    @30:50, one of my most favorite parts of the movie. Cap sees that Spider-Man despite his greater strength and superpowers is just a kid. But he also recognizes that Spidey has courage and guts to stand toe to toe with him.
    So Cap acknowledges Peters bravery and asks him where he is from as if speaking to a young soldier in his Army unit. Peter replies that he is from Queens. That smile on Caps face as he replies “Brooklyn” is heartwarming.
    For folks outside of the US, Queens and Brooklyn are adjoining boroughs of New York City. So despite being separated by over 70 years of history, Cap is happy to know he and Spider-Man are practically from the same neighborhood.

      Regarding Spider Man movies, you won't see them on Disney+ yet (assuming that's where you're looking). You are right to suspect it's a rights issue. Sony owns the rights for Spider Man movies (going back well before the MCU/first Iron Man movie). Also, what Wanda did to Vision when she and Hawkeye were leaving was to use his own powers against him. He can change his body's density from insubstantial (allowing him to float/fly) to super dense. Wanda forced his body into super dense mode, which made him heavy enough to fall through all those floors of Avenger's Mansion. Wanda also knew that in that super-dense form, it would not hurt him (except his feelings).

    30:12 In the late 1990s Marvel Comics was actually starting to go out of business. In an attempt to not go bankrupt, they sold the movie rights to some of their characters. They sold Spidermans movie rights to Sony, and Xmen, mutants, and Fantastic Four character rights to 21st Century Fox. Then in 2007 Marvel created Marvel Studios, their own movie studio, and began the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008 with Iron Man. The reason the previous Spiderman movies (from 2002, 2004, and 2007 with Tobey MacGuire, and 2012 and 2014 with Andrew Garfield) are not part of the MCU is because Marvel is not allowed to make a Spiderman movie, Sony owns the movie rights. Sony is also under contract to release a Spiderman movie every X number of years in order to hold on to those movie rights, and if they don't, they lose them and they go back to Marvel.
    But then in 2014 Sony got hacked and a whole bunch of nasty internal emails were released, like one executive at Sony said some terrible things about Angelina Jolie. The publicity in general was so bad that they decided not the make a third Amazing Spiderman movie with Andrew Garfield. Instead, Sony made a deal with Marvel that Spiderman could appear in other MCU movies (like Civil War! his first appearance in the MCU) and Sony could make MCU-canon Spiderman movies with other MCU characters (like Iron Man or Captain America) in exchange for not losing Spidermans movie character rights. The deal was accepted, and now Tom Holland appears as the MCU's Spiderman in collaboration with Sony!

    • @samieltheinfamous
      @samieltheinfamous 2 года назад +1

      Also, the reason there haven't been any more solo Hulk movies in the MCU beyond the Edward Norton one is that Universal still retains the film rights to all things Hulk, and is also why characters related to the property (Hulk, Thunderbolt Ross and the Abomination) have only appeared in other characters' or group films, like The Avengers movies.

    • @sertaki
      @sertaki 2 года назад

      Also, all the movie rights that 21st Century Fox held now belong to Disney as well, since they bought Fox recently.
      So they can now include the Fantastic Four, any X-Men they want, Deadpool and any associated villains to their hearts content.
      (And Deapool is now kinda part of the MCU? I think? It's a bit wonky because the X-Men movies are not, but Deadpool operates on bizarro logic anyway, so why not. There will be certainly more Deadpool movies under Disney.)

    • @michaelchenault3693
      @michaelchenault3693 Год назад

      Not-so-fun fact: Sony and Marvel may lose the rights to Spiderman next year. Steve Ditko created Spiderman and his estate want the rights back. I assume it's an attempt to extort Sony and/or Marvel and Marvel has filed a lawsuit to keep the rights. In related bad news: apparently Dr. Strange, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Falcon, and even Avengers are in a similar boat. Apparently the original creators or their estates are smelling blood in the water and they're ready to wreck the entire Avengers franchise. All this could throw a giant wrench into the next batch of MCU movies or even sink the entire Avengers franchise. There's a couple of decent articles on Screenrant with more details and I'm sure there's lots of articles you can google on Marvel losing the rights to all these properties. Hopefully this can get sorted, but I suspect it's gonna take a HUGE chunk of change or very sympathetic courts to keep the Avengers franchise from collapsing.

    This is my favorite movie in the MCU. I love Steve, and the conflict really feels genuine. I especially love that both Cap and Iron Man were emotionally vulnerable when this happened, with Pepper having left Tony, and Peggy dying, which made the bad choices more believable. My favorite delivery of a line in the MCU also happens here, when Tony says "I don't care. He killed my mom." The pain is so clear in that moment. While they are on the track to repair things at the end, they are not there yet. Cap offered the olive branch, but also recognized that Tony may not be ready for it yet, so just left things there. Tony, having had a little time can see that he was not entirely in the right, but I don't think he has fully accepted that apology. Just great acting all around.
    Your reaction was perfect, and great discussion at the end there. Also, I loved the moment at 19:44. I am a straight man, but the first time I saw that seen I had just about that same expression to the chopper scene. There are still some great things coming up in the MCU that I look forward to seeing.
    P.S. vigilante is a term for someone who fights crime without any legal authority to do so. The classic example is Batman, (or basically any other superhero). They often break the law in their attempts to stop crime, so legally they are in the wrong, in spite of the good that they do.

    Spider Man Homecoming and Spider Man Far from Home are part of the MCU (As is the about to come out No Way Home), but they are produced by Sony and have not been made available on Disney Plus yet. They have to be watched on a different service. Actually, I think Homecoming takes place imeediately after this film, but realistically, you will be okay as long as you watch it sometime before Avengers Infinity War.
    Edit: I need to finish these videos before typing. Spider Man Homecoming should be next, but can be viewed any time before Infinity War. Spider Man Far from Home comes after Avengers Endgame. Before you watch Spider Man no Way Home, you will need to go back and watch all of the Spider Man movies that came before the MCU, as they become extremely relevant to No Way Home, despite taking place in different universes.

    To elaborate, the previous Spider-Man movies were made by Sony Pictures and not Marvel Studios. In the 90's, Marvel Comics was going bankrupt and sold the Spider-Man movie rights to Sony, who made the three Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies and the two Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies. In that time, Marvel Comics pulled itself out of bankruptcy, created Marvel Studios, and started making their own series of movies referred to as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or "MCU" for short) starting with the first Iron Man movie in 2008. But because Sony owned Spider-Man, Marvel Studios wasn't allowed to use Spider-Man in the MCU. However, after the last Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movie was received negatively by audiences, Sony made a deal with Marvel Studios to include Spider-Man in the MCU, introducing a new version of Spidey played by Tom Holland in Captain America: Civil War.
    Watching the previous Spider-Man movies isn't entirely necessary here, as the Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland Spider-Men are all separate versions of the character. They are not continuations of the same story, as Sony decided to start fresh and reboot the story each time they recast Spider-Man with a new actor. However, they are worth watching, as the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield movies are actually about to become VERY relevant to the new Tom Holland Spider-Man movie - Spider-Man: No Way Home - that comes out this week. I'm trying to avoid spoilers regarding HOW they become relevant, though the explanation is kinda tricky and will make sense once you get further into the MCU movies and Disney+ shows.

    The situation with Spidey is complicated but long story short: for a while, Marvel Studios didn't own the movie rights to him, Sony did. After three films by Sam Raimi, then a couple reboots by Marc Webb, the Spider-Man movies were making less and less money. So just in time for Civil War, Marvel and Sony made a deal where Spidey could be in the MCU.

    Sony has owned the rights to Spider-Man since 1998. They were making their own Spider-Man films outside of the MCU for years (it's also why PlayStation has the exclusive rights to make games for him). But after Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed in 2014, they finally decided to partner up with Marvel and let him in. There was a big dispute in 2019 and Sony actually yanked Spider-Man out of the MCU for a couple months until Disney and Sony came to a new deal. This is ultimately why there's 2 Venom films (a Spider-Man character) made outside of the MCU right now and Morbius comes out next month...which is another Spider-Man character getting his own movie outside of the MCU.

Marvel/Disney owns the rights to all the rest (they got the X-Men and Fantastic 4 back recently). BUT, Marvel/Disney and Sony have agreed to allow their characters to be in the same MCU setting and have characters crossover into each others films to guest. So Spider-man can appear in Marvel films, The Avengers and others can appear in Spider-man films. And they do cooperate and share some of the profits on them as well.

    Re: Rights to characters
    In the late 80s, Marvel Comics was struggling and to raise some money, sold movie and television rights for some of their characters... The X-Men and Fantastic Four (and their villains) to Fox, Spider-man (and most of his villains) to Sony, and the Avengers to another house (don't remember who). The deals all required the studios to make movies and/or TV shows every few years or the rights would revert to Marvel. The Avengers quickly came back to Marvel, but Fox produced a successful X-Men cartoon and had a series of awful Fantastic Four movies (but it satisfied the contracts). Sony produced several Spiderman cartoons and video games for Playstation.
    Fast forward to the 2010s... Disney buys Marvel after the success of Iron Man and starts up the idea of the MCU. Fox has massive financial troubles and gets bought by Disney (bringing X-Men and Fantastic Four back under Marvel control for movies). Sony has a hiccup in their financial issues and strikes a deal with Disney/Marvel for them to "borrow" Spiderman. Spidey is still a Sony property, but under the deal, allows Marvel to use him in the MCU. In exchange, Marvel allows characters like Iron Man and Dr. Strange to appear in the Spiderman movies... it's a true win-win for Sony and Disney/Marvel since Spiderman is Marvel's best known character and the success of the MCU guarantees a movie audience for a Spiderman that's part of the MCU.

      the avengers weren't sold off, the individual characters that comprised most of the "iconic" avengers roster were in their possession with exception of Hulk who was with Universal and Namor (a major reason the avengers project got off the ground to begin with).
      A few of the other characters WERE with other companies prior to the MCU but New Line Cinema returned Iron Man, Lions Gate returned Black Widow and Universal gave back Hulk's film rights--but not distribution rights--over the course of 6 months around the beginning of 2006. Thor and Cap (among many other IPs including the Avengers IP) had been with Marvel this entire time.
      Paramount (in the form of Iron Man, Cap, and Thor) agreed to be the distributor for marvel studios right off the bat in order to make Marvel's loans possible. Marvel was purchased by disney shortly after they released iron man and incredible hulk, but before IM 2. As avengers approached, Disney bought back Paramount's domestic distribution of Avengers and IM3 and thus cut Paramount out permanently (though they still had foreign distribution for a few more films iirc) since those movies were the end of their contract. Disney agreed to keep the paramount credit card ahead of the first avengers movie and IM3 as an act of good will toward their original film partner. In one last act, disney purchased the distribution rights for all their phase 1 movies that paramount possessed in 2013 so that all future releases of those movies were solely by disney.

      The Sam Raimi trilogy was not made by Marvel, but by Sony.
      Marvel Studios didn't exist until 2007, and Sony had bought the Spiderman rights around 1999, when Marvel Comics was struggling with going bankrupt. (they also sold movie rights to Fox- X-Men and Fantastic Four mainly; some other characters were/are at other studios, like Blade, Hulk and Ghost Rider)
      Sony is contractually obligated to make a new Spiderman movie every 3 years or lose the rights, which is why we got the Andrew Garfield movies after Sam Raimi's trilogy was done. Now they are working with Marvel and making Spider-Verse movies.

    Great reaction. This movie was really very well thought out. It was built off of Tony and Steve's arcs.
    Tony starts outside the system, in a cave, with a box of scraps. He starts as an individualist.
    Steve starts out a creation of the system. Everything special about Steve "came from a bottle." Well, we know it was what Dr. Erskin saw in Steve that matter most, "Not a good soldier but a good man."
    Over time Tony or the Stark family created the problems he was called to solve. His PTSD and his knowledge of his own flaws is pointed out in other comments. This brings Tony to where he recognizes he requires oversight from the very system to which he had rebelled.
    Cap went the other way from his start to Civil War. He saw the system as flawed and corrupt, "Agendas change." He trusted his own judgement best. He had become the individualist. and Tony was no beholden to the system.
    Team Iron Man and Team Cap where fleshed out by Kevin Feige, The Russo Brothers, the writers and the stunt team. I'm sure other's also had input. What they were trying to do is match up a combination of who would best fit the philosophy of each team and what each super heroes powerset would be and how those powersets would influence the balance of the two teams.
    The planning was done with action figures. Yes they do come in handy. The planning paid off because the teams we ended up with made sense from a philosophical sense and were evenly matched.
    The only person on either team that may seem out of place is Spider-Man. Stark target's the kid for his ability to restrain with his web and his physical strength. He can stop a 3000 lb. car at 40 miles an hour and that would be both impressive and useful in the coming fight. The webs ability to restrain would also help Tony keep injuries and damage down.
    But what about Peter's philosophy? Which side does it fit with. Tony asks Peter what motivates him, why he does what he does. Peter's answer is so ironically brilliant. " When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen? They happen because of you." The irony is this philosophy agrees with Cap. So it appears the writers made a mistake putting Peter on Team Iron Man. But did they? No. This was dramatic irony at it's finest. Brilliantly written. Brilliantly played.
    There are 5 live action Spider-Man movies outside the MCU. Tobey Maguire starred in Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. These predate the MCU. Andrew Garfield starred in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which were not accepted as part of the MCU. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was cancelled because Kevin Feige (MCU producer) and Amy Pascal (Sony producer) cut a last minute deal for a new Peter Parker/Spider-Man to be cast for the MCU. This was late in production of Captain America Civil War.
    Tom Holland came in for his audition, performed so gymnastic moves, read for the role and so impressed that they knew they had their Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
    Now that you have seen Endgame, you need to take some time to watch those 5 Spider-Man movies. They are worth watching. I think we would all agree you would enjoy them.
    I have had issues with friends myself. Hope you can iron out the issues with your friends. Keep up the great reviews.
