Looks like I can TAS anything now (it was previously impossible to TAS Sonic games that used motion controls aside from Black Knight), which means I am starting making Sonic and the Secret Rings Dolphin videos - captured in 4K 60 fps!
The first one is Evil Foundry. I thought Sonic's speed was way too fast for the viewer to enjoy watching the run and appreciating the way the level looks to the fullest and I also found the wind power up effect very annoying, so the next video (which has been captured already, it just needs to be edited in Vegas) won't have any of that. Sonic will still be fast, just not this insanely fast.
I would LOVE to capture Pirate Storm but that damn catapult...I'm playing with using the keyboard, so if anyone can record a TAS run and send the files to me, I can capture the video itself. I will send you the emulator which I'm using so you could do that. Alternatively, you could help me configure the game with the keyboard controls in mind, so I could run past the part with the catapult.

If this wasn't a TAS, I would probably do something bad out of frustration. Not sure about the real console, but playing this on keyboard is friggin' impossible unless it's a TAS video. But...yeah, my point was to make a nice looking run showcasing the graphics and stuff. Mission accomplished.
Well the game still looks great even though it was released in 2007.
I would go as far as to say those old games look better than some newer titles which use the poorly detailed minimalistic and overly cartoony art direction.
Yeah, I still think Sonic Unleashed (360/PS3) and Sonic Colors are the best looking sonic games to date.
Unleashed ? Yes, absolutely.
Colors ? Pfff Passable, but far from the best looking, since it's looks all blocky and polygonal.
This game is the definition that first playthroughs means everything. The game is decent when you upgrade Sonic.
I'm so used to hearing this song as Cobi's theme, that it sounds extremely out of place for this game.

I'm not a fan of the gameplay of this game, but the soundtrack, visuals (Especially for a Wii Game) and story are top notch. And it looks fantastic at 60fps.

Monkey D. "Straw Hat" Luffy Agreed. It's basically a prototype Boost game. I do enjoy it though, equipped with Skills. My favorite stage would be probably Skeleton Dome. And I love the soundtrack too !
This is also where Griffith and the rest of the 4Kids cast got better. It's baffling also how the story is so much better handled here than the anniversary game, plus Sonic gets some really good lines in this game.
P.s. : Have you guys noticed how the OC choices for Farces are basically Secret Rings' Skills ?

Pretty much. It's basically every Skill System we've had in Sonic Games thus far. Which easily could have been applied to Modern Sonic and his friends all being playable.

Some of the best level design in Sonic history. Everyone hates it because of motion controls and the total inability to go back. Decisions like this are why this series is so universally panned. They never use the good game design principles from the games everyone hates, so they have now run out of ideas entirely.

supersmily 5 so true. There is nothing wrong with the hallway concept as long as it is challenging. This being the base foundation for boost games, I personally think it did it better than any boost game that came afterwards besides unleashed coming close. No other boost game has obstacles that are actually threatening. You can boost through everything now.

Arin & Danny: WHOA, OH MY GOD! CHILL THE FUCK OUT, SONIC!
I realized something. Although the controls take some getting used to, Secret Rings is not rushed or low quality. The cutscenes and backgrounds look stunning, the level design and soundtrack are top notch, the bosses are creative and exhilarating, and so on. Obviously, Sonic Team was at a disadvantage with the motion controls, considering the Wii was pretty new at the time, and they obviously didn't have the same knowledge of the console that Nintendo did, but it was still commendable that they chose to be bold. That's what this era of Sonic represents to me: Boldness and wacky ideas. Somewhat explains why Unleashed is the only Sonic game I prefer over this one.
Meanwhile it'd take me ten years just to get past one obstacle 😂

If I remember correctly I have 60-70 hours in my save file and I'm at lev. 96-98 atm which means that I have the vast majority of equippable skills unlocked, but I NEVER equipped the last(fastest) versions of either the "speed" or "handling" skills simply because the gameplay becomes so fucking fast and the tilting so fucking precise that I just can't react to it properly let alone have fun while playing it.
Thankfully they are not essential for a Gold medal, also to be honest, I'm quite pleased with the solution that ST found for this game as dying doesn't take away the chance of getting the Gold medal. It was quite a pleasant surprise to have after suffering an awkward death (either in this stage or Night Palace) that I got a Gold medal regardless of my one death and my gathered XP wasn't lost either. :D
One of the many reasons why I tend to prefer this game over Black Knight.
P.S.: Night Palace. I need it now.
I will definitely do Night Palace if it doesn't have that catapult or I will need a TAS file from somebody else who completes the level, so I could record it.
Night Palace doesn't have any catapults in it, mahman.
Skeleton Dome does have one, but it's on an optional (shortcut) path which can be ignored if necessary.
Then ignored it shall be like the Dinosaur jungle catapults.
Since the catapult as a gimmick is introduced at the Dino level which is the second overall level, there definitely isn't any catapult at the first level either methinks.
As of Skeleton Dome: right after finishing the first longer area which is one long narrow path filled with skeletons you're entering a more open area where you can use a spring to reach an alternate route. That's where the catapult is as far as I can remember though on second thought I'm not sure. Skeleton Done might not have any catapults at all.
Howewer I'm 1000% sure that Night Palace doesn't have ANY catapults period. It's my favorite and therefore my most played level in this game, so that's the one I know the most. :D
I see. I still hope someone can record a TAS file for Pirate Storm though. Arguably the best stage in the entire game, beaten only by Night Palace itself.

It's probably irrelevant now, but you can tap the brake button to cancel out of a slide/charge jump. It's a lot faster than jumping out of it like you had to at 0:10
I can't wait to see an HD 60 FPS Levitated Ruin! That stage is hands-down the fastest stage in the game when you're fully leveled up.

You can easily find the codes if you google them. Only 60 fps gecko codes exist. Any latest version of Dolphin would do.

What skill is generating the whirlwind around Sonic?
If I recall right, it's the wind type skill at the very bottom of the skill list. Something like "This skill activates if you have 8 (or 10) wind skills equipped".

No you are right the skill is Called the Crest of Wind, when equipped with 10 wind basic skills crest of wind activates, this increases Sonic's acceleration and Maximum Speed at the cost of 1 ring per second.

I dont know about you guys but I like whenever you go into the game right and sonic just blast off, and mean it, there was this one day my brother unlocked every skill(I was to young to know how to do it)and he must've did something because even he had no idea why the game makes you go that fast enough to fly of the map(a few zones we will not discuss)

Well La Wella Depends on the game. SA1, SA2, Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Riders, and Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity all use the ADX format, which there are converters for. Then he simply has to rebuild the ISO.

I really like this game. First game for the Wii, so they were forced to use motion controls and honestly, they're not that bad, especially after a while. Great story too. Obviously better than 06 by default, but this game is probably - from 1998 to 2007 - the second best Sonic game after Adventure. That shows how much I hate the others I guess

You know I remember when my brother first fought the ifirit of he played the game without me there so I didn't even know why it was trying to kill em but what he told me was that it was cause he had no legs, I felt so bad for him that was until I was old enough to actually get the hang of those freaking Wii controllers god they suck

Playable is the key word. Enjoyable? That a better question. And there is a certain catapult in the game. I'm not sure if it is possible to use it when playing on keyboard. The level Pirate storm is the best example since it is impossible to progress unless you pass that section with the catapult.
