This was one of the most influential games of all time because afterwards, pass interference began to be enforced to an extra degree by the officials starting in 2004. Football as we knew it was about to change forever, slowly but surely.
I can’t help but wonder if the AFC CG was Chiefs/Patriots do we still get the pass interference extra enforcement considering KC was less reliant on passing game
@@redpillfreedom6692He still probably has a darn good career. But you have to wonder how many touchdowns and yards Peyton Manning and other quarterbacks after him would throw for if the rules stayed the way they were in the early 2000’s.
This is the game that sent Ty Law to the Hall of Fame. Yes he got a pick six in the Super Bowl 2 years prior, but getting 3 interceptions in the AFC championship game and playing in your 3rd Super Bowl gets you noticed by the Hall of Fame voters when you retire. For the Patriots, they won even though it was ugly on offense they still found a way to win.
I had totally forgotten that this game was as close as it was! I guess I had lumped it in with the 04 playoff game between these two, and I thought both were more of the blowout variety.
Would the Chiefs have matched up better with the Patriots? If anything, I can guarantee that Trent Green would NOT have thrown 4 interceptions. Plus, they were a cold weather outdoor team built around an O-Line and a running back that was more built for these conditions
Which is remarkable considering he went from 0 playoff wins to 2 in one month. You’d think these 2 playoff wins would buy him some time reputation wise, but apparently not
I sort of think Manning got a bit of a pass for this one if memory serves. The Pats were undefeated at home in the cold in January, had an elite defense, and were on a 13 game winning streak. Manning emerged as a great QB in 03, but he wasn’t truly elite until 04 imo. When he came back to Foxboro again the next January, expectations were a lot higher and the consequences were more severe, even though that Pats team was much better than this Pats team.

@@chrisuncleahmad No it would have happened the next season instead
Not coincidentally, Peyton would have a career year in 2004.

Honestly, both Brady and Manning didn't play particularly well. New England just had a better defense.
I mean I’m all for letting them play but that shit with Pollard was ridiculous
Everyone talks about Ty Law, but that stuff from Pollard was IMO the reason they made the change
Amazing to think that as poorly as Peyton played, they were only down 7 with under 2 minutes to go

First Manning and Brady Playoff game. Both of them struggled (one a lot more than the other), but in the end, TB-12 is off to his 2nd Super Bowl.
with the hidden cams and deflated footballs
@@hmhm856 Never proven
Peyton fought the Law….. and the Law won
The pats offensive line lost Damien woody and subbed russ hocjstein and the running game was arguably better then it was all year.

Yes. I swear if The Chiefs go to New England they win
BRADY WOULD OF THREW FOR 350 AND 4 TDS. CHIEFS DEFENSE WAS TOO TRASH TO MAKE A RUN
@@riqosteel Brady in 03 was basically Kyle Boller
Plus the Chiefs defense could at least get a stop or two against the Patriots offense
I think this game established the reputation of Peyton Manning as a “playoff choker”.

He did lose 0-41 to the NY Jets during the prior postseason!
Tom Brady in his early days was a game manager.
He would take the next step in the Super Bowl.
I didn’t realize how mediocre Brady was in his early days. New England’s defense bailed him out WAAAAY too much.
greatest system QB of all time
Whoever was the Pats backup QB could have also won this game with the defense and that weather
You may all want to skip t he next game.
When did people start considering Brady as an elite QB anyway (as in a QB who can statistically keep up with the best of em)? 2005? 2007?
@@hmhm856 Yes a “System Quarterback” that threw 40 Touchdowns and has a Super Bowl MVP on 2 different Teams clown
Hard to believe THIS Patriots team is in the super bowl.
I guess it’s better to be lucky than good
Patriots now make it 14 straight
12 of them seemingly by the skin of their teeth.
This winning streak is starting to get ridiculous
12-4 Titans/Colts went 0-4 against the Patriots. Belichick and Brady were just too much.
03 was more Belichick than Brady
Brady in 03 was basically Kyle Boller
That’s ignorant considering how inaccurate Kyle “I should have been a” Baller was.
Due too turnovers turnovers on down and a safety hunter smith ended up with only one punt all postseason
Hunter “The Punter” Smith.
He actually had as many postseason punts as regular season touchdowns scored
Ugly game for Manning.
Yup.
There were lots of uncalled defensive holding and pass interferences.
Im sure Peyton agrees with me that cold weather football is a bit overrated
