my father used to take us to see the salmon run up Bronte Creek in the late 70s and early 80s. then i took my kids when they were young. it's amazing to see.
What an incredible animal, I learned a lot watching this. The brain compass is too cool. Thanks for sharing this, it looks like you put a lot of effort into it.
So true - the issues around fishing during the salmon run are a big, tricky (interesting!) subject and probably deserve their whole own video. Also if I'm just filming the fish and gulls I don't need to worry about releases 😀
It is a nice video, but none of the salmon you are discussing (pacific type) are native to Ontario so it is an interesting discussion on the current benefits of what is actually an “invasive” species. Would be interesting to contrast this against any negatives since the introduction to Lake Ontario.
@@kingsleyzissou2356 Totally fair point - the scope of this one was pretty focused but you bring up a very important issue here. I'd love to cover that side of things in a later video.
This deserves a ton more views. I’m sure you don’t need my encouragement, but if you keep making vids like this there is no way you won’t blow up. Also where did you get your footage from? It’s all gorgeous
Thank you so much!! I've been doing a lot of 3-5 minute videos in the same vein but primarily targeted at TikTok (portrait mode etc) - this is the first longer-format video, so I really appreciate hearing that. There's more coming, they just take a while :D. I shoot all my own footage for these - part of why they take so long, but that's a big part of the joy for me, hanging out in nature to capture this stuff.
@@canadianimals216 That’s so sick, I can only imagine how long it takes to get that much great looking footage. If I were you i’d keep doing long form widescreen on youtube, then do clips on tiktok. Seems a shame to not show those clips in their full resolution. Either way, great stuff. I’ll be watching!
@@SpennyIreland For sure! It's a constant battle with formats and where things catch on. I shoot native portrait mode for a lot of stuff intending it for TikTok / instagram, but then of course it's pretty useless if I ever want to do a 16:9 video for youtube like this. But I'm trying to retool a bit, especially with the future of TikTok in flux. Anyway - inside baseball :D

I back on to the rouge it was a very good year for them-the best I have seen since I got here 15 years ago

This was great! Missed the #1 predator during the salmon run though - fishermen!

Great video! Salmon are one of my favorite fish to film
Great job!

Funny that most of the footage is from the Humber River, where there is zero succesful returns from spawning. 😂
Are these Chinook salmon?
cool
I thought this was about the ontario salmon run? This is generic lifecycle information. Why is ontario in the title?
I would assume because it is primarily filmed in Ontario?
