  • In this video, we explore how to plan and design the interior details of a LEGO building, specifically, the ground floor of the LEGO Hillside House (5771).
    Topics include identifying space, areas of function, Lego furniture, decorations and interior detailing.
    This is a great way to start detailing your LEGO modular buildings, especially the earlier sets that do not have interior detail.

    when building lego buildings like a store or hospital, would you suggest building a really big one with decent detail, or a smaller one with extreme detail?

  • @GJBricks
    @GJBricks 6 лет назад +14

    You make it look so easy. Great use of space and seeing the models broken down like that makes it so obvious how a good plan can work. Found it interesting that you did the floor after the furniture. Why was that? I have big fingers so can get a little fiddly to do the small detailing like that. It all looks great though. Great share! Thanks

      GJBricks Thanks! I do the tiling last because during the planning of the furniture and stuff, things change quite a bit. If I tile first, then I end up having to take out tiles which is a b@!#$ when it is in a building.

    • @GJBricks
      @GJBricks 6 лет назад +1

      Yay! I got you to swear! Lol. And understood. Figured it was that, but wanted to make sure. Think I'd probably layout, then remove sections to tile and put back unless the area was big enough.
      FYI, building the Detective's Office currently. My first of the expert sets. Amazing how good they are and so enjoyable to make! So excited to be in this space again :)

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  6 лет назад +1

      GJBricks :) The detective's office is one of my favs because it is multi-dimensional and there are many different "buildings" in one set is and multiple small builds like the pool table and detective's office itself. Assembly Square would still be the best but I would advise building the rest first, otherwise you will be spoilt by the AS since it contains elements from virtually all of the previous sets and overall is the most interesting set to build.

    • @GJBricks
      @GJBricks 6 лет назад +1

      I have been looking at Assembly Square next because it's becoming hard to find. Rather get it at a decent price.
      I do have the Parisian Restaurant and Ninjago City to build too (that was what hooked me on the Creator stuff. Such a beautiful set!).

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  6 лет назад +1

      Get it but don't build it till you build others! And Ninjago City after AS too. NC has such inventive building techniques, beyond being an amazing design in itself.

    JC, you do an amazing job on the interiors of you buildings, I really admire that! thanks for sharing some of your tips! I really think your additional touches make the sets much more interesting! What a difference! I love what you did with the kitchen area and the simple addition of a door mat, did add depth and color to that bland space, too! The clock and picture by the stairs was a nice touch, too! Super!

    Should I rip out the interior of my modulars (brick bank and detectives office) and make my own interior? And thanks for the video. It helped me finish my moc"

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  6 лет назад +3

      Ashwin Senawiratne I think the interiors for those are quite good already but what you can do is to add more details to them. So I recommend building on what is existing and make it better and your own at the same time. Leave a completely original interior for an empty building or a MOC.

    Interesting what you said to GJBricks about Assembly Square and Ninjago City. They were both must-have sets for my little town. NC in particular is a masterclass on how to cram as much as possible into a small space! I have just built AS and am now beginning to add to the interiors which don't all have loads of detailing, so this video is very timely. My Sigfig has already moved into the AFOL's apartment over the bakery 😂 It now has smart purple carpet too (her favourite colour) 😃

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  6 лет назад

      Caroline Mockett Yes, NC is amazing that way and is an incredibly fun build. I think it is the best value for money set especially if you like the Asian theme. Have fun detailing AS! I never detailed it but it does have nice scattered detail throughout.

    Well done! I´m always a bit disappointed, when there is no interior inkluded. Would you also put some stuff inside the upper floor? 🐧

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  6 лет назад

      Thanks! Yes, I will do the upper floor in a future video. That one is a bit more complicated due to the layout and slanted roof.

    Hey SBC - thanks for the advice. I think it is cool how your previous videos lead into this one - good thinking :-) And I like the new interior you've built here. Your basic idea of detail-heavy and as-much-stuff-as-possible is good. I agree that it gives a good level of realism! Would you ever consider doing vehicles - busses, RV's and such? With the level of detail you have here and your general focus on small builds, I would love to see you tackle the inside of an RV :-D Thanks for a great vid - I'm looking forward to the next one for sure :-)

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  6 лет назад +1

      Brick Bakery Thanks! I hope people like this sort of content. There really isn't much content like this around so hopefully people will find it over time. I'm really not into vehicles... or star wars. Thank God, otherwise that alone would increase LEGO's earnings and make me very poor.

    • @BrickBakery
      @BrickBakery 6 лет назад

      Heh - I know what you mean about Star Wars :-) Is it me or are SW sets a little more expensive than the regular sets? If you are still looking for something to remake, I've looked at a couple of old LEGO catalogs, and I saw a couple of windmills - like 550 or what about the brickyard 580. Well, it's just suggestions! However, they ARE in need of an update ;-)

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  6 лет назад +1

      All the licensed sets are super exp. I found the recent Jurassic World sets expensive for the size. I think I will tackle the windmill in the near future. Thanks!

    I wish I still had my huge container of Lego, but my mum threw it away because I didn’t play with it for a long time, but I’m slowly getting back into Lego all because of a RUclips channel named 60 Second Lego, he has a series (right now part 2 of the finale is in development right now) called Lego Lore, a violent, gory, action filled stop motion affair, starring Lego Shadow the Hedgehog, along side with Homer as Wolverine, Din Jarrin, Omni-Man, Patrick, he’s dead, a skeleton, also dead, a Lego army guy, got his heart ripped out by Nolan, some Star Wars characters, some are dead and more, it’s all because I wanna make my own Lego World, with some violence, weird looking characters, different looking interiors and more
