Vince didnt hv a great voice but he did hv a unique voice that fit Motley perfectly. Not to mention he's always been one helluva front man. Vince can work a crowd.
He is no Mark Slaugher or Warrel Dane or Bruce, Dio, Halford, neither of them is him. Cobain was on the level of dio technically speaking of vocals, though people like his songs. Motley Crue were lucky to get the right vocalist who fits the music 10 out of 10.
I thought it was super crazy when I was watching a bootleg Pantera concert from 1989, I can't believe they had cameras even before that. It must have been the size of a motorcycle
Shout at the Devil/Bark at the Moon...saw this tour Jan 21st 1984 at The old Boston Garden...I'll Never forget it...14 years old and hammerd beyond belief !!! Lived walking distance from show in Cambridge, and Definitely stumbled home after...BTW I Had a blue Ozzy painters cap Covered in Ozzy pins...my buddy threw it, and believe me, with all the weight from the pins, I swear it sailed clear across the Garden...lol If Anoybody out hear caught that cap, please post comment on story of how you got it...lmao
dwightfartschrute it's not. That's the reverb and sustain getting cranked up on that high note. Probably some kind of “space echo” as well (what it was called long ago). I was a sound guy many....many years ago.
I'm a huge Crüe fan and I'm really interested in the strange case of the Nikki Sixx doppleganger MAtthew Trippe. At first I din't believe it, but the more I get into it the more doubts I have. I've been reviewing a lot of material from '84 and '85. In that era, Nikki wore all the make up, big hair, sunglasses and full glam costume and it could be him or anyone else. But if you look closly to some videos or pictures, there are strange things. For example, in most of the pictures you can see Nikki is a big guy, as tall as Tommy, and towers above Vince. In the end of this show, at the curtain call, you can see this "Nikki" is the same heigh as Vince, and he has small shoulders. The same happens in some late Shout at the Devil and Theatre of Pain tour pics. I dunno what to think. Maybe Matthew Trippe was just an obsesed guy who created a fantasy, or maybe he indeed replaced Nikki for some shows. Some of you guys know something about it?
I see what your getting at but ive seen sooooo many crue footage that i dont think the matthew trippe thing was real. If it was i think it was maybe a couple times at most. You can see by the teeth it was all nikki. In 1985 nikki gained pretty much weight bc of his addiction and then lost a shit ton of weight in 1986 when his heroin usage became next level. I do agree that even in this video, nikki looks somewhat off, he was always a big muscular guy, here he looks somewhat puffy like Trippe. But then again. He did gained weight around these times, it was obvious in some of the Shout At The Devil interviews.
@sltwentytwo yep he used flange quite a lot, a lot of folks did at this point, setting the speed knob at zero for a comb filter effect, to notch the frequencies a bit or like this for a very slow swirl
So many people rag on Vince. He had a' Unique" voice. Most all great rock singers are this way. You need to have that and a look to be a great front man. None of these rock singers claim to be classically trained anyway.
@shoutatthedevil89 In my opinion, YES, you DID, UNFORTUNATELY, miss A LOT of TOP NOTCH Crue! In fact, NOT JUST Motley, but A LOT of "old school" rock and metal, general!
probably the only time vince sounded good live. Im a big motley fan, but there is no need for everyone to defend his voice to this day, it was never great.. he isn't a great singer, and that shows, painfully most of the time, in live performances... thing is though, motley live weren't about sounding amazing, they were about kicking ass... still, i cant imagine how much greater they would be considered had vince had a voice like steven tyler, that would be insane.
@AngelofAnguish :'( i Was Born too much late too :'(! I'm Just a Girl of 15! i Feel really bad...! I Hate my "era",.... i Hate the fact That i missed too much of this stuff..! sorry If My English Is Not Good. I'm From Mexico
And me 10 or 11 when i first time hear about this band. I was very lucky because my sister's ex-boyfriend listened to all this music and had all the LP albums and audio tapes from all of them. BIG TNX TO HIM 😁
@AngelofAnguish you may have been born in the most bullshit era of the most shittiest music cause most of it all just sucks however thank god that you had the chance to even come in contact with this music, i was runnin around in the 80's and i loved it (wish i could go back forever) but i can't so just sit back and enjoy the ride cause the ride nowadays sucks... long live 80's music, i freaking love the rough glam look like motley crue not anything like poison they just looked like drag queens
vince actually sounds good here
This guitar work is unreal
Always Johnny on the spot with his guitar. Mick was always the anchor
Vince didnt hv a great voice but he did hv a unique voice that fit Motley perfectly. Not to mention he's always been one helluva front man. Vince can work a crowd.

@@j0hn_d037 Get tf outa here cobain fanboy! Comparin cobain vocals to Dio is blasphemy
@@masterofreality5528hahahah good bro. get out cobain fanboys. this is 80s rock
Cobains songwriting outshines any hair metal band by a very wide margin, that's what matters
@@Cheezin48are you retarded or just drunk
these days vince misses two many words this is awsome
Because he’s catching his breath. 😚
0:32 ...wow...not such an easy move as it maybe seems...flawless execution👍10/10
i was 13 years old when i saw them open for ozzy on this tour, thank god i saw them when they were fucking great and vince could sing.
I was there too epic
So impressed with the sound it was on point those guys were definitely on point
Now I know what you mean by [they were on "points"] lol ...........
I wish the quality were better, but better as nothing, this is one of the best songs they ever made.
I would kill to see the Crüe in those years
It was definitely way better. I was very lucky to see them as much as I had..!!
Back in the day!!, I was like screw school, I just want to listen to Motley Crue!! LOL
nikki and the boyz are just killing this!!! love it!!!!!!
Just as good today, As it was for the first time. To Remember is quite a feeling.
so uuhhh...who managed to sneak a camera into a concert in 1984?
I thought it was super crazy when I was watching a bootleg Pantera concert from 1989, I can't believe they had cameras even before that. It must have been the size of a motorcycle
It was possible back then if you owned one
God, Vince's voice is just so fucking perfect here, for this show i would score him a 9/10, most crue shows he gets 7/10 in my opinion
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
50 lbs lighter. Lots more oxygen flowing through those lungs.
Over 100 pounds lighter actually
Doubt more oxygen do you know how much they smoked 😭
Awesome vintage CRUE 🤘
i miss those days
2:16 that moment when you forget lyrics to your own song..

Nikki’s entrance was quite grand.

This is early Mötley Crüe the greatest stuff thank you for sharing they were probably opening up for somebody was it Ozzy Osbourne?

Too bad the I-Phone wasn't created yet... so good live, this doesn't do them justice...
Would be really cool if this video could be enhanced to hd
Can't give it a thumbs up. Perfect 666.
I didn't know they'd invented canned backing vocals yet in 1984.
dwightfartschrute it's not. That's the reverb and sustain getting cranked up on that high note. Probably some kind of “space echo” as well (what it was called long ago). I was a sound guy many....many years ago.
i Really Love Nikki!!!
motley crue forever
Motley crue, the best

Dude... Vince is standing tall with his feet together, Sixx has his legs spread and knees bent to get down to the same height as him.
Man, with all respect, i think is bullshit..

Vince sounded good
Great great great!
Day b4 my 7th Bday
is it just the recording or does mars have a flange or phaser on giving his guitar a swirling sound? the crue at their best though.
Seems to be a flangered, because other live records have the same effect. Greets from Ukraine 🇺🇦
@@mekongdevil yeah pouring on the flanger on this
One person fell in love
still are!
shout at the devil tour came to hollywood , florida twice the came with ozzy it was a super shows
@sltwentytwo yep he used flange quite a lot, a lot of folks did at this point, setting the speed knob at zero for a comb filter effect, to notch the frequencies a bit or like this for a very slow swirl
yeah, his recent shows I'd rate him 3/10 as he sounds even more like a hamster, he had it down back here on this video, great performance
He was skinner and able to cary a tune better now hes bigger and as he gets bigger his voice gets worse
Motley crue has been using pre recorded back up vocals and rythmn guitar tracks live since the early days AS admitted by mars himself

Those backing vocals sound pretty awesome ;) They must not have been too young to fall in love with backing tapes.
dwightfartschrute the backing vocals? That's not hard to sing. You try it.
Sinners & Saints 3:27
@topjimmy72 a Hot Tub time machine? ;D

Yeah true. I would add his voice is a lot like Ozzys...sucky but unique. People learn the songs with that original voice.
Although the audio kinda sucks, if you look them up live at the Starwood in 1981, Vince sounds pretty good the whole show
it sounded kinda good during carnival of sins tbh
@SicSolution yea........i wish it was that easy :)
They were the shit then.
@DHRC18 That being said, Nikki scored a "perfect 10!"
@AngelofAnguish :'( i Was Born too much late too :'(! I'm Just a Girl of 15! i Feel really bad...! I Hate my "era",.... i Hate the fact That i missed too much of this stuff..!

Vince has always sucked .
Always horrible " live"
Vince could still sing here.
