@@forevercomputing Unfortunately a hell of a lot of aftermarket head units are the same. The full screens are worse, they all have all of the buttons on the left side, meaning you have to reach over to the passenger side just to turn them on.

I get it from a manufacturing perspective; If you're going to make something and then ship it all around the world it's far more logical to appeal to the greater market. We just have to deal with it. Nice one James, I have been looking for a double din for the vectra. Looks like I will be picking one of these up, not that bothered about lag, I have selected playlists I prefer to just let play, so this will be cheap, cheerful and all I need. Much appreciated bud 👍👍👍
That lag on the touchscreen would drive me insane if I wasn't already borderline! I'd rather spend a little extra and purchase a name brand with a harness. Better in the long run.
I spilt some tea on a telephone answering machine years ago, all I did to get it fully working again was carefully brush the circuit board with a tooth brush.

James when I first started modding cars back in 1983 I could ONLY dream of such things, back in my day no central locking, air bags, GPS/satnav, power steering or even electric power windows (unless you were rich enough to own a Mercedes ) so a radio that can do all that is unbelievable! OMG you even had to put a metal key into a lock and turn it, get in then open the passenger side and you had this weird handle that made the glass window roll down, how times have changed for the better ;) I totally love new technology. Keep the videos coming mate us old fogeys love em.

The video off the SD card was laggy, mostlikely because the data rate from the SD card is just slow. The more generic ones aren't actually designed for direct video playback. USB is much faster and hence works better.
Made it look simple but great functionality for price - these Astras had a pretty good standard Blaupunkt system from new I think that linked well with display screen that was good tech in its day pre Bluetooth

Those RCA symbols on the screen i think are for other types of cameras and external devices and you might be able to adjust the touch screen through the stereo settings.
I've just ordered a seicane android headunit for my Suzuki sx4, it's a direct factory replacement so should just be a case of pop out the factory head unit and pop the new one in😁
Its tat mate back in the days I brought a halfords dv720, it failed.. then another one.. screen mechanism got stuck. Upgraded to a dv740 and the touch screen stopped working. Cheap electronics like this become a pain. Like ebay reverse cameras that fill with water. Always go with good gear.
James I suspect the display uses resistive touch technology as opposed to capacitive touch technology, with resistive touch you need to press a little bit harder to get the touches to register.
bought a few of these over the years and only comments are, use iso wiring adaptors for installing, its tidier and easier to reverse fit, and if using a reversing camera on a hatchback, its better to use a cheap transmitter / receiver, than run cable all around hatch and through car. also i have fitted a camera to a car previously on live power , and the receiver in my home, so can keep an eye on car from house....the models with a steering wheel remotee generally are a problem as they are intended for right of wheel, so fit upside down on left, or dont work reliably on right due to metal obstructions......the units generally last a year or two before electronics start to degrade...

If i remember correctly, you should switch the ignition positive and the constant positive in this type of astra (red and yellow wire) Did you check if the new radio forgot the settings after turning of the ignition?
Not bad at all for the money. Probably struggled on the video playback from the SD as the file was too much for it to handle but what can you expect. Great to see the Astra featured 👍
Don't get the hate for the flip up screen I personally like them. With it being a old car options are limited with what he could use I think it looks smart brings the audio up to date.
Did you -- check whether the connector going into the back of the old unit.... was the same as the new one? Well, at least you made the connections much better! :D
It's okay, slow on the response, the power output is low, and it could use more rca outputs for rear and subs, but all in all it's okay for what it cost.
The stutter/slowness of the SD Card will probably be the SDCard speed rating, you need a Class 10 for HD Video files IIRC and there's a lot of cheap fakes that are stamped Class 10 (eBay Specials) that aren't.

Had one of these from china and it was decent. Only downside was for some reason only the front speakers worked when installed. Try giving the screen a clean with some glass cleaner. Might help with responsivness of touch screen

@@EKspeed Bluetooth, works great, my phone auto connects so when I use the phone GPS it comes out of the speakers, music quality is excellent, I use an sd card. just no good for phone calls, you can hear them but they cant hear you (no external mic socket) reversing camera works perfectly
To make it easier for yourself in the future all wiring colors are the same for every stereo. You could of just cut the harness off the old stereo and connected color to color

It's highly likely that it's unable to play 60fps - if it's only capable of playing 30fps (TV and broadcast standard FPS rate) then the video will be at 50% playback speed. The audio is likely only designed for playback of 44.1kHz 16bit (standard CD quality) or 48kHz 24bit but would be unaffected by this as you were experiencing as this is processed and encoded separately
Wired it up as you had done and nothing!! I have basic sony stereo and it works i had the same three wires left keys. Key 1, key 2, and the back for the camera. No lights came on it was blank. Any ideas?

Iv a problem and I need help......wen I go to pull away the revs drop(wen I let the clutch out) and the only way I can pull away without jumping forward is to let the clutch out slowly till it's completely out then I can accelerate without jumping forward or revving loads....James help me plz lol
James I think you can wire the reverse camera into your reverse light, so everytime you put it in reverse the camera comes on. It worked with the one I had on the ford focus.

Actually, it is better suited in a LHD car. If you look deep enough, you will see that for the UK use, it's not ideal.

Bullet connectors work well so when it's breaks you can just unplug them, saves cutting the wires.

The other plug isn’t for steering wheel controls, the other plug send the radio information to the MFD panel above the heaters

Technology is changing so fast that there appear to be better devices out already. It appears to becoming a biannual ritual to upgrade.
You should never ever cut the factory wiring. Do it the right way and buy the correct adapter for your vehicle that plugs into the factory harness

I've had this for a year now, the sat nav and phone Bluetooth is unusable, ,but music sound quality, rev camera is good.

19:35 Thats a normal problem, when the resolution is too high for the playback device. Try it out with 720p, 480p or 360p
It's a bit unresponsive as it uses a resistive touchscreen (have to click harder to choose something)

James I think you can wire the reverse camera into your reverse light, so everytime you put it in reverse the camera comes on.
It worked with the one I had on the ford focus.

I never used factory speakers I disconnected the harness and speaker wires and ran new and updated speakers
that wiring looks like it should just plug in the back of the new unit.
The stock plug would've fit into the old stereo.
