TFA was not shitty. J.J. is just too afraid to do something new. That, however, did not make the movie bad.
So in six minutes we got a story of a mother’s love for her daughter, a child finding that she is stronger than anticipated, an outsider entity using and manipulating this child for his own purpose, the child being turned into a monster, and in the end the mother doing whatever she can to stop the monster she once called her own.
Well the "outsider" is her father. And ruler of the Eternal Empire.

It's a short story. It has fewer elements to stand or fall on. You're also more forgiving for what it's missing and willing to fill it in.

Not a movie, but I can definitely recommend clone wars. The last season especially is quite good.
While the CGI they do is pretty good, don't make the mistake of thinking it reflects or represents gameplay in any way. It doesn't, and the only reason people still play this terrible MMO is because they haven't heard of Black Desert yet.

Because it takes a lot of creativity (sort of, a lot of clichés) and effort, to make a great movie real. And they just want to make money. Quick easy money. Fans will watch it anyways.
Maybe because they don't want to use a lot of currency and because as we speak they put a lot of thought in VII and maybe VIII, and maybe their scared it wont be as "great" or popular as Episodes I-VII.

What I like best is that Senya doesn't even use her lightsaber to take out most of the mooks- she disarms them, throws them off the bridge, throws a knife, breaks a neck, and generally demonstrates she _earned_ her position as a Knight of Zakuul.

I love her lightsaber style. I wonder if she uses the lightsaber more conservatively cause her daughter is there or if that's just how she fights generally?
Yeah, for a series where elaborate, drawn out light sabers fling fest are such common place, it's kinda genius of the writer to exercises some restraints and take it out in a less is more kinda way. It shows off Senya versatility as a fighter; the fight doesn't get bland with so many glowing stick floating around, allowing the viewer to focus on Senya martial arts prowess through movement; and makes the light saber finish move all the more satisfying and epic.
Seriously though, Lucas Films please let BioWare make a movie :)

I actually feel sorry for Vaylin. Her mother Senya was taken away from her, and then Valkorian sent her to Nathema, a place that is dead in the Force, and subjected to at least a decade of torture in order to contain her power which eventually turned her to the Dark Side. And then betraying and turning against the one person who cared for her more than anything. This is what Star Wars needs to be, and not what we have gotten over the past 3 years.

Yeah, I felt bad for her when I played the game. I wanted to find a way to redeem Vaylin but unfortunately she was too far gone which would probably make her a tragic villain. I felt bad for Vaylin more than Arcann but I healed him especially since I did not want Senya to be completely alone (it turns out you would have to kill her if you refuse to heal Arcann).

I hate MMOs and Electronic Arts with a passion, but I can't help but play the class stories. This game is an epic on par with a Song of Ice and Fire trapped in a soulless cashmilking machine.
+Victorious Commissar :D:D:D, Dude, I was playing Star Wars Galaxies for 6 years which was far better at the time and still in some way is and played SWTOR for three, it was fun, the story was amazing, BUT as MMORPG it sucked major ass but was still playable since at the time there were some things to do. BUT, What they did for the last two years is absolut garbage. Everything is made as easy as you can get it, no new operations, no open space flight, solo flashpoint, crafting is easy, everything in that game is easy....and no, people who expected as MMORPG were disapointed as well since the game has nothing that can hold you and it is now just about buying cosmetics from cartel market.
***** For me, crafting was the most fun in older mmorpgs like ultima online and stuff. You really had to put work in it and could be quite know for your master crafts, in that way swtor was meh in that part.
And as you say, I've played through all the stories and characters to enjoy that part but that's about it.

I still think the game would have done better as a Single Player game with offline and online functions for players if they wanted to experience certain multiplayer challenges. The game serves more of a Single player game to begin with anyways and was a fun replayable game due to each class have different story, until they changed it to having the same story with different dialogue and interactions.
The whole focus on it being a MMO really prevented it from showing what it could have accomplished more as a single player focus game over a MMO type game.
This has gotten to the point where these trailers, I repeat, *trailers* are better then half of the Star Wars films.
Just make a TV series already, jeez.

all trailers are better than their own movies... the trailers have awesome parts picked out from the movie without anything in between. You should know this by now... thats why they seem so much better than the movies themselves.
What's the difference in paying 1 actor 20 million dollars to star in a movie. The brand name alone (Star Wars) is all you need to bring in the cash.

These guys seem to have a formula for a perfect short story, and the formula for a perfect Star Wars fight scene, all of their trailers are amazing. Could this talent not be used better for something else other than a game no one plays?

I think it is because you see the horror on her face as she fully sees what her daughter has become, how truly evil she is; and it breaks her heart. Because you can see that she sees the fall of her daughter as her fault.
I used to watch this a lot and I didn’t think this was her daughter... I’ve always had the impression that she was her guardian watching over her. Still sad either way tho but, realizing that this was her daughter.... shit actually got to me and I shed a tear. I don’t quite understand how a 6 minute fucking video makes me have more emotional output and makes it sentimental to me while the sequels make me feel nothing. Whoever wrote this needs to be hired with Disney because whatever he or she can do with 2 hours of footage is beyond my imagination

The sequels are very terrible movies. The only part that touched me is when Chewbacca crumbled when everyone he loved was dead.
If you watch some small cinematic videos like ''Old Warrior''(Warcraft), ''Annie Origins''(League of Legends) or ''Honor and Glory''(Overwatch), you'll have similar feelings. All of them have a heart breaking moment really well made. I can't watch Old Warrior without crying.

Trying to save someone and it not working out the way you hoped hurts. The realization that they're too far gone sets in and then all that's left is to abandon them and that feels even worse.

I'm not referring to technical settings. The emotional impact of the trailers increases as time goes on. They are improving upon each trailer they create. That was my point.
The strongest and most powerful trailers are more meaningful and often with little to no dialogue such as here.
Technology and graphics are nothing without substance.

The bond that Senya had to Vaylin is incredible. Vaylin taken away from her mother, the way she looked back scared when she was escorted by Valkorion and the way she was "trained" to turn her into a numb monster is incredible. Senya is probably the most heartbroken mother in the Star Wars universe, the Eternal twins and Vaylin taken away from her.
The most painful part must be in the end of the trailer, the way Senya realized that it was her daughter. Grown up, nothing but darkness.

Games with kick ass beautiful trailers like these always end up subpar titles. Cos the game doesn't live up to what the trailer did. And the game graphics, tend to suffer next to the jaw-dropping trailer via all the blatant comparisons made to it as well.

TFA was "good" because it was "The Original Trilogy" condensed into one movie with modern practical and CGI effects. I just hate the people that are like it's the best SW movie. No Star Wars will ever beat Empire.

George Daugherty EP7 is a copy paste of the original trilogy. Of course its star wars.
Still goosebumps all over. I mean, the Twins cinematic was already fantastic, but Vaylins tragic story still gets me the most. The Twins had some "freedom" in growing up (of course manipulated by Valkorion), but Vaylin was just tampered into a lunatic killing machine. Of course Valkorion knew neither of the twins, not even Arcann, do possess this potential for raw power, madness and destruction.
The look on her mothers face makes me tear up every time. The few seconds she needs to realize who the attacker is, but then the sheer look of horror, that her beloved daughter is finally beyond any hope of redemption, its still heartbreaking.
When a game trailer has better fight coreography than a big budget disney star wars film
The fight scene on the bridge is so goddamn impressive. One continuous shot, giving us an array of combat moves and improvised stunts. I adore everything about it.
I'm also one of the... eleven? people that still play and like SWtOR. So this does, in fact, get me excited about the game.

How big is the playerbase now? I played it quite a lot at release, and through the first two raids, but it seems people lost interest with too many bugs and such. I loved the storytelling though through the game. Cant remember an mmo quite as immersive.

I play this game like KOTOR, I mean, as much as it's possible of course. Never been a fan of MMO, but it's Star Wars, so I play "single" :-)
Honestly, I prefer he MMO aspect, as PvP is fun, interaction with people and dungeons is great, and it doesn't affect the incredible single player story whatsoever. The problem is they marketed it too much like an MMO while not promoting the amazing single player experience they offered. The MMO experience, like Operations, just couldn't compete with something like Warcraft raids which have been perfected over 10 years, and thus they've gone in a more single player aspect with a persistent world.
Well Mass Effect trilogy was amazing however that was years ago.
You can see the shock, horror and sorrow Senya has in her eyes right at the end, all in a few short seconds. Brilliantly acted, animated and executed.
That fight scene with mom vs the dudes was the coolest I've scene in anything star wars. Watched it like 20 times in a row. So smooth. so fluid. no fat. it all made sense. wooowwww

Captain Chaos In a way it add depth to the character but lets not forget Luke started the same way and then changed. Anakin on the other hand, started like that but didn't change.

Wouldnt be worth the cost. 1 Minute of a blur trailer costs around 1 million $. that would be 60 million per hour and never ever would they be earning this much.
Considering how much a so called 'Triple-A Hollywood blockbuster' costs nowadays, 120 million for a 2 hour feature film is hardly pushing the envelope. It's not like EA... or freakin' Disney lacks the means or method. And it's Star Wars we're talking about. The premier weekend sales would probably cover the cost and then some. xD
I'm sorry? Both EA and Disney are rolling in money. Plus actual big budget films cost upwards of a 100 million to make and most often make a profit.
Only 60 million for a movie length animation is a god damned steal. This is Star Wars, if EA announced they were doing a spinoff animation of The Old Republic they would sell out of tickets before they even go on sale and EASILY break the 60 to 100 million dollar mark. Why? Because everyone loves these and would KILL to get a movie length of this.
Personally, I feel it's a missed business opportunity by Disney, EA, and Bioware to not focus on an animation movie of The Old Republic.
The closest thing to this was The Clone Wars.
+Vexx & 10Sec, The Force Awakens had cost nearly $250 million, not counting advertisements and such, and gained over $2 billion worldwide. In fact, it broke even on just its opening weekend.
Why I state all this? Just to give you some background information for why I state it's a stupid defense that a full CGI movie would be too expensive or wouldn't be worth it. This is Star Wars, not some random new property that'd have to go through the trouble of getting fans in the first place.
Nowadays, one million per minute is absolutely CHEAP compared to "blockbuster" live-action movies. The same excuses no longer hold up, and truly haven't done so for quite some time. A full-CGI Star Wars movie absolutely would make a killing at the box office. It's what many fans have been clamoring for, for years. I, personally, would like to see a movie centered around Bane. A story that'd educate the casual Star Wars fan and give them a glimpse to other stories in the universe.

TFA has made almost 2 billion, if it costs 500 million to make say... A movie about Revan? That's 2 1/2 or 3hrs long, you have any idea how many fucking people would go watch that? They'd make a profit, even if the movie was awful they'd still probably make a profit because it's got star wars in the name and everyone would flock to the theaters just like they did with TFA.
They went to TFA because it's been years since another SW film came out. Since the original trilogy left a sour taste, people were clamoring for a good SW film. I doubt Rouge One will come close. It'll do good but not TFA good.

It's not about you. No publisher would put that enormous amount of money into a ten plus year project that would probably only attract a small group of die hard fans of the Star Wars franchise. It's just not practical. Too expensive and too difficult. Maybe in a few years when the technique is cheaper and more commonplace, but then again, the hype will probably not be as prominent.

She was also capable of defeating a descendant of Anakin Skywalker, who was trained by Luke Skywalker from a young age in the ways of the force and lightsaber combat, who then later had further dark side training by Snoke/Palpatine all whilst it was her first time using a lightsaber...

It probably has the best single player content and story for any MMO, you can almost completely ignore the MMO part of it, almost. Yes, it is deeply floored... but tbh, majority of games are these days. If you are capable of giving things a chance, check it out. If you know you are easily disappointed, don't go outside! xD

Most people like trash, that's why they keep making bland movies, cause masses go out to see them. If they made an R rated movie where they dare explore the Dark Side like they should, the movie wouldn't pass 600 mil in box office, this way they earn a billion+.
I made an example using the Dark side cause it's not really kid-friendly, there's no real ''villain'' movies out there for that reason, also we as people tend to root and feel for heroes better than villains. So if you make an R rated movie which has a ''villain'', so to speak, as your main character, as amazing it could be, it would not earn much money so companies don't do that but make kid-friendly, lighthearted movies instead...sadly.

It's because similar to game development, developers are afraid to try new ideas. It's also why you see so many super hero movies nowadays.

nah im going to have to disagree with you there, yes it getting a little old that the main characters are skywalkers, but episode 7 has new characters, and even they weren't very interesting, the girl is the most interesting to me, I think what differentiates the movies "now" from the games, is the writing, episode 7 was written horribly, the plot was predictable, and omg the fact that the empire built another death star type weapon that could be destroyed in a similar fashion as the old ones, was the stupidest thing I have ever seen, and the whole rebel alliance fighting back agaibt the empire is done already, they need to come up with something new, and thatz where SWTOR succeeds, because they are coming uo with a new plot, and the writing like the fight scene in this trailer on tgat rainy landing pad bridge was gold, however this can be done with skywalker family too, itz just that movie writers get too excited that they are making a new movie, make it all cheery and happy which is fine to have a little comedy, but they forget about the seriousness, and they don't make anything remeberable and unique, and take the badassness out of it, or dont put enough. Movie producers can really learn something from these trailers because I really think that if these writers were makinf a trailer about the skywalkers, they would be able to make it just as good as these trailers with new characters

This is probably my 4th time doing KOTET, and I am amazed on how BioWare made a story, better than the entire sequels trilogy, and in just 6 minutes, I wonder how amazing it would be to have an entire saga about zakuul, since this 6 minutes trailer is so beautiful.

Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight is the most underrated game of all time from my point of view.
But instead they keep making these absolutely stunning movies for a game that barely deserve them.
I had more fun watching these trailers repeatedly rather than playing the game itself.
These trailers only make me fantasise about the jedi outcast and such other than anything else. the only jedi game that was almost as fun as that was the revenge of the sith for ps2, it had endless combos and ways of slicing everyone. Killing droids was fun indeed but it still wasn't the JK series as well

This is hands down of the best cinematic game trailers to ever exist. The tragic story of Vaylin and Senya makes me tear up sometimes. Really wish Disney would consider doing a full length film or tv show based around the Eternal Throne....there is not enough Vaylin content and I would like there to be!
Checking in in 2021. Still absolutely amazing. The visuals are great for this, but the music is even better, especially during the "rescue" sequence. One of my favorite pieces of Star Wars media of all time.

I still believe the whole Fallen Empire story is being trampled by being part of this MMO. So, when I heard they fixed it I just said no thanks, and I've watched a few Let's Plays instead.

Agree. On the business end however I do understand them NEEDING to put all their effort on the game because they spent crazy amounts of money to get it made in the first place and they need it to make up for what they lost. (Which they shouldn't have, just make another KOTOR :\)
The reason why Bioware doesnt make any new games is because off disney.
Disney will have to be part of the story group, with new cannon and all, and it will put a limit to the story bioware want to tell.
The only way bioware can tell none canon stories is through KOTOR, so that is what they are doing.
Calling an MMO a WoW clone just because it's an MMO is not a feasible argument. One could say any and every MMO out there is a WoW Clone. And WoW itself isn't even that good anymore.

It doesn't have the run time enough for anything to go wrong. It's easy to make a sub 10min string of scenes look good, another thing altogether to create a full production feature.
then again is it THAT hard to not overload a storyboard to the point where you cut too much of the final movie for it to make sense? (something that has happened to episode 3 AND episode 7 in DRAMATIC fashion)
I disagree. One of the hardest things to achieve well in any art form is simplicity. Any cook can throw together 20 flavors to make something taste decent, but it takes a master chef to make a really excellent plain vanilla.

This whole trailer tells an amazing story with no dialogue(a few quick monologue moments, thats it). Down to the expression on her mothers face when she sees her brothers training in the arena and the horror when she sees Veylin as a Sith.
She aint a sith she is part if the eternal empire. She was bred for war by valkorion the old dude who is also her dad to conquer republic and the sith empire
She’s not a Sith she just utilizes the dark side of the force (plenty of force sensitives do, but it doesn’t make them a part of the Sith Cult)
