    Thanks for including the safety info. Many newbies seem to underestimate just how harmful these products can be to their health - especially something that sounds as benign as 'water washable'.

    Is it compatible with ELEGOO Jupiter 6K?

    • @KannonStudiosOfficial
      @KannonStudiosOfficial  День назад

      Hi! I would definitely imagine so, this was Elegoo's own resin after all :) You may just need to find the resin profile settings for your specific printer. And you can always fine tune the settings with a file like the cones of calibration

    Stiffness and durability are often mutually exclusive. This is why knives and other metalworkings are tempered, to make the metal *less* hard so that it does not shatter.

    Glad to know the ABS resin is not much different from 'the water one' :-) Saving the IPA money is great, but my reason to decide for the water washable (and deciding buying a Mars 2 pro altogether) is to avoid IPA at all, I don't like its odor. Thanks for the video, keep it going!

      @@KannonStudiosOfficial water washable resin is a big step and since i knew about that an SLA printer is back on my "wants list" - but what do you really do with the contaminated water- every video i see says " i let it evaporate in the garden" - but what do you do if you print a lot, or in the winter, or if you have no garden ?

    • @KannonStudiosOfficial
      @KannonStudiosOfficial  3 года назад +2

      @@senegalus I do not ever pour out this water but I re-use it and sift out and pieces. You can continue this process of using UV light and re-using the water. This is what I do personally. I have a few large containers and some small ones. You can always use a UV lamp.

    Thanks for the info. I've heard other people say after exposing the water to sunlight for a while it can be dumped in the drain. Is this not the case?

    • @KannonStudiosOfficial
      @KannonStudiosOfficial  3 года назад +5

      I do not pour it out or in the drain personally. I will keep it in the sun and strain it removing any already cured pieces, which can be throw away. Then I am able to re-use the water and I can continue this process or let it evaporate. If any resin is still liquid it's considered a hazardous material, so I try to be as safe as possible when working with it.

    I have considered a resin printer for quite a while now, but the whole bit with having to struggle with another chemical to clean the resin is really putting me off.
    This sounds like a good solution!
    Have you moved over to only using water washable resin now?

    • @KannonStudiosOfficial
      @KannonStudiosOfficial  Год назад +1

      I didnt because it's too brittle for a lot of the things i make like props. I am currently using a 50/50 ratio of siraya tech blu / siraya tech fast grey.

      With the water wash resin I would filter out the cured residue after leaving it out in the sun. Then i reuse that same water. If never intending to reuse, i would just let it evaporate from the container over time.

    • @yomboprime

      I always remove supports before (or during) cleaning. That's another advantage of the water washable resin.

    • @KannonStudiosOfficial
      @KannonStudiosOfficial  3 года назад

      I haven't tried various water temperatures but it would be an interesting experiment. I'd imagine it makes it much softer. I have the radius at the end of my supports very small,. so my supports are usually fairly easy to pull off. Something I may try out. Thanks!

  • @spritethirstman
    @spritethirstman 3 года назад +1

    The water resin is known to wash off easier, and none of your later prints had left over resin. I feel like inadequate cleaning was a factor for the rook's stairs.
    Checking out many YT'ers evaluations and water washable seems for all intents and purposes, equal in capability to standard resin.

    • @spritethirstman
      @spritethirstman 3 года назад +1

      Also, WW being softer may prevent models from being broken if dropped, without mixing in expensive flex resin to soften them up.

      I recently came into this issue never really knowing how brittle ABS like resin is. It hasn't bee suggested to mix in the water washable resin before,. so I will have to try that. I mostly make props, so I mainly just stick to my blended mixed of 50/50 Siraya Tech Fast (Grey) and Siraya Tech Blu. I've found this mix has a great durability - while helping save on cost. I haven't used water washable as much just because of durability. I still think it's great for certain projects.

    As a Chemist, your safety tips were spot on. I just tried “Anycubic Water-Wash Resin +” on my Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K and got good results.
    One thing I might suggest is that you invest in an Ultrasonic unit to get the resin out of deep places.

    My city is considering huge fines for anyone disposing of contaminated water from resin printing improperly. The proposed fines are from thousands of dollars to actual time in prison depending on location.
    It seems that some experts have been going around the United States showing people how to trace down contamination through sewage, and other means. They don’t even have to enter the home to confirm.
    Apartments are more complex, but that does not mean that the fines are less in any way. The owner will be fined if they don’t do their own inspection and stop the contamination. It also encourages the owner to give up any information and or allow the inspectors to come in.
    This hasn’t hit big news. And probably won’t. But they’re currently going around my area and finding some seriously terrifying data.
    Oh, and these people started out as drug enforcement. So they’ve also have tracked down about six meth labs in our area lol.
