Perhaps try doing just the top of the sideboard in the wood effect(?) It would be just enough to break up the rather monolithic effect of all black, plus it would alleviate the currently most dust obvious top surface, and with way less work!
Honestly i would practice more on small pieces before tackling the black unit.....well done ...its a technique i also use. Also i did art work with large polistyrene tiles.paint with colour you have .when dry go over with dark wax it turns out a fab stone effect....
