I'm sad you didn't enjoy Northanger Abbey, I do agree Catherine is empty-headed! 😆I found the satirical elements really enjoyable personally but I totally understand your perspective!!
I'm not the biggest Austen fan to begin with, yes I know that alone is heresy these days. 😁 Haley's guide/devotional/reflection book redeemed Catherine somewhat but failed to make me like her as a character. Oh well, maybe the next Austen will win me over. 🤞😆
Oh my gosh, Northanger Abbey is by far my least favorite Austen. Looks like I'm in good company! 😆 So glad you're enjoying Dante and I hope your read of Dracula goes well - it's perfect for Victober! (My Penguin edition is 402 pages, 454 including the Appendices and Notes) 📚
I don't think you would like the books Catherine reads in Northanger Abbey because her character is spoofing the heroines in those books by exaggerating all the qualities that you mentioned: their vapidity, helplessness, ridiculous assumptions, overwrought imaginations, etc. Honestly i feel like it's a bit of a spoof on teenage girls in general. 😂😂 I'm going to pick up Cymbeline myself here in a day or two. I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on it.
Thanks! I had a suspicion that it was a good representation of the novels she referenced. My intellectual curiosity has been peaked, in large part because I had never heard of them. If they live up to your description, and Jane's, I won't hesitate to DNF. Cymbeline discussion is coming today. I am looking forward to your take on the play too. 🙂

@Lu.G. Relieved to know I'm not alone in disliking Northanger! Thank you for bringing up then 100 Days!
So sad you didn't like Northanger! It's not my favorite Austen, but I do still love it (because I love Austen).
Aww don't be sad, we all cannot like the same authors. 😅
