    Running multiple four level stack molds with 8-32 cavities. Each mold weighs from 50k to 100k lbs. manifold, sprues and hot tips all over the place

    What causes metals to stop being usable as molds?

      Good question. I guess you could use almost any material. The problem is that some materials like copper more reactive, therefore would oxidise more quickly. The same will go for magnesium. You need a material that doesn’t corrode easily.

      It wears out because of chemical erosion and physical abrasion. So, it is very important to match the mold making material with the chemistry and abrasive nature of whatever you are molding.
