As if constantly criticising cars for not being "fun" to drive wasn't enough, now you're saying that they lack "personality"... These nonquantitative terms are way too subjective to be useful. How exactly do you measure fun or personality in a car? One person's 'fun' might be another person's 'difficult handling'. One person's 'personality' might be another person's 'terrible design'.
I was going to get me a 308, but I ended up ordering me a 2018 Mégane Bose Edition :) The 308 would have costed me thousands more, and when I got in one in real life, it felt quite small actually. (I'm 186cm tall) The Mégane, however, felt right :) And I have the automatic version with EDC (Dual-clutch transmission), a feature that isn't available on the Peugeot!
I have a FWD, the AWD is only when you have the sports-versions. I have the 1.2l engine with 132hp (turbo-charged) :) Let me tell you that I was surprised that such a small engine can go that fast :) Of all the cars I owned, this one has the smallest engine, but it's the fastest I owned :p
@@o0L4nc3r0o Sick man i thought the AWD is for the only sports versions too and yeah when the car is turbocharged it will probbably be fast.Sick car man!
I am very impressed by your reviews. Very professional, sympathy, and very nice shots. My only problem is that the wheel is on the right side in the most of the reviews. But that's not your fault :D Great channel!
german citroen dealer told me the creme brulee shifter is intentional .... they call it the french microwaved baquette at their dealership ...of course not openly to the customers but ...still ...
Most technology advantaged: The renault Megane because of that little tablet. I drive Renault for years. Got a Kadjar right now. Why it is not a Megane Estate or a Talisman is because of the interior. It looks like a tablet on a funeral. I must say that most car-companies are so many years behind interior-tech-wise.
when you swhotched from driving cactus and peugeot to renault, noise just suddenly dropped massively. Is it because of your microphone or there is so much less noise in renault?
We have P308 as a company car. It's nice to drive, pleasing interior, but infotainment is - slow in reaction. The only reason why I quitted the Peugeot (and Citroen C4 Picasso) is slow reacting infotainment. My opinion is, that infotainment is becoming almost a game changer - I realy need fast, responsive and intuitive infotainment system. Renault..so far is my favourite, by infotainment surrounding plastics design..whell, it needs some polishing. But overall, a big plus. I'm saying this as former Megane owner (1999) which was owfull, and owner of two Lagunas. Thumb up for Renault.
Nearest dealer is a Renault and they do have an F1 pedigree. If I got a Renault it would definitely be the Estate/wagon (Australia). Like the driving position of the Citroen, panel insets. Always had manuals. Got a 307 Estate at present- manual. Heavy but versatile.
CarWow, nicely done! Seriously, every single car website does is car review. It's damnn bloody boring... You've successfully made it totally different and make yourself stand out from the pack! Keep it up! I really like it, i'm sure many others are feeling the same too!
today i sell opel/vauxhall cars, but before i sold peugeots. No french car stands a chance against peugeot right now. The 308 is the best in the class if you ask me (not i pracicallaty though). The small steering wheel makes it fun and sporty to drive, and makes the car so much more personal then the other 2. I'ts freaking sexy to look at, and the sound it makes when you use the blinkers is awsome ;). No but all in all its a fun, sporty and personal car. i love it.... i wont start talk about the new peugeot 3008... its fucking amazing.
yes, but Peugeot has got the same parts from the Citroen and they are the both fench! Renault works by himself (i know then the motors of the Nissan are the same, but still better, because Renault helped Nissan in the 00´s).
And both my Peugeot's have always taken me home on limp home mode if something goes wrong, not exactly what I can say about other manufacturers I see along side the road 🤣
Peugeot 308 starting at just under £15k seems absolute bonkers considering that a Peugeot 308 nowadays starts at £28k......it almost doubled in starting price in around 7 years.....
You really can't take his reviews seriously, one review he is praising the cactus as brilliant, with plenty of room for 3 in the rear, and now he is saying that it's a bit cramped in the rear ? I drove all 3 cars, city and motorways, short and long journeys, and the cactus was way ahead, economy, comfort, space, plus a fun car, that looks so different from the same old moulded copy's of each other
I believe it's the first time I hear that! More for their economical aspect or for what they are overall? I believe at one point some French cars were sold in the USA but maybe you could import one!
if you look in most of French cars reviews in this channel most of the time someone says this, also they used to sell but lack of dealerships, different type of engines working made them be bad cars to maintain, also Citroen was banned because of the hydro pneumatic suspension, because "it was not be invented yet" and US made some law that the bumper need to be always at same height. Also they had weak engines and lack of AWD in most models this in the Citroen and Peugeot, Renault failed so hard whit first model "LeCar" which was just a Renault 5, it rusted away super fast and once again parts were hard to find and most mechanics didn't know how to work one them...
3DAM you may be mistaken, Trump is not against outside brands and products as long as they are made in US or pay proper tax, also if I am not mistaken they Sell Scooters in US...
So the black bubble wrap to supposed to protect against dings. But from my experience plastic is really nasty looking when scratched, and probaly just as expesive to get fixed. also it looks revolting.
New Megan looks lovely, and is to be honest the only one I would drive out of the three, citeron looks ridiculous. What are those stupid looking door panels?? However really love the way the Peugeot looks.
I really like the 308 outside, I just can't stand the small "joystick" steering wheel and the cockpit inside. The new c4 cactus with a bit less aggressive air bumps is much better in my opinion. The new Megane is better and upgraded in every way. I'd like to see how it compares to focus and astra in terms of driveability, comfort and the quality of materials inside.
there are many better choices than those three...I am very concerned about all this i pad style systems...they can become really dangerous as drivers have to take their eyes off the road- I prefer old style functional buttons.
Thank you. No one seems to compare those 2 head to head. I've had a long test drive with the Cactus (110 petrol) but the Vitara seems more practical and fun all while staying under 4.20 meters long. I just want to avoid having excessive loads of wind noise at 150 kph (Germany). Is the Vitara more quiet inside than the average current B segment car (i20, 208, Corsa) or worse due to it's blunt shape?
i live in South Africa a very image orientated place and we used to hate French cars until the last couple of models offered by Renault which has propelled them into the top 10 vehicle sales time and time again , i live close to the Toyota plant but their offerings are stale , the Germans just charge over the top for example a fully specced VW Polo costs over a R100 000 more than an equivalent clio which in pounds in like 5 grand
I’m sorry but how does that work. You say that the two psa cars have better engines and feel better overall, but yet choose the reanult?? Why is it so hard for a presenter to say that psa have actually made a good car!!!
Interesting. It's a shame the C4 Cactus isn't cheaper, since it is based on their B segment platform instead of the platform for C segment cars, and it does feel significantly cheaper than its peers. Love how quirky it is, and despite the one I have driven only having the small 1.2 liter petrol, it feels decent. The engine has enough punch thanks to the low weight of the car, and the power delivery feels much like a diesel. So does the sound though. Around town it should be a great car, with all these bumpers, the zippy, frugal engine etc. I've sat in the 308 and couldn't find a nice driving position (maybe didn't try hard enough, and I didn't drive it), otherwise it feels nice. However I have driven the 208, and it felt great. Perhaps even more grown up than the C4 Cactus, and it quickly became one of my favorite (affordable cars). I think it had the same 100 or 120 hp diesel... powerful enough for the Autobahn, the ride is comfortable enough yet the steering feels very connected to the wheel, and very fast too. Together with that small steering wheel, which is awesome (it works on the 208, but not for everyone, just like with the 308), it is a very fun car to drive. Much more so than the competent but boring Polo or the completely out of its breath on the Autobahn Corsa (what a terrible car). Sadly the infotainment system on the C4 Cactus, 208 and 308 is not good. It's slow, not really responsive, the layout isn't that good, it misses quick access buttons and dials. The Megane does feel nice to sit in, however a Seat Leon feels even nicer and better laid out, and the Golf... there's a reason why the Golf is leading the segment. It's a great place to be in, and IMHO with the Mk7 the interior is quite attractive. I ended up buying one of those... mainly due to the safety gadgets that have already come in very handy and simply work. Shame about long term quality though, after 3 years the car is rattling around more than my 14 year old Citroen Xsara. Anyway, back to the Megane... I think my main issue is with the infotainment system. Something about the way they have integrated it, and especially about the software design, the animations and the lack of speed. If you're relying solely on the screen (which I don't think is a good idea!) then it needs to be fast. We're used to fast interfaces from our smartphones, so having to wait half a second for an animation to load, and then another half a second for it to complete? Not a good thing. The infotainment system in my Golf has buttons to get around it (which is great), and while it can be sluggish at times, it is faster and more reactive in the end because it doesn't have stupid (and ugly) animations to transition between screens. It's not afraid of switching screens and then building them up only, one by one. It's also very well laid out.
kada jawi in part because auto makers don't use the lasted of the hardware, they need proven solutions that have proven reliability, also a car takes 4 years to be developed, what sometimes is high tech in the start of the project is outdate by the time is finished. also you change your smartphone yearly most of the time, the 308 came out in late 2014, its a 2 year old car, I recall the reviews at the time saying was one of the most responsive touch screens on the market, better than premium brands...
Fair enough. But I've driven the 2016 Corsa, and within a few hours spotted a couple of bugs, including one where the system would crash so hard there was no way to change volume (radio kept playing...), turn it off or restart. Not even turning off the car or holding the power button for a minute worked. Also, there are plenty of bugs on the Discover Pro in my Golf, and each update is a gamble... one version has a certain set of bugs, the update has another set of different bugs, ... it's not exactly rock solid either. Considering that you pay a lot for these systems, and even more for the car, having beefy hardware surely isn't too much to ask for?
kada jawi to my knowledge the only car that really have software bug fixes and improvements is Tesla Model S and X, the other if you are lucky by the time of next service the dealer will have a update and will do it, assuming will not ask extra money for it. other thing to have in account is most of the time the technology used is different, it may appear that the touch screen in a car is the same than a phone but not, the 308 is one of the car that has a resistive touch screen when most of phones specially new ones is capacitive, first one is less precise but works whit gloves or any type of object, the second car detect more than one touch but whit gloves most of the time don't work, also a car system needs to be able to sustain temperatures drops to -20º or -30º C and then spikes to 60º C, it may not appear but that costs tonnes of money, they do make beefy systems but in areas you don't see it or notice when the system works like it should. I read articles about IPhone entry in "creep" mode in very hot days and not being able to be used until it cooled, imagine if that would happen to a car...
Could you do a review on the Toyota C-HR vs the Kia Niro? I can't really decide between them and there are not yet any reviews (as far as I can find it)
The 1,2 petrols in Peugeot and Citroen have timing belts running inside the engine and when the belts starts to loose rubber then it can clog the oil passages. A very bad design. The Renault 1,2 petrol is timing chain and reguires very little service/checks and is superior in my view.
Yeah, that was a stupid comment from Matt. I lift the hat for the french people, they are not afraid and are united againts the ghost of capitalism that has to be avoided at all cost!

How exactly do you measure fun or personality in a car? One person's 'fun' might be another person's 'difficult handling'. One person's 'personality' might be another person's 'terrible design'.
why do you watch reviews? just look at the spec sheet.
Definitely the 308 , so far so good
I'd go with a Peugeot.
I was going to get me a 308, but I ended up ordering me a 2018 Mégane Bose Edition :)
The 308 would have costed me thousands more, and when I got in one in real life, it felt quite small actually. (I'm 186cm tall)
The Mégane, however, felt right :)
And I have the automatic version with EDC (Dual-clutch transmission), a feature that isn't available on the Peugeot!
SA13 j
@@o0L4nc3r0o Yeah the Megane's are way faster than the 308's i belive so!
Btw is yours AWD FWD ?
I have a FWD, the AWD is only when you have the sports-versions.
I have the 1.2l engine with 132hp (turbo-charged) :)
Let me tell you that I was surprised that such a small engine can go that fast :)
Of all the cars I owned, this one has the smallest engine, but it's the fastest I owned :p
Not very nice punching the cactus Matt.
I think it needs an apology
Jack Mayall If you were to punch a Cactus I think that you would come out of it worse than the Cactus. The spikes would puncture your skin!
Philip Scott I'm talking about the car 😂😂
Jack Mayall Jk.
Philip Scott oh.. 😂😂
Megane look's the best.. Citroen is the most original.. Peugeot design is ok but to much detail's from ugly and boooring golf..lol
how is golf ugly boring yes but not ugly tbh i don't think there is such thing as a ugly, boring car
german citroen dealer told me the creme brulee shifter is intentional .... they call it the french microwaved baquette at their dealership ...of course not openly to the customers but ...still ...
uncertainty principle There's no problem with the shifter! Matt is fooling around!
I am 180cm and I didn't have any problem with dashboard in 308 :-), it is stylish great cocpit with good steering wheel :-)
Ive got the New Megane, nice comf drive.
Probably even in this comparison the A-Class still wouldn't of won!
The A class wouldn't win anywhere, except for in the looks department.
well the engine is the same of the megane...
A45 would win in 0-60 everywhere
Supcharged lol about 40k for a hot hatch, and it's still an A-Class too
Joshua L the same can be said about any performance variant of almost any car
Most technology advantaged: The renault Megane because of that little tablet. I drive Renault for years. Got a Kadjar right now. Why it is not a Megane Estate or a Talisman is because of the interior. It looks like a tablet on a funeral. I must say that most car-companies are so many years behind interior-tech-wise.
Megane is the best
when you swhotched from driving cactus and peugeot to renault, noise just suddenly dropped massively. Is it because of your microphone or there is so much less noise in renault?
+94mikyyy yes. We had the sensitivity of the mic on a different setting as there was Interference in the cactus.
Yeah, you have to drive them yourself to be able to tell which is the most quiet for you...
French cars is amazing
Peugeots are crap though. Not suitable in asian countries.
They may look nice, but the Renault is made out of plastic.
stop say that you hate citroen and love peugeot its made in same factory if you did'nt know
Nearest dealer is a Renault and they do have an F1 pedigree. If I got a Renault it would definitely be the Estate/wagon (Australia). Like the driving position of the Citroen, panel insets. Always had manuals. Got a 307 Estate at present- manual. Heavy but versatile.
Nice mat, now do the german version plz ^^!!
Medamine Majid no
I'd have the Megane definitely
Matt should be the next Top Gear presenter
CarWow, nicely done! Seriously, every single car website does is car review. It's damnn bloody boring...
You've successfully made it totally different and make yourself stand out from the pack!
Keep it up! I really like it, i'm sure many others are feeling the same too!
Cheers Felix!
today i sell opel/vauxhall cars, but before i sold peugeots.
Why not compare the normal c4
alukardFE The normal C4 is so old
I'm sorry, you were not so neutral this time the Peugeot 308 has more quality than the Renault Megane and everybody knows that !
yes, but Peugeot has got the same parts from the Citroen and they are the both fench! Renault works by himself (i know then the motors of the Nissan are the same, but still better, because Renault helped Nissan in the 00´s).
Pedro Monteiro “ They are both fench” Fench?! Er, I think I know who you mean.
Harold Shand to be fair you would be more stupid for not being able to guess the missing letter than actually missing typing the letter....
Peugeot have 100% to last 5 years longer than the others... (family experience) Peugeot is fucking unbreakable
And both my Peugeot's have always taken me home on limp home mode if something goes wrong, not exactly what I can say about other manufacturers I see along side the road 🤣
Peurgeot looks the coolest
Peugeot 308 starting at just under £15k seems absolute bonkers considering that a Peugeot 308 nowadays starts at £28k......it almost doubled in starting price in around 7 years.....
You really can't take his reviews seriously, one review he is praising the cactus as brilliant, with plenty of room for 3 in the rear, and now he is saying that it's a bit cramped in the rear ? I drove all 3 cars, city and motorways, short and long journeys, and the cactus was way ahead, economy, comfort, space, plus a fun car, that looks so different from the same old moulded copy's of each other
Love the Megane. It's the best looking car in it's class by a long way.
Megane.
Can you do a review of the Volkswagen Passat? I'm looking to buy one
wish they would sell , these brands in the States
If the gas price shoots up like in EU then they will sell.
And with Mr Trump on board there aren't many chances that it happens :)
A Mégane GT will do, the 4Control is the sweetest thing !
Peugeot all the way.
Megane👍👍
Is the Megane all that quiet while driving? I was a hell of a difference when he switched from the 308 to the Megane.
Yeah I thought that seemed much quieter
Peugeot, please.
there are many better choices than those three...I am very concerned about all this i pad style systems...they can become really dangerous as drivers have to take their eyes off the road- I prefer old style functional buttons.
I would take the citren c4
Citroen is the best France car best suspension technology perfect driving performance, Peugeot is fastest but Renault is more
C4 cactus vs Vitara. Which is the more fun and more quiet at speed?
Vitara is more fun and sporty, C4 is more quiet and comfy.
Which one is the best C4/c4cactus/ds4/ Dacia duster?
MATT - Stop referring to Apple products, its a tablet !!
When was this filmed? Looks like early September
Is it the camera placement, or the megane is the most quiet inside?
megane looks really good car
It would be great if there is a table of all the figures compared at the end.
Peugeot 👍🏾
Wouldn't it have been more appropriate to compare the C4 instead of the Cactus? The Cactus is more crossover than hatchback.
i live in South Africa a very image orientated place and we used to hate French cars until the last couple of models offered by Renault which has propelled them into the top 10 vehicle sales time and time again , i live close to the Toyota plant but their offerings are stale , the Germans just charge over the top for example a fully specced VW Polo costs over a R100 000 more than an equivalent clio which in pounds in like 5 grand
I’m sorry but how does that work. You say that the two psa cars have better engines and feel better overall, but yet choose the reanult?? Why is it so hard for a presenter to say that psa have actually made a good car!!!
I have a cactus and my parents say that the engine is small on it like they notice when they over take but I recommend it
Hey Mat Renault Samsung also takes part in making cars so mabye thats why u said Megane felt like a Korean car.
Who would choose a Renault over a Peugeot ? ... Non-drivers.
Peugeot are overpriced and overrated
It's also very well laid out.
i believe that the new 3008 has a revised CB, whit faster computer, the 308 and other cars probably will receive it after refresh...
I hope so. Does anyone know why these car systems feel so terribly outdated and slow, when smartphones and tablets are much faster?
kada jawi in part because auto makers don't use the lasted of the hardware, they need proven solutions that have proven reliability, also a car takes 4 years to be developed, what sometimes is high tech in the start of the project is outdate by the time is finished.
also you change your smartphone yearly most of the time, the 308 came out in late 2014, its a 2 year old car, I recall the reviews at the time saying was one of the most responsive touch screens on the market, better than premium brands...
Couldn't find your micra review. Delete it?
F Talib It's so tiny, you have to search really hard. ;)
They've uploaded it twice and deleted it twice already.
Could you do a review on the Toyota C-HR vs the Kia Niro? I can't really decide between them and there are not yet any reviews (as far as I can find it)
Mat where is the Nissan micra review ?
Megane is best in this class.Better than Golf.
But underneath, C4 Cactus is actually a C3. So it's not the rival for those two.
The 1,2 petrols in Peugeot and Citroen have timing belts running inside the engine and when the belts starts to loose rubber then it can clog the oil passages. A very bad design. The Renault 1,2 petrol is timing chain and reguires very little service/checks and is superior in my view.
Did anyone else notice the dodgy panel gaps at the front of the Citroen between the bonnet and bumper?? @5.27
Why compare a normal sized hatchback with a crossover? Makes no sense to me.
I’d go for the Renault.
Am I the only who caught a mistake in thumbnail?
Hope this video doesn't get taken down due to the comment about French people being on strike...
Yeah, that was a stupid comment from Matt. I lift the hat for the french people, they are not afraid and are united againts the ghost of capitalism that has to be avoided at all cost!
since the new "normal" c4 isn't available...why not get a ds4? would still make more sence i guess...
Expensive.
