Mr. Kiepke's passion and joy for trout fishing is precious. As is the whole of the U.P. The predator issue is very divisive. I find Dr. Belant's presentation of facts (or lack thereof) troubling. After a multi-year study there is no more concrete information other than coyotes killed 3.5% (no time reference cited of fawns) and 8.6% of does during Apr-May. What about black bears? No bears on trail cams killing deer? What other predators do deer have for us to consider? So the rest of the time the predators are eating beaver, rodents, rabbits and fowl? Also, do you really need a Ph.D to surmise it is important for deer to eat as much as they can in summer and fall to survive and procreate when spring arrives? As always, thank you for asking questions and bringing us this point of view. You work so hard and we thank you for that. God bless.
This is what happens when you spend your time in a college institution, these people who are more concerned that you call them "dr" are clueless. I feel sorry for the deer hunters in the u.p. and even worse for the deer with these people in charge of managing their population. Smh
I'm glad to see someone else using an automatic fly reel.

Of these numbers, how many were killed by coywolfs, coydogs or whatever you want to call them?
What else are the wolves eating? They’re not growing and thriving like this only on mice and squirrels. Moose and deer are the main dish
Just imagine, being a little dear eaten alive by a pack of wolves! That’s exactly what happened to them all.
