Got a couple sunsun filters myself a hw402b and hw3000.
For best results just pull all the super fine white floss out, having a little in each layer is a waste of precious media space.
On the bottom tray fill it with a couple foam filter grades (coarse, medium, fine)
Your white filters are fine or extra fine
Now your next 3 trays are free to be fully utilized for bio media.
*Budget tip* 1 40/50lb bag of lava rock from the hardware store is under $10 and just needs to be rinsed, plenty of porous surface for bacteria growth.
Additionally a pre filter sponge on your inlet fitting will prolong the time between filter service cycles, as less large gunk gets sucked in and your filter tanks longer to get clogged up enough to lower flow rate.
Additionally i recomend buying a small tube of silicone grease from the plumbing section, all your gaskets perform better and last longer with proper greasing.
Lastly, minor noise issues can be an improperly seated impeller, super simple fix just reseat it.
If that doesnt fix it a small rubber mat under the canister should fix the vibration issue.

Fantastic tips! I'll be sure to think about this when I clean out the filter, thanks!

@@LongLiveYourTurtle additionally sun sun makes the hw 602 and hw 603, which are mini canisters that can function as your sponge filters, come cleaning time just close the valves, remove the lid and rinse out your tiny lightweight sponge canister, supposedly it cuts down maintenance for the larger canister to once in just about never (6-12 months+) since nothing much gets through additionally you get the extra tray for bio media and don't have to lug the thing out.
Those mini canister come in multiple models both with and without a pump.

great video.704b is not noisy at all ,a low hum if anything in my living room ,you can forgive it for that considering the price point. Mine has been running for over a year no problems .as long as you look after and maintain the O rings etc. cheers from IRELAND.

I've noticed with a couple of the sunsun models that the noise can be from a slight improper seating of the impeller, just enough to get a wobble and that hum

Just an FYI, you can take out the part of the bracket that slides, and just use the screws to hold it against the frame without the bracket. I did that on my 304b and it fits just about perfectly on my 75 gallon marineland tank.

is this superior over the Fluval FX6?

  • @scottgordin9709

I have had the Sunsun 704b canister for almost three years now, It's an awesome filter and the for the price it can't be beat. I would compare it to the Fluval FX4 as in flow rate and the FX6 for media capacity, I have two FX6's set up and running on a 125 gallon and the water is always crystal clear. I also have a Fluval 307 set up and running on a 55 gallon Mbuna tank and I'm not that happy with it's performance, it keeps the tank clean, but I wish it had more flow as it says on the box it's good for up to 75 gallons. I've been contemplating swapping the 307 out for the 704b and using the 307 as a back up.
All in all I would definitely buy the Sunsun 704b again, but I would not buy a Fluval 07 series filter again, mainly because I can buy two 704b canisters for one 307 if being used on a bigger tank like a 75 gal and up, If it was a 29 gal up to a 55 gal I would just go with a HOB filter.

    Good review
    Canister set up
Dirty water should hit first in this order
Otherwise you have a really nice pump that does nothing but extract the heavies
You should able to get all your filters in the bottom tray coarse medium fine
Keep away from those cheap Chinese bio rings because the surface isn't porous.
    Mechanical filters
    Biological
    Chemical
Within 10 days you should see a difference in your water testing.
I have two 10in red ear terrapins and 15 fish running on a aquael 2000 max

Sorry Is not clear to me how you used the white cloth inside the 4 trays.
Do you trash it or keep each of them on the bottom of the black plastic tray?
Could be useful to put all of them in the bottom tray cover it with ceramic rings and then stack the other 3 on top just filled with ceramic rings?
I'm setting up an aquarium of about 300L gross (120*50*50cm about 47x19x19 inches) and I choose this canister filter.
I'm a newbie and trying to learn in order to provide the best possible environment for my 2yo male red slider.

I'm just curious but doesn't the UV sterilizer kill off that good bacteria that's suppose to be good for the aquarium? I'm still very new to the hobby and thinking of buying this cannister filter.

    • @Roussey88
      @Roussey88 Год назад +2

Because it’s not sterilizing the tanks surfaces or bio media. Just the water passing thru the filter. There is almost no beneficial bactieria in the water column. It’s all attached to surfaces such as your wood, rocks, substrate and filter media.

Idk man, it looks like and comes with every shitty canister filter I've ever delay with. The trays are always warped and don't lay flush. those stupid tube clamps that don't do anything , you're better off getting zip ties. The same old primer pump that doesn't do crap and you just end up shaking the thing for two days straight trying to get the air out. Same weak clamps that always break . And an o-ring that needs immediate replacement with something more durable. Threaded nuts that always crack trying to loosen them for that first cleaning ( which is when everything goes wrong ) . Probably a ceramic impeller that breaks ( so stupid) and an impeller with some strange sized magnet base that's impossible to replace unless you are slick enough to go back to the pet store , open another filter box and steal one , ( which is why I don't buy anything on line anymore because I want to know where replacement parts are ) . But now this one is special, they've added another variable, an UV light , that I'm sure will work flawlessly.
And the flow rate is rated for the amount and kind of media it comes with. Everything you add after the fact dramatically slows that flow. You'll lose a good 30% of whatever it's marketed for and put more strain on the motor and bye bye canister because you just gave it a half life .
