As a WMSR employee (I'm actually running the table in the video), I'm glad to see that MTH did such a great job on this engine. I'm excited to have mine come in this week! Thanks for riding with us!
Awesome video! Really love the WMSRR 734 and mth but if mth would put the actual bell from 734, it would make the locomotive perfect but I still love this model and I hope to see 734 running again!
You got some really good video from the real 734. Steam engines are so cool. I'm sure you had a great time Nick. Always loved the old Consolidation. One of my favorites. MTH did a great job. Beautiful model.
Thanks so much Al! Yep the old consolidation was fantastic in person and equally as an O scale model! It's an impressive engine. I'll be happy to share it with you in the near future when we run some trains my good buddy! You ought to make a trip to Cumberland some time this year and ride it before it's out of service for a while for a full inspection. It's a nice scenic ride. Took me only 2 hours.
Nick, I think this is the best video you ever made!!!!. I love the way you incorporated the real 734 video in with the MTH model....Excellent work my friend. Can't wait to post my video of the Western Maryland H-9 as well...again great work
Thank you very much Ron! I appreciate the kind words....you're too nice! It was fun combining the mth model and the real 734 into this video. The pictures you showed me of your h-9 look fantastic! Looking forward to seeing that on the tube as well!
Fantastic Video! Like how you put the video of the real engine in with the model! MTH did a good job on this engine! I like the passanger station sounds...they are not typical sounds which is very nice. Again nice job on the video!
Thanks for the nice compliments Darren!! It was a great Father's Day and what better way to share a little bit of that trip then with the MTH premier 734. Can't wait till the WM has that c&o 1309 ready to go!!!! 😛
I wish MTH would update their background and chuffing sounds. Too many of their engines sound exactly alike. They did get the whistle spot on though so kudos for that. It's a nice looking engine for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Hu and thanks for the comments. I agree the chuffing is very alike on most mth steamers. And if you think about it with a steam engine that's the sound you'll hear 90% if the time it's running. Blind fold me and I might not know which one it is lol.
Jonathan Hatfield I personally feel MTH chuffing sounds are better than Lionel. Lionel chuffing sounds like it is in a tin can. I have several Legacy steam locos and my complaint is born out in all of them.
Thank you the 734 is a great engine! I'm not sure about the gp30. Honestly that was my first time ever going to the WMSR so I'm not sure when they started using it. I plan to make many trips back there though. It's only 2 hours from me.
Yeah, I'm about two hours away as well. I like to take trips down there. It's such a nice railroad. I haven't been down in a few years...last time I was there, I was on Brady's excursion.
Finally got to run my engine. The sound is so much better in person. Love the new quillable whistle feature. The freight yard effects are once again pretty corny (come on MTH, you can do better!) But overall a supurb engine.
Glad to hear you got your engine! Mth makes a great product but the sounds still need improvement and they really need a legacy like quillable whistle with a new handheld remote. The current one is good however not nearly as good or user friendly as a legacy remote. I def lean toward Lionel engines more often than not but when mth makes some special engines like this one that Lionel isn't is when I go for the mth products. Mth make awesome rolling stock is will say that also. Lol
Thanks a lot Matt! No I do not plan on weathering this engine. I like weathering some trains but I don't think one like this is a good idea to weatherize. It's more of a collectors piece since the actual #734 is so popular. it's the last year for the 734 since they will have to do a complete inspection of the engine to stay up to par on federal regulations.
Beautiful engine, however, the valve gear is incorrect. The model has walschaerts valve gear, whilst "Mountain Thunder" has baker valve gear. Big detail flaw. Otherwise, beautiful!
Thanks! The whistle sounds better in person than on video. But I would say MTH could have gone with a correct wm chime 3 whistle. The other sounds are outstanding!

That's awesome Alek! MTH really did a great job on this engine! I'll be back to visit the WMSR soon, it was a lot of fun! Thanks for commenting!
The accurate smoke synced with the sound is way, way beyond anything I thought possible "back in the day."
Mark Stockman that's how I felt about 8 years ago when I got back in the hobby. Today's trains are so much more advanced. Thanks!
Wow Nick, You have a Nice Engine, The WM #734 is Perfect for your layout. That is very cool. I like that!
Awesome video! Really love the WMSRR 734 and mth but if mth would put the actual bell from 734, it would make the locomotive perfect but I still love this model and I hope to see 734 running again!
Dang, that’s an awesome video. It really showcased your layout’s wonderful details. Awesome work both with the video/editing and modeling.
1800clyde thank you!! Made it feel like the engine was in a different place rather then at the horseshoe curve

Thanks so much for the nice comments! MTH really did a fine job on this engine. The custom pfa's are awesome! They need to do this more often
Very Nice video Nick very cool looks and sounds fantastic
Thank you very much Nick!!
Looks like you had a great Fathers Day buddy. I love how you blended actual photos and video together with your new MTH Engine. Great job on the vid!
Thanks for the nice compliments Darren!! It was a great Father's Day and what better way to share a little bit of that trip then with the MTH premier 734. Can't wait till the WM has that c&o 1309 ready to go!!!! 😛
Nice steam loco and sounds great and the video I enjoyed watching
Thank you very much!
Awesome locomotive.
Dang, I should've bought one!
Great video ! Love the comparison between the prototype and the model.
Thanks so much Steven! Glad you enjoyed the video!
You've got a nice layout and models. Keep up the good work!
I have the same engine! Haven't gotten to run it yet, after watching this I can't wait to run it!
So Cool! Great Video Nick!!!
Much thanks!! Glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏻
Excellent edited video, this editing tells the story, of this scenic railroad. Well done.
• Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway
Thanks so much Gary. That was my intentions.....to tell a story of what it's like to ride the WMSR with the 734. Thanks again! Glad you enjoyed. 👏🏼

Well thank you kind sir!! Lol 👍🏻😃😃😃
Awesome video Nick!
Thanks a lot Jeff! I appreciate the continued views and compliments!
Your welcome Nick!
Nice Locomotive
Nice loco I still haven't riden behind the 734 and probably wont sadly. But her New Big sister I may have to ride in the cab.
Dude yeah the 1309 will be coming next year. I'm def going to do a cab ride or throttle time when that day comes.,
+PghTrainFanatic Next year? thats a fast restoration! she must have been in immaculate condition!
It's interesting how the real 734 has a Baker Valve Gear yet the model has a Walschaerts Valve Gear
Awesome!!! :)
Thank you Richard!
Looks like a great engine! I have to ask when they started using the GP30. I don't remember it being there the last time I was there.
Thank you the 734 is a great engine! I'm not sure about the gp30. Honestly that was my first time ever going to the WMSR so I'm not sure when they started using it. I plan to make many trips back there though. It's only 2 hours from me.

734’s model has 1225’s bell sound.
In real life and the model are the tenders bigger than the engine? Great video and locomotive
No the locomotive is bigger than the tender. Thank you!
I pre-ordered the 811 freight locomotive with the oxide red roof. I wonder how the crew talk is on it.
Cool you'll really like the 811. My buddy bought that one and I saw a snippet video and it sounds great! Thanks!
Love the model. Only flaw, the narrows are before the 40 bridge.
Yeah no kidding. thanks for the comment.
My only complaint fo the model is it has 1225's bell
Finally got to run my engine. The sound is so much better in person. Love the new quillable whistle feature. The freight yard effects are once again pretty corny (come on MTH, you can do better!) But overall a supurb engine.

I like it but I have a bone to pick, the valve gear is supposed to be baker, not walsherts
Here’s MTH’s phone # 👉🏼410-381-2580. Call them up and be like WTF??!! 😂😂😂
thx
Awesome video Nick! Both the MTH Model and the real WM #734 look and sound great! Are you going to weather this model?
Thanks a lot Matt! No I do not plan on weathering this engine. I like weathering some trains but I don't think one like this is a good idea to weatherize. LS&I 2-8-0 Consolidation #18
Are you still selling it?
I am getting the Lionel western pacific 734 but it's not accurate as this one is.
Fantaboulous engine but the whistle sounds awful it sounds like white noise
Thanks! The whistle sounds better in person than on video. But I would say MTH could have gone with a correct wm chime 3 whistle. The other sounds are outstanding!
Oh, absolutely the engine is a great find
Bloop
Bloop back at you!
Definatley a nice model but thoes voices were the most anoying thing you could ever have on a model !
had too stop watching because of the stupid cheesy crew talk. horrible.
🤣
