East Coast - One Of The Rarest Canadian Animals Under Your Feet
Burntcoat Head is a perfect place to explore the Bay of Fundy’s exposed ocean floor at low tide, and see one of its most striking geological features: sweeping red mudstone and sandstone that formed 200 million years ago. It’s also hiding one of Canada’s rarest animals, tucked into tiny almost invisible holes in the rock. Today we learn all about them, their unique evolution, and what a knife edge they’re living on.

East Coast - Everything About A Sea Star is Bizarre
Просмотров 14219 часов назад
It took way more effort than I initially expected, but at long last I found one of the most iconic creatures of the Atlantic coast: a sea star, or starfish. They’re a common, prolific species, but they - among their relatives the echinoderms - are anything but ordinary. Today we’re going to see exactly how strange sea stars are by focusing in on just one little bit of them: their incredible tub...

Because we’re going to use clutches of pink eggs and a bright orange whelk to find out how purple can be worth more than gold. If you like this series and want to support it, you can go to patreon.com/canadianimals and throw me a few bucks a month to keep...

In honour of 50 Canadianimals videos, this is a brand new update of one of our most popular episodes, with new footage and narration. If you like this series and want to support it, you can go to pa...
Why Have Geese Stopped Migrating?
Просмотров 351Месяц назад
To finish up this four-part series, we’re going to look at the poster-birds for migration: Canada Geese, who’s V-formations as they fly south are an iconic autumn sight. If you like this series and want to support it, you can go to ...
Why Don't Cardinals Migrate?
Просмотров 53Месяц назад
For the last two videos, we’ve been focused on birds who migrate long distances every year: how they do it, and why they do it. This week, we turn our attention to the birds who don’t, like the Northern Cardinal. How do they survive the harsh winters that drives other birds thousands of kilometres south, and why do they choose to stay when so many others go? If you like this series and want to ...
Why Do Birds Migrate?
Просмотров 332 месяца назад
Last time we asked HOW birds manage the biological miracle of migration. Now that we’ve wrapped our heads around that, the next question is… why? Why do birds make this incredible trip south every fall and, maybe more importantly, if everything is so much better for them down there… why do they come back every year? If you like this series and want to support it, you can go to patreon.com/canad...

I was on a fishing trip about 1 hour flight north of Kenora, Winnipeg, and saw a snapping turtle in one of the lakes we were fishing, It might have been 18 inches or so long, and very moss covered. I didn't think they made it that far north.....
