    Without David Lee Roth there would never been a debut album like the first Van Halen record period. No “I’m the One”, Feel Your Love Tonight”, Ice Cream Man” etc. The DLR haters don’t get that…It was a combination of the brothers , Dave and MA. But Dave had a huge impact on the band like it or not.

      It was the perfect recipe to blow up rock and roll. It was like a new Led Zeppelin. The new Page and Plant and Bonham and JPJ.

    This isn’t true at all. Dave didn’t even want keyboards on the new album (1984). He knew the fans wanted the same formula from the previous albums.
    If Dave was so worried about being overshadowed by a guitar player he wouldn’t have hired Steve Vai after leaving Van Halen!

    I think we knew that when he left VH and popped up everywhere with his 'own band'. He made a splash--for about a year or so. But everyone got sick of him fairly quickly.

      I honestly don't think it's that people were sick of Dave. It's the simple fact that after Eat em and Smile, the songwriting started to really go downhill. On that note, I prefer Lil Ain't Enough to the over-produced Skyscaper record.

    No one can really argue this. Alex's view is Alex's view. He was there up close and personal. Was Dave driven by jealousy of the attention Eddie was getting? Who knows for sure if that's what drove him. As I remember the period Dave was always the center piece of every Video. Even the most Iconic Guitar player is still a "supporting musician" in any song with Lyrics. I do believe that Dave was simply a victim of what has been described as LSD (lead singer disorder). Dave certainly looked like a guy who was pretty seriously afflicted. Dave thought he could be an actor? I'd heard that at the time and anyone who wasn't a teen or in their 20s in the 1980s might not really appreciate how big Videos were at the time. Dave was very good at this and I bet he got enough feed back from people who made these videos to honestly believe acting was possible for him. As for Dave jealous of Eddie? Maybe but if that is part of what made his decision to leave you gotta ask why he'd start a new band with Steve Via and create the same sort of music that catapulted a near unknow Guitar player to Guitar Hero Status over night. I remember the reaction to "Eat 'Em and Smile" and the videos that promoted in on MTV. A lot of us wondered if Dave's new guitar player was even more amazing than Eddie. Time corrected that but at the time......if Dave wanted the spot light to stay on him and leave little to nothing for a Guitar player this was a pretty hard to explain way to do it. I tend to believe Dave leaving when he did was all about Dave's EGO way the hell over the top and way out of control.

      His ego is off the charts. In fact, I don't know of any celebrity or rock star with a bigger ego. I saw VH with DLR and Sammy twice for each. I liked both eras, but the Roth concerts sucked in person. He was so stinking drunk during both, but OMG, the SOB would not shut the fuck up between songs. He would ramble for several minutes about the most stupid shit ever!! But, that's Dave. No one enjoys listening to DLR talk endlessly about stupid shit more than DLR himself! I remember I took a SMOKING HOT chick to one of the concerts. All rocker chicks had a thing for DLR back in the day. He was indeed a handsome man. She wouldn't STFU the entire trip home about what a goofball Roth was!

    @joejones8689 26 дней назад

    I read that the band initially agreed to take the year off so Dave worked on his movie but the brothers later got restless and wanted to make an album. Dave also wanted Alex out of the band since Alex controlled Eddie and even threatened to beat up Dave. Alex would argue with Eddie in Dutch and they would get in fistfights. 5150 studio was also very dirty and full of booze and drugs so Dave didn't want to record there. Alex also might be engaging in projection since there are accounts of Alex being envious of his brother's fame.

      Ha! I get the joke, but Dave has money. Good money. He wasn't an EMT because he needed the money, that's for sure. He loves adventures and learning. He calls it "cross-training." Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @cryptofan6255
      @cryptofan6255 27 дней назад +1

      @@RockNewsDesk I respectfully disagree. Dave literally said in his own words once that he knows what it is like to have money then not have it. Before Sammy and Eddie gave him a second chance there were many sites putting DVR at a net worth of between one and 2 million. While all his former band mates were approaching mid 8 figures. Now most have him listed at about half of the others now that he got a second chance at accumulating wealth. I don't want to sound arrogant, but right out of college I was blessed to be hired by a Fortune 500 company that expanded rapidly during my 30 year tenure we became a Fortune 50 Company. They gave us free stock options for the first 22 years like giving away candy. I retired in my early fifties with just barely over an 8 figure portfolio. I have accumulated more in the 8 years since I retired, but if a person only has a couple of million, invests it conservatively to maintain the principal, that doesn't even bring in enough money to consider yourself upper middle class. I totally think he became an EMT as Plan B.

    "The magic was in the first years with Roth" I'm just not getting it. Millions hate Sammy and Alex says there's no magic with Sam; funny I remember the honey moon phase with Big Al and Edward just loving Sammy and even verbally saying it many times. Bottom line is ALL the Sammy haters and Big Al hating Sam, then it would have been best if VH would have just called it quits when Roth left. Since Sammy did such a shatty job, and millions hate his guts and love Roth, and it's no longer Van Halen then best thing is and should have happened after Roth left VH, they should have stopped! ...Right?! Since y'all hate Sam so much, and if VH should have continued on after Roth lol then who do you recommend replacing Roth? Fair question
    BTW saw VH with Roth 5 times and with Sam 3. Roth on thee albums was untouchable but live lol Roth sucked "I forgot the phucking words" every other song look at me look at me I just changed into a new costume and watch my gymnastics circus show, I'll even jerk off a baton and literally break my nose with blood flying everywhere because I don't know my parts. Sammy live just crushed every song never seen anything like it. Live he blew Roth away because he knew his parts. God made music to be played live, and live Sammy ruled, deal with it. I get it you hate Sammy no prob, it's because of the "studio" albums. Live folks is a whole other level and ball game. Peace

    ~~ Roth had an ego that was much bigger than his talent - yes he was a great frontman - a great MC - but he was not a great singer - I saw him live with VH 5 times. IMO he left because he figured he could put together a great solo band - and he did that with Vai - Sheehan & Bissonette - but they were real musicians who soon grew weary of DLR's antics and less than serious approach to making music. And if he figured he was going to be a movie star - he clearly figured wrong. There are good reasons why Al Pacino and Jack Nicholson never fronted rock bands - and equally good reasons why DLR was never going to make even good - much less great films. It was always his outsized ego that made him believe it could happen - sorry Dave - but leaving VH ranks among the worst career moves EVER ..
