The level design is made so that the player is not able to leave the area in the ruins before killing all the Striders, if you try to rush it, the striders will cease all other activities and prioritize you and shoot the beam that cross over the ruins out to the street. It doesn't destroy the beam but rather kill the player if you get directly hit or you can also get blown off from the beam so you have to traverse all the way back again.
I feel while the remix is awesome, the regular song fits the game better due to the strider sounds and the use of normal instruments. I think Half Life 2’s soundtrack works so well due to the normal instruments we’re used to being mixed with these almost alien sounding noises, symbolizing how humanity has been fused with so much alien technology
