Excuses, excuses, too many excuses... they knew this when they decided to announce it much too early... so early that their other HMDs linger in the wallowing shadow of the 12K QLED still.
@@paulct91 I agree, when they announced it in 2021 (!) we had what, the Nvidia 3000 series? Everyone questioned HOW they were going to be able to push that many pixels and the answer was always their proprietary bandwidth compression / transport technologies (I forget the names). It's clear the 12K is more likely a 2026 launch at this point. They will need a significant number of users with a 5000 series graphics card. I knew it. I've known it.
@paulct91 the 4090 can't handle the 12k... that's legit the reason why they didn't drop it nothing can handle something like this but... the 5090 having vram increase and bit bus increase it it's a card that finally can handle it . I have rarely seen a company communicate this clearly and honestly, this was perfect. I currently have money saved up for a VR upgrade and will be waiting to see how the Crystal Super comes along, keep it up Pimax, you guys are great.
No way, they straight up lied about the 12K in this video. First, DP 1.4 has DSC (which Pimax regularly uses) and this can push up to 240 Hz at 4K with 10-bit color and HDR which is far more bandwidth hungry than what the 12K's resolution would require with DSC. In fact, it can support 8K which is more than twice as many pixels at 60 Hz with HDR by using DSC, and this is dramatically more bandwidth heavy. They can already release the 12K and don't need to wait on DP 2.1. They lied. Second, they knew about the bandwidth limitation back in 2021 when it was announced and they had already prototype and were talking about showing a demo later that year but they waited until 2024 to tell us this "excuse"? Meanwhile, they've released multiple stair-step releases to goad people into spending more money while they delay the 12K and eventually buy the 12K, too.

I'm already thinking about getting the Super in the furture. Thank you for your hard work and innovation in the VR space!
I used the Quest 3 for a week, had fun sim racing but the WiFi thing made it very much compressed and a visual and setup disaster. The Crystal super will effectively be my first ever VR headset.

This is the best Pimax have done so far on marketing. We all know, they messed up in the past - now it looks like they are on a better path. I really hope, they start to learn from their past mistakes, and become a company we can trust. A video like this is 1 step in a better direction. So even if there is mixed news, I applaud you for being open about it.
Well done - exactly what I think many of us had hoped for in clarity of communication and transparency on where the product development challenges lie for a device like this. Thank you - looking forward to more updates like this one!
Great job with the communication Pimax. Off you keep this up, better quality and software. I can see Pimax as one of the best if not the best in the industry and very hard to beat.
I would ask that you go in order. OG Crystal owners have waited over a year for wide lenses and yet the lite appears to be of higher priority. I appreciate the updates, but it is disappointing that my purchase of the OG Crystal fulfillment was never met. I was originally told it would come with 42PPD, then elected the wide lenses. I was one of the early OG Crystal batches
Great update. Looking forward to your upcoming products while enjoying your current headset. Combat flight sim in VR is just such a pleasure with the Crystal, notwithstanding that I absolutely would appreciate being able to increase the resolution of the experience, so I very much appreciate that Pimax is trying to make that work. Being a company that aims to make higher resolution in VR reality despite the serious challenges is quite commendable in my book.
Dear Pimax team, I've been a fan of Pimax ever since I got my Pimax Vision 8kx. Yes, the headset is not the easiest when it comes to setting it up perfectly. What convinced me, however, were the lenses compensation profiles. For me, these are the best profiles on the market and Pimax has my absolute confidence in the future. The support was always good. I already found the Pimax Crystal interesting, but as a PC VR user, the Pimax Crystal light nailed it. I really hope that this will be reflected economically for Pimax, but I think so. For me it's a clear sign that Pimax is listening to the PC VR community. Thank you very much for that! The only reason I didn't press the order button was because Pimax also announced the Pimax Crystal Super. In my opinion, this sounds like the almost perfect device for me. According to the information that the case will be smaller even more. I had some doubts about the binocular overlap, as this was a main criticism of the Crystal's wide FOV lenses. However, with this video I am convinced that this will not be the case with the Pimax Crystal Super. So this video has a positive effect on me. I'm not a particular insider, but I've been working with stereoscopy and VR for over 20 years. As an IT technician, I am also technically skilled. The statements from this video don't surprise me, but rather reflect what I thought I would expect. But from my side, all respect for how Pimax is communicating in this way. For me, what I wished for but didn't expect. I think that's really cool, thanks Pimax. Of course, anyone who has already pre-ordered certain devices may see it differently, but I am of the opinion that this video comes across as very apologetic, which shouldn't be the case from my perspective. I'm looking forward to the beginning of 2025, when a new RTX5090 can serve a Pimax Crystal Super well ;-)
Nice, love the update. I figured with Crystal Light that prob flooded you guys with orders lol. Before it, I never considered getting one of your products either due to price or undesirable features. But the Crystal Light checked all the boxes for what I was looking for, and I'm patiently waiting for it to arrive 😁
Excellent communication. Thank you. Really looking forward to Pimax's new & innovative products including 12K. I currently own the 8KX and love it. Thanks Pimax :)
I pre-ordered my original Crystal and to this day I still use my Reverb G2. The Crystals ill fit and low FOV is disappointing and the delay with the promised wide FOV lenses is shameful.
....sadly even the 12K QLED isn't out and another 2 HMDs were/are getting released before it (Crystal SUPER & Crystal Light), and that laci of support for the Portal... and its VR attachment and the lack of a MR face plate after all these years is still weird?
Since Pimax enjoys creating lots of intermediate SKUs, why not aim to build a Pimax 10K that tackles all of the specifications expected to be present in the 12K but with a reduction in panel resolution to work within the limits of DP1.4. The 8KX is getting long in the tooth however there are no other good 160+ FOV headsets out there to fill the gap, so I'd be more than happy to see resolution sacrificed in favor of FOV for at least one SKU as a stopgap until the full vision of the 12K can be realized.
@@paulct91 All of the Crystal headsets including the Super are 130 diagonal FOV and even with the wide FOV lens it's barely pushing 140 with tradeoffs, nowhere close to the older 8KX/8K/5K+'s 160 diagonal FOV.
Exactly. The modest resolution bump of the Crystal, plus the glass lenses, plus the local dimming, plus the eye-tracking, etc, but in a wide-FOV variant (not one degree less than the 8k-x mind you! I play racing sims and the FOV is absolutely essential). That would be a perfect product right now. I look, every week, to see if someone, anyone, has a true wide-FOV HMD so I can upgrade from my 8k-x, but thus far nobody has built one. Look at the Somnium, which looks like a pretty amazing piece of kit, but the FOV, supposedly "wide" on the Somnium is actually is a freaking joke. *sigh*
I love it that you guys newest and best versions of VR headsets. My problem is you always say it's going to be shipped but you know that is not going to be shipped so why not just tell the truth and we'll just wait for the product to be released. This will reduce customer disappointment would cause sales issues cuz we have no confidence that you going to release anything. Then we just look for other options or just. It's simple just tell the truth about products being developed and released dates. And customers will be more happy about it.
Im not a user of your products yet, as my first headset was a quest 3 at the beginning of this year, but its nice to hear your openness with your community and im excited for your future products, especially that 12k. Cheers!
I'm really interested in the Super and I will buy it if you guys solve the foveated rendering problem. I want to experience 57 PPD in every game, so the foveated rendering has to make a big difference in FPS.
I haven't used a Pimax since I shelved my 8k for a wireless HMD solution about a year ago.. and the loss of FOV still bothers me. My main reason for not looking into a newer Pimax was because every kick-starter stretch goal upgrade I received for my 8k was total junk. Added to that, there was so much BS over-the-top hype from Pimax when the Crystal was originally announced I simply couldn't trust that it would be a quality piece of hardware. But after watching this update I feel that trust can be restored. This open and honest look behind the curtain has made me feel like there actually IS an emphasis on quality again, even if it means slower production. I am ok with waiting if I know it will be a quality product. I think am a fan of Pimax again.. and I miss that sweet sweet FOV..
Yup, I'll take slower quality over fast junk any day. Pimax are pushing themselves to make cutting edge headsets for a reasonable price point, it's what makes them the best. But carving out your own road ahead isn't easy, so stuff getting delayed or problems along the way is to be expected to get this sort of thing.
I also have a 8KX and don’t trust pimax yet. I was informed at the time of purchase that the 8KX would have a trade in value for the 12kx and now I don’t hear anything about it .trust is earned and pimax hasn’t earned it yet for me
Quick Pimax Crystal Super questions - 1. when this is ready to roll out, will it come out with the complete package so we won't need to worry about purchasing anything additional as everything works in full out of the boxl? 2. Can we use any Meta Quest controller and any other controller with it? 3. Do have a ROUGH target date or period of when the product will come out? Example, November or December this year or next January? 4. Will you ship to japan from day 1?
I suppose the same bandwidth limitation will be an issue for Super also? So will need a 5090 with DP 2? Wondering whether to wait for that or get crystal light
Supposedly the RTX 5000 series is arriving early next year (2025)... so maybe wait for a review...? Rumors even whisper of possibly even 2 different possible RTX Titans being designed... so if that pans out... even that'll be a thing to consider (dream about).
@@paulct91 No, that tech has not made it to VR headsets yet. Meta & Valve are the only companies working on it right now. This tech GREATLY increases COMFORT!
That was great to finally get an answer of why things are still in development. Thank you for that. Every time I ask someone on the phone or email, it is always a vague "I don't know." Is there any update on the trade in program as well? I have an 8KX DMAS and really looking forward to getting rid of the cables.
I Love all Your efforts to improve VR experience. I am expecting Your new products and wil buy them because i always was and still am very satisfied with my bought Headsets like 5k plus, 5k super and 8kx. I am continuing to expect the news. At the beginning i was expecting the first wide FOV headsets and was not disappointed. On the contrary. Thanks for the video.
Yeppers.... not sure why another headset so close in specs to the 12K QLED was warranted... since the 12K QLED was supposedly so close to being finished.
when will the Headsets get sent to stores like Amazon UK? As the extra fees for a Headset coming into the UK from abroad are in the region of £200 extra on top of a headset? So im looking to purchase from a UK store like Amazon
I so nearly ordered a 12K when it was announced. So glad that I didn't now as I guess it's still a year away. Two points: 1) l really can't see why dual DP1.4 wouldn't work (or dual HDMI 2.1). 2) Freeform digital aspheric lenses can be produced by most optical labs in about a week. Is there really no supplier able to supply these. I gave up and bought a Varjo Aero at the 999 price.
That sounds like a good solution especially since Pimax has their own 'driver' software and now Pimax Play (PiPlay) that SHOULD be able to do just that!
@@stevetb7777 They had an offer at the time to buy the 8KX and trade in for full price paid against the 12K when it released. I wonder if they'll honour that offer if they ever release the 12K. I somehow doubt it.
This is the best VR company in the world straight Gigachads. I have achieved a lot of milestones in my life I am very proud of. Experiencing the Pimax Crystal light / Super / 12k is my next milestone. I will cry and fry the internals of the headset from tears of joy then buy another one and cry and fry that one and repeat until I have no money left and go into bankruptcy from my Pimax addiction. Ty for your communication and your vision of the VR future that we all dream of. Every single one of you are making that reality. you all will be Legends written in stone in the end! 😎
Can i make a suggestion for the airlink? Can you add the option for the hmd to automatically start up in airlink mode when you start AIO mode? This will just make it easier to get in if thats all you use it for
Please just finish the 12K QLED or possibly the Micro OLED version sooner, instead of all these last minute additions that only work with one headset! Also, how come so little long term support for the Portal & Portal's VR attachment...??? QUESTION: Is Pimax going to join the DisplayPort standard board (I guess Vesa guys?) to help add the special sauce to the next Displayport standard... instead of simply complaining that Displayport can't handle it?

I'm not a particular insider, but I've been working with stereoscopy and VR for over 20 years. As an IT technician, I am also technically skilled. The statements from this video don't surprise me, but rather reflect what I thought I would expect. But from my side, all respect for how Pimax is communicating in this way. For me, what I wished for but didn't expect. I think that's really cool, thanks Pimax. Of course, anyone who has already pre-ordered certain devices may see it differently, but I am of the opinion that this video comes across as very apologetic, which shouldn't be the case from my perspective. I'm looking forward to the beginning of 2025, when a new RTX5090 can serve a Pimax Crystal Super well ;-)
Thanks a lot. This helps the wait time of 1/5th of my salary since 3 months.
Love it! Thank you very much for this update.
I am looking forward for the 60G link. This will improve PCVR a lot!
Thank you for sharing, looking forward to the next update!
Thanks for the update Jaap.👍
Nice, love the update. I figured with Crystal Light that prob flooded you guys with orders lol. Before it, I never considered getting one of your products either due to price or undesirable features. But the Crystal Light checked all the boxes for what I was looking for, and I'm patiently waiting for it to arrive 😁
60G Airlink SOOOO COOOOL but only for pimax !!
Also only for Crystal OG.
Excellent communication. Thank you. Really looking forward to Pimax's new & innovative products including 12K. I currently own the 8KX and love it. Thanks Pimax :)
支持pimax! 本来因为等light等的有些沮丧心烦 但是看到这个交流态度立刻转粉
No, besides isn't that already the Crystal SUPER....?
*sigh*
Any news if MR will work with the PCL when it releases?
All in all very positive. Keep it up. I'm waiting for the 12K😃
Thanks 🎉 ❤ most Pimaxians know this stuff but its great to get it in a condensed format 😀 😊
Cheers!
Thanks Jaap, please focus on QC issues like dead pixels
Thank you. Again, happy to wait.
I'm really interested in the Super and I will buy it if you guys solve the foveated rendering problem. I want to experience 57 PPD in every game, so the foveated rendering has to make a big difference in FPS.
Yes, high quality or no deal!
Waitting for 60G Airlink for ETS2 and AMS2..... any trade-in program for Pimax Crystal upgrade to Pimax Crystal Super ?
Thank you for the update. I love it!!! 👍
I have to agree, fantastic update, very clear, to the point and honest roadmap.
Thank you for sharing. I'm greatly interested in your cie and product.
I'm waiting for Crystal Super with fov 200 🥇
I was informed at the time of purchase that the 8KX would have a trade in value for the 12kx and now I don’t hear anything about it .trust is earned and pimax hasn’t earned it yet for me
When you say hype about Crystal, did you mean the hype up about the 12K QLED?
Quick Pimax Crystal Super questions - 1. when this is ready to roll out, will it come out with the complete package so we won't need to worry about purchasing anything additional as everything works in full out of the boxl? 2. Can we use any Meta Quest controller and any other controller with it? 3. Do have a ROUGH target date or period of when the product will come out? Example, November or December this year or next January? 4. Will you ship to japan from day 1?
Good questions, I'm curious also!
Will production of the original Pimax Crystal resume?
Aah, dutch. always nice to hear
Are the Pimax Crystal super part of the exchange program for the pimax 12 k reality?
I suppose the same bandwidth limitation will be an issue for Super also? So will need a 5090 with DP 2? Wondering whether to wait for that or get crystal light
Supposedly the RTX 5000 series is arriving early next year (2025)... so maybe wait for a review...? Rumors even whisper of possibly even 2 different possible RTX Titans being designed... so if that pans out... even that'll be a thing to consider (dream about).
Once you guys are able to get verifocal lenses/eye tracking in your headsets it’s an immediate buy for me! 👍🏾
Doesn't every headset outside of Crystal Light... and I guess Portal VR have that (from Pimax)....?
@@paulct91 No, that tech has not made it to VR headsets yet. Meta & Valve are the only companies working on it right now. This tech GREATLY increases COMFORT!
@@paulct91 nope
What headset will the MR cover be compatible with? Crystal, Crystal light or both?
In 'theory' all Reality series headsets.... except the random redesigned shell they came up with.
Love this video. Thanks for the update!!!!
That was great to finally get an answer of why things are still in development. Thank you for that. Every time I ask someone on the phone or email, it is always a vague "I don't know."
Is there any update on the trade in program as well? I have an 8KX DMAS and really looking forward to getting rid of the cables.
I assume I will loose some FOV if I wear my eyeglasses in the Pm Crystal Light? Will I be able to get prescription lenses for it?
HonsVR has prescription lense inserts. MRTV has talked about them, I think he has a discount code.
So 12k and crystal super are different headsets?
Yeppers.... not sure why another headset so close in specs to the 12K QLED was warranted... since the 12K QLED was supposedly so close to being finished.
Could you please provide more information about the system requirements for the crystal super?
Also the proposed specs of what 'would' be or may be needed to run the 12K?
when will the Headsets get sent to stores like Amazon UK?
The 12K was never available to order or pre-order, FYI.
@@stevetb7777 They had an offer at the time to buy the 8KX and trade in for full price paid against the 12K when it released. I wonder if they'll honour that offer if they ever release the 12K. I somehow doubt it.
Would love to see more tracking for the super. Pre ordered and waiting patiently. Can't wait for my first headset
"Daily BEZOS meeting" is an awesome business approach and will no doubt pay dividends in the future, keep it up :)
I can’t explain the honor I have for those who create products ahead of their time. Literally the 12k needs the technology to catch up.
Can i make a suggestion for the airlink? Can you add the option for the hmd to automatically start up in airlink mode when you start AIO mode? This will just make it easier to get in if thats all you use it for
Good tip. Will share (in the Bezos meeting!)
Please just finish the 12K QLED or possibly the Micro OLED version sooner, instead of all these last minute additions that only work with one headset!
Also, how come so little long term support for the Portal & Portal's VR attachment...???
QUESTION: Is Pimax going to join the DisplayPort standard board (I guess Vesa guys?) to help add the special sauce to the next Displayport standard... instead of simply complaining that Displayport can't handle it?
please why not offer a halo strap on your products which is the most comfortable solution?
At least as an option since even the ridiciouslessness of the Crystal SUPER's twin displays is already a limited market product!
Keep going guys!! You are awesome!
