This is definitely a nice filter for the price. I'm using it on a 75 US gallon tank, and only run it at level 4 with a custom spray bar that runs the length of the tank. The tank houses rainbow fish, empire gudgeons, pearl gouramis, guppies (lol), Siamese algae eaters, and panda garras. I'm using the surface skimmer and I've noticed that it's very easy for the skimmer to pull in air causing the filter to constantly burp, which has led me to contemplate using the straight intake without the skimmer and purchasing a separate skimmer pump. One thing I did notice about it is that the gallons per hour does drop once it's filled...but that isn't unique to this filter. Any canister will drop once it's full of foams and media. Set it up exactly as you recommend. :)
Keep in mind that it is 3000L/h at 0 head pressure and without media in the trays! The further below the outlet you put it, the harder the impeller has to work to push the water through the pipes. This also means it will be a bit slower. Still a great filter for a decent sized tank.
The UV light is faulty on this unit , so double check that if you purchase this filter your UV light is working properly . I have two of these units and apart from that it's a good budget filter .
Richard, awesome vid i comment on this one because its the latest ,I haven't even got a tank yet but am binge watching your channel, Knowledge is power so to speak, your vids are so interesting and I love how they must help peeps like me decide.Quality mate, thank you.
I've had 4 of these for a few years now. My only issue is after a year or so, they will leak when turned off. Also the UV bulb based of my 3 month maintenance schedule last about a year. The leaking seal is an issue for sure. Alo I run em on a Reef tank and holy smoke, the filter will be full of feather dusters.
🚨🚨🚨 you forgot to put the ceramic rings in the bottom of the filter. The first time I watch on of your videos that bit of logic changed the hobby for me forever. Thank you for information you share! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
you've misfitted the pipes. At 1:04 you can see the rounded part of the screw pressing on the glass. It should go into the plastic foot you have on the other side to avoid a point loading
Indeed, especially as he's done the same on both inlet & outlet sides. I do know from my APS 2000EF that those pads are sticky when new and when you unscrew them the pad stays stuck in place. Had to tease them off so I could use them correctly
The filter is designed to have bio / coarse filtration at the bottom and polishing pad at the top. The "thick" O-ring is prone to failure and must be lubed and the head carefully refitted on service or you will have a flood. There is no way of actually knowing if the UV id working . lamp failed.
Hi wondering if you'd be able to get a review for the SUNSUN HW-5000 wanting to see how much media fits running this with no mechanical as will run a pre filter for that to maximise
Great info as always, but horrible to see you put the screws to hold the in- and outlet straight to the glas. You should have used one of the plastic brackets on the other side so the screws are not directly clamping on the glas. I hope this make sense.
I have been using this filter for about 9 months now and I really like it. Definitely quiet. I used biohome ultimate and added the biohome bacteria gel balls between the foam pads. It cycled in a couple weeks.
@@guzy08 It has been very stable at near zero every time I test it. I'm very impressed with it. The price of the biohome is high but I think it's worth it. The biohome bacteria starter balls gave the water an amber color for a few day but defiantly sped up the cycle. I left the UV light off for a month to help it get started.
@@deanw7044 Ahh ok, it's well stock. What do you think about the canister? I'm quiet doubtful of the internal digital control panel, if it's broken you can't do anything about it.
Having had two sun suns I have had to replace the baskets due to the UV light if excessively used will deteriorate the plastic spiral to the point of bypassing the mechanical filtration in the bottom tray
unavoidable.. some brands break down slower, others faster this is why people prefer having a seperate inline UV sterilizer, that way they can either just bypass the UV when its not in use or when it needs a new bulb. i wish higher end filters on some brands have the non-UV variants but its how they are justifying the "premium" price for a bigger filter. Pre-filters are cheap after all... so a bigger filter without UV will just mean less clutter. but the Controllable DC pump is a nice feature.. wish it was a feature that trickles down to cheaper filters
That can definitely be a problem when running the UV. I personally haven't found using UV necessary unless you get a bloom of cloudy water with bacteria or green algae. I have this same filter on a 75 US gallon tank and it keeps the water crystal clear without the use of UV or chemical filtration.
What a cracking piece of kit for the money! If that had fluval written on the front instant £500 price tag lol This may be what I replace my trusty old fluval 406 with when it eventually kicks the bucket. I'l keep this one in mind.
Great review I just bought this filter few days ago havent tasted it yet Im waiting for my tank which is 90x45x45 I know its probably overkill but its better more, than less, especially when you can control the flow digitaly great filter for the money and you can buy smaller bucket-like pre filter and fill it full with mechanical media and this one fill it full with bio media then you have ultra filtration it cannot get any better for tanks up to 500 litres
In the US the Biohome is sold for crazy prices on eBay and Amazon but I have no control over that - my FilterPro website has links to all the main distributors around the world and that's definitely the best source for anyone wanting to buy in a specific country. For the US the main distributor is GreatWave Engineering. www.greatwaveeng.com
A big beast of a filter. I noticed you didn't put anything in the bottom like you used to with SunSun's. Is the bottom space too tight for something like rings? Thanks!
Hi there! Great video!! Question, I have bought a 2nd hand 6ft tank, it came with this digital uv sunsun canister. I have changed the large o-ring at the top and used Vaseline, it still has a small leak. Any suggestions? Also, what's the difference between marine and freshwater biomedia?
I just ordered this filter and 5 pounds of your ultimate media. After watching this I see I have note ordered enought media. Can I run this filter with enpty trays while more media is on order. Or would I want to spread out the media in thin layers across the trays? thank you James
What other media would you recommend? Maybe seachem matrix, or pumice stone? Would love to hear you opinions on regular pumice stone in a canister. Thanks for the great video this will be my next canister filter.
this tutorial helps alot thnxxx but question what if I need to clean it, how do I disconnect the top without the water flowing out? Taps down? If someone has the manual or knows how I can download it please help, just got this filter but have no clue how to use it when it's full 😊
Hi, I’ve been searching for a pre-filter to use with my HW-3000. My understanding is that the 603 pre-filter requires a reducer for the inlet hose, reducing flow and straining the motor. I’ve stumbled upon the EW-604B which has a larger volume and fittings. Currently, it’s not available in a 120V version but I’m thinking this would be the most suitable pre-filter. Have you seen this one yet? Any chance you could do a video testing that with along with a 704B or HW-3000? Love your content and I’m also a proud Biohome Ultimate user! :-)
The EF-2 apparently does have the 18mm fittings, so I may go with that.. but a 604 with 18mm fittings would be the cats ass. I’ve looked for the replacement valves/fittings to upsize with and only can find them in 12 and 16mm.
Ben, how do you have the 604s setup.. as a primary filter on a small tank or secondary with a canister? I think a secondary with easy access to sponges and opening the canister loaded with bio media less often would be nice. Do you think that’s a pipe dream or would it be worth giving up a fraction of the flow? (it would certainly depend on the % of flow loss)
Hello...can you make a pimp my filter video on a Cascade 1500 canister filter....trying to make sure I've set it up right and how it should be working...water flow, media, filter pads, ect. I'm using biohome ultimate .
Hello, with great interest (and admiration) I watched several videos. I am currently looking for an external filter for my 120l Juwel. I saw that you are very pleased with, for example, Fluval 307 but also the much cheaper Sunsun filters (hw-302). My question is: is there really so much difference in these two extremes (except the price)? Do you have any advice for me? Keep it up! I look forward to new videos.
I pushed mine from Amazon it had a plastic cover over the digital touchscreen that is not removable so I couldn't even use the adjustments then after about 6 to 7 months of use with weekly cleaning the two latches that allow you to remove the lid are made of such low quality they cracked the housing that separated the electronics from the seal just crap.
UV folicates fine particals that would otherwise pass thru your media & sticks them together to make a bigger partical that will be filtered out. So UV first is a must, its not just for killing algae and bacteria.
@@UncalBertExcretes No idea what "folicates' mean. UV just changes DNA....does not disintegrate any particles, etc. Of course could be be 1000% incorrect, so please show links otherwise.

Just for anyone watching this for install help. In the video you can see at 1:17 that the intake and outtake are attached incorrectly. Still works this way but on the outside of the tank, those 2 screws are meant to go in the little piece with 2 holes that he has on the inside of the tank. It slides on that L bracket that he has on the inside. Just an FYI.
I noticed that too. You slide them back to touch the screw heads and that gives you more distributed load pressing against the glass, instead of a pin-point load of the end of the screws touching the glass. Makes it more sturdy.
Hello Sir, I am planning to buy the Sunsun XWA 1000U-5. Kindly guide me is the HW3000 better or the new XWA 1000-5 Sunsun. I'll buy it only once you reply. I follow you and do exactly as you say and my filtration is awesome. I am presently using 303 A Sunsun on my 260 liters tank. Many Thanks.
Help, trying to find a replacement impeller for my sunsun 703b, I assume the other impellers for 3 series are not appropriate. Can’t find a 7 series listing, will it cross with another brand, etc?
Hello Richard, I am starting setup on a new 125g aquarium for African Cichlids and I have purchased 4kg of the Biohome ultimate to be divided between two SunSun 704B canister filters. I also have about 3kg of some good quality ceramic rings with a high porosity and a bag of nylon pot scrubbers. I bought some fine/medium/course filter sponges for the 704B but they are flat and do not have the egg-crate pattern. So now for my questions: 1. Will the 4kg of Biohome Ultimate along with the rest of the filter media be enough? 2. The sponges I bought are smooth on both sides and do not have the egg crate pattern; Should I replace them with the other type? 3. After watching a number of your "Pimp My Filter" videos, I've noticed that you don't use much for chamical filtration. I've been using Purigen in my current 44g tank for a few years and I'm thinking of switching it to something else like activated carbon or chemi-pure. But after watching your videos, I'm wondering if I really need any of it. Can you please explain why you choose not to use chemical filtration in your setups?
2 questions if I may, I am looking to buy this for a 40g hex goldfish tank. 1) would you run this at 6 due to how dirty goldfish are? and 2) you said not filter pad on the top , are you still using the rule of chemical on top, I use Seachem Purigen & API Bio-Chem Zorb to help with tannings from my driftwoods and other issues. thank you for your time and love the vids been a fan for years and love the biohome ultimate
Running a 9watt uv is pointless in this filter unless flows turned right down only run 2hours per week save baskets from melting or better yet buy the eheim reflex and add canister to that so it's not in with the bio media
I'm considering this filter, as I love the amount of media it holds, and the fact that I can turn the flow down for better anaerobic colonization. My concern is the size of the hoses seems to be too big to install the prefilter. I had to change out the input lines on my 704 b in order to attach the prefilter, and that was not only a chore but I 'm constantly worrying about whether the new hoses are going to randomly pop off. Did you say these are 1 inch pipes, and would you advise trying to install a prefilter? Is there another prefilter available somewhere that has bigger nozzles?
The 704b and hw3000 have the same hose diameter 19/25mm you can buy the correct taps here they are the ef-2 www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/ef-booster-taps/
i know its a late reply but, i use a whole house water filter with 3/4 inlet/outlet as a prefilter, i did have to reduce down to a 5/8 hose because i use an external heater, but i plan on replacing the heater later. flow restriction has not been noticeable.
Great video can you help i have APS ef 2000 filter my problem is i'm getting water inside the uv sleeve can you please tell me how to stop that from happening ,the sleeve is not broken thanks.
I don't have experience of the 1000 unfortunately so that is something I can't comment on other than to say it looks like a decent filter and gets good feedback from owners in the US.
Hi Richard, I'm wondering about the UV light, does it kill all algae? I have snails in my tank and I don't want them to starve, feeding them pellets etc is futile, my goldfish eat them before any snail ever gets chance so I need some algae at least
I find having a polishing pad is perfect considering I rinse my filters once every 2 months anyway as a rule of thumb. It's not a problem. Muck in the media doesn't affect anything beneficial.
It can become a bed for a nitrate explosion in your tank if enough matter gets stuck in the filtration you may experience higher levels of nitrates and nitrites
I don't know... As I'm getting older, I'm preferring sticking to more old school/basic things. Lol the whole digital screen part on this filter scares me. I just see problems in the future. I want my filter to run 24/7. When I want it off, I just unplug it. Done. 🤷♀️ Looks like a nice filter though.... Let's see a review a year down the road on durability. 😊
I agree. Imagine putting the whole head unit in the bath tub, washing the propeller and everything with water. I don't think that it will be water resistant forever... :/
It dose run 24/7 and you can unplug it when you want it off and it doesn’t lose any settings as i have one and still works fine so theres your year down the road review ill post a vid on my RUclips channel if you want
Csaba Gémes if you put the whole head in the water to clean the impeller and it breaks thats your problem as the impeller comes out and your not supposed to put the head in water on any canister filter.
@@wardraven8755 I understand it will run 24/7 if you want it to and it will turn off if you unplug it. Lol my question is durability with the digital part of it. My personal experience with newer washer, dryers, refrigerators, Ect with new digital options, they seem to break more. Not trying to down talk this canister. Hope it's a good one!
Why you don’t said nothing about the capacity of this filter ? Sunsun 3000 is for what aquarium capacity ? 100 gallons ? 50 gallons ? 500 gallons ? you don’t said anything
It is in the video description and pinned comment - it easily holds 5kg of media and that makes it suitable for tanks of up to 500 litres for a normal stock or up to 250 litres for a heavy stock And I also run through that in the video from 11:55
I mention that in the video description and pinned comment and also go into depth about the recommended tank size / stock for this filter in the video from 11:55 - in litres and gallons. As it easily holds 5kg of media it would be suitable for tanks up to 500 litres with normal stock and up to 250 litres for heavy stock (for a full cycle).
how do you know the uv light is really on or working I replaced mine when the hrs were up and I dont think the new bulb is working. I dont see any improvement in the tank with the new bulb. Can I plug it in while the lid is off to see if the light goes on?
Yes as the water passes over it it will kill bacteria but the light doesn't shine onto the media which holds the vast majority of the bacteria in the system.
Do you see a benefit to adding a sunsun 603 prefilter canister to this filter. I have found that the fittings on the 603 are on 1/2 and the fittings and tubing on the hw-3000 is 3/4 so it will reduce the flow of the 3000 when you have to modify it to connect them together. I was told that you could get valves for the 603 that will accept a 3/4 inch hose but i can not find them.
You can use them on both fresh and marine but it is more important for marine to strip the protein out of the water so that the water surface(meniscus) is as thin a possible for best gaseous exchange between water and air.

WHAT IS A FULL CYCLE?
*If someone tells you the aquarium nitrogen cycle ends with the production of nitrate that is incorrect - please read on*
A full cycle is completed by bacteria - the aerobic part of biological filtration which processes ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate followed by an anaerobic part which processes nitrate into soluble nitrogen which bubbles off to the atmosphere.
Therefore it requires a suitable amount of excellent quality filter media to be able to provide the environment for both aerobic AND anaerobic bacteria - that is what Biohome ultimate does perfectly but even with such good media there are limitations and we recommend the following amounts for different stocking scenarios:
(1 US gallon = 3.8 litres)
(1kg = 2.2 lbs)
Average community tropical aquarium = 1kg per 100 litres
Average coldwater aquarium = 1kg - 1.5kg per 100 litres
Predator aquarium = 1.5kg - 2kg per 100 litres
Large cichlid aquarium = 1.5kg - 2kg per 100 litres
Malawi / Tanganyikan aquarium = 1.5kg - 2kg per 100 litres
Marine aquarium = 1.5kg - 2kg per 100 litres
Average mixed fish pond = 1kg per 200 litres
Average koi pond = 1kg per 150 litres
You may be disagreeing with the above figures but remember that they are for a FULL CYCLE not half a job - achieving 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite is quite easy since aerobic bacteria grows freely on any surface but the anaerobic bacteria responsible for COMPLETING the cycle needs more a specialized habitat.
Size a filter properly, set it up sensibly and you will have perfect water - it's that simple....and your filter won't be the dreaded 'Nitrate factory'.

One thing I did notice about it is that the gallons per hour does drop once it's filled...but that isn't unique to this filter. Any canister will drop once it's full of foams and media. Set it up exactly as you recommend. :)
Good day Richard,
Great video as always, enjoyed it, thanks for sharing and greetings from New Zealand.
Nice to have you back
Keep in mind that it is 3000L/h at 0 head pressure and without media in the trays! The further below the outlet you put it, the harder the impeller has to work to push the water through the pipes. This also means it will be a bit slower. Still a great filter for a decent sized tank.
i was going to buy and send you this filter but you were faster ;) thank you for another great one video.
same lol
I this is the filter I’ve decided on for my 75gal. Thanks for the video!
The UV light is faulty on this unit , so double check that if you purchase this filter your UV light is working properly . I have two of these units and apart from that it's a good budget filter .
I just changed my bulb and I dont think the new bulbs is working. What is faulty with yours? What did you do about it?
You should try to set up a canister with pumice stone, I’ve set up my sun sun with it and it works great, thanks for the great videos it really helps
you've misfitted the pipes.
At 1:04 you can see the rounded part of the screw pressing on the glass. It should go into the plastic foot you have on the other side to avoid a point loading
I noticed that too, strange oversight for someone so used to setting up filters
Awesome review decision made 3000 it is
Bought mine for 130.00 US dollars love this filter
Great info as always, but horrible to see you put the screws to hold the in- and outlet straight to the glas. You should have used one of the plastic brackets on the other side so the screws are not directly clamping on the glas. I hope this make sense.
The screws are plastic
Sunsuns aren't bad filters at all. I chose fx6 over this but I'm prolly gonna pick one up later this year for a back up
I’m surprised there isn’t a canister filter with both UVC and Heater built in, that would be awesome 👍
Pretty sure there is and im sure hes set one like that up
A canister with an internal heater would be awesome!
I have been using this filter for about 9 months now and I really like it. Definitely quiet. I used biohome ultimate and added the biohome bacteria gel balls between the foam pads. It cycled in a couple weeks.
Hi Dean, how's your nitrate after using those media in this filter?
@@guzy08 It has been very stable at near zero every time I test it. I'm very impressed with it. The price of the biohome is high but I think it's worth it. The biohome bacteria starter balls gave the water an amber color for a few day but defiantly sped up the cycle. I left the UV light off for a month to help it get started.
@@deanw7044 Good to hear that. May I know what's your stock and wc schedule?
@@guzy08. 56 gallon community tank. 2 Mollys, 2 platies, 2 swords, 2 kissing gouramis, pleco, weather loach, golden loach, 4 glow tetras, 2 zebra loach . 50 % water change once a month.
@@deanw7044 Ahh ok, it's well stock. What do you think about the canister? I'm quiet doubtful of the internal digital control panel, if it's broken you can't do anything about it.
Don't you "hello welcome back " Me .Where the hell have you been .been missing my pondguru uploads lol
It would be awesome if sunsun made heater also in the canister filter and you can choose instead of uv, heater bulb they should do that
Its an Excellent filter ..I'm using this ...Now Pongruru makes even better...
Having had two sun suns I have had to replace the baskets due to the UV light if excessively used will deteriorate the plastic spiral to the point of bypassing the mechanical filtration in the bottom tray
unavoidable.. some brands break down slower, others faster
this is why people prefer having a seperate inline UV sterilizer, that way they can either just bypass the UV when its not in use or when it needs a new bulb.
i wish higher end filters on some brands have the non-UV variants but its how they are justifying the "premium" price for a bigger filter.
If that had fluval written on the front instant £500 price tag lol
This may be what I replace my trusty old fluval 406 with when it eventually kicks the bucket. I'l keep this one in mind.
Good stuff! I have been waiting for a review on this one. Bought one a few months ago for 75g setup have yet to instal it.
I’ve read that turning uv on and off significantly reduces the life span of the tube..
Im about to setup 2 704B’s exactly like this👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Informative video. Thank you!
Thank you for this great video!
Thank you for putting the trays in wrong. I do it every time and now I don't feel so stupid. great job
There is a round sticker in the bottom of the sump to show you where the hole in the baskets goes.
Another Great video,, just got mine for a 125, keep them coming my friend
Sunsun are great filters but the hw5000 is pure rubish
May i know how do we know the hw 3000 UV light is blow? Does the display indicator show? Or how do we check it? Many thanks.
What do you think about lava rock for bio?
Looks like a great filter. I thought the trays were similar to the Sunsun 704 so it's strange that it takes more media!
The trays are huge.
Same trays and they are interchangeable 😁
If you buy the filter media directly from the source it’s much much cheaper just a tip
In the US the Biohome is sold for crazy prices on eBay and Amazon but I have no control over that - my FilterPro website has links to all the main distributors around the world and that's definitely the best source for anyone wanting to buy in a specific country. For the US the main distributor is GreatWave Engineering.

Can you do a pimp my filter on the new sun sun hw-5000 please I have bought 2 if them and would like to run them at peak performance
A Quite good Filter for the money
Nice video as always can you do a freshwater sump video please so time thanks
The pump on this aquarium filter is as powerful as my small grow-on pond pump.....
Is that good or bad?
A big beast of a filter. I noticed you didn't put anything in the bottom like you used to with SunSun's. Is the bottom space too tight for something like rings? Thanks!
Sorry, man just seen this now, yes the space was very small in the bottom of this one so no room for any rings.
I just bought a SUNSUN HW3000 last month I was able to get rings in the bottom. Maybe it’s updated design?
Ah man filter outa stock just went to buy it there
Been out of stock a while, they were available last year but cant find one anywhere, there was one in Germany but was double the price! No thank you
Do you think the flow seems slower because of the size of the hoses they put on there?
How much water does it hold ? For example the sunsun 2000 holds 20 liters
i have been running this filter for a few months now,got it from ebay
this tutorial helps alot thnxxx but question what if I need to clean it, how do I disconnect the top without the water flowing out?
I've got two 604 prefilters. The fittings are exactly the same as the other prefilters so will still reduce the flow.
Maybe you can try the All Pond Solutions EF-2 filter booster, the inlets and outlets (Openings) are 18 mm / 0,7". I think the 603 are smaller ?
The EF-2 apparently does have the 18mm fittings, so I may go with that.. but a 604 with 18mm fittings would be the cats ass. I’ve looked for the replacement valves/fittings to upsize with and only can find them in 12 and 16mm.
All the prefilters have the same fittings. They unscrew to reveal smaller fittings, so either way you'll be hugely restricting the flow.
U can buy two 302 for the price of the fluval 307
I pushed mine from Amazon it had a plastic cover over the digital touchscreen that is not removable so I couldn't even use the adjustments then after about 6 to 7 months of use with weekly cleaning the two latches that allow you to remove the lid are made of such low quality they cracked the housing that separated the electronics from the seal just crap.
UV should really be after all other filtering stages are done, not from initial input with the dirtiest water
UV folicates fine particals that would otherwise pass thru your media & sticks them together to make a bigger partical that will be filtered out. So UV first is a must, its not just for killing algae and bacteria.
@@UncalBertExcretes Please define "folicate". Cannot find that word in the English language.
@@haulinashe Already did mate read the post.
@@UncalBertExcretes No idea what "folicates' mean. UV just changes DNA....does not disintegrate any particles, etc. Of course could be be 1000% incorrect, so please show links otherwise.
@@UncalBertExcretes Folicate ? Only reference I can find to "Folicate" is a handful of references to vitamin tablets and a user who likes streaming Ed Sheeran

I’m using two of these on my 125g. Both full of biohome ultimate. No problems thus far. Richard...ok set up?
I have no idea unfortunately - surely companies selling their filters will be able to get their spares?
Hello Richard, I am starting setup on a new 125g aquarium for African Cichlids and I have purchased 4kg of the Biohome ultimate to be divided between two SunSun 704B canister filters. I also have about 3kg of some good quality ceramic rings with a high porosity and a bag of nylon pot scrubbers. I bought some fine/medium/course filter sponges for the 704B but they are flat and do not have the egg-crate pattern. So now for my questions:
Hey ,could you please help me … how to change display language Chinese to English??
Google Translate
How do you know the sun sun hw 3000 UV light is blow? Any indication or check?
In the US they come with media balls for one tray
Only if you buy it with them
War Draven got mine off amazon
I’m running a fluval 207,and have a new pennplax 1000,new in box,your thoughts on the 1000. Cheers🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Would this be any good for 250 litre ?
I find having a polishing pad is perfect considering I rinse my filters once every 2 months anyway as a rule of thumb. It's not a problem. Muck in the media doesn't affect anything beneficial.
It can become a bed for a nitrate explosion in your tank if enough matter gets stuck in the filtration you may experience higher levels of nitrates and nitrites
I goona think to buy this model..sir can you explain me please that uv sterilizer can jill beneficial bacteria?
Hi can i ask question, is your sunsun hw 3000 display always ON, i dont know how to turn it on standy mode
Hello! Does it makes so much noise for putting it in my study room? It would be inside a piece of furniture. Thanks!
Hi we’re would chemical media go please ? Regards
In any system chemical media would go last as the filtration process would always run in this order: Mechanical to Biological to Chemical.
I set up my 304-B according to your video with media added underneath the bottom tray. Is that an option/recommended for the 3000 as well?
The way you have screwd the screw on glass is wrong
I don't know... As I'm getting older, I'm preferring sticking to more old school/basic things. Lol the whole digital screen part on this filter scares me. I just see problems in the future. I want my filter to run 24/7. When I want it off, I just unplug it. Done. 🤷♀️ Looks like a nice filter though.... Let's see a review a year down the road on durability. 😊
I agree. Imagine putting the whole head unit in the bath tub, washing the propeller and everything with water. I don't think that it will be water resistant forever... :/
Not to mention that the uv glass could break easily if you snap it to something...
It is in the video description and pinned comment - it easily holds 5kg of media and that makes it suitable for tanks of up to 500 litres for a normal stock or up to 250 litres for a heavy stock
And I also run through that in the video from 11:55
I mention that in the video description and pinned comment and also go into depth about the recommended tank size / stock for this filter in the video from 11:55 - in litres and gallons.
As it easily holds 5kg of media it would be suitable for tanks up to 500 litres with normal stock and up to 250 litres for heavy stock (for a full cycle).
Can you do the marineland magniflow 360?
Can I use this on a nano tank?
Lowest settung in all setup?
I want an overkill 18 gallon tank? Is that possible?
how do you know the uv light is really on or working I replaced mine when the hrs were up and I dont think the new bulb is working. I dont see any improvement in the tank with the new bulb. Can I plug it in while the lid is off to see if the light goes on?
Quick question. Doesn't the UV light kill the bacteria?
Yes as the water passes over it it will kill bacteria but the light doesn't shine onto the media which holds the vast majority of the bacteria in the system.
Does a uv Richard kill diatoms ?
What do u think of purigen?
Where would you put purigen in this filter?
Do you see a benefit to adding a sunsun 603 prefilter canister to this filter. I have found that the fittings on the 603 are on 1/2 and the fittings and tubing on the hw-3000 is 3/4 so it will reduce the flow of the 3000 when you have to modify it to connect them together. I was told that you could get valves for the 603 that will accept a 3/4 inch hose but i can not find them.
www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/ef-booster-taps/ ef-2 tap
what is the IN and OUT diameter of the hose ? thank you
It is approx. 19mm / 3/4"
Is a surface skimmer necessary on a freshwater tank or is it mainly for marine?
You can use them on both fresh and marine but it is more important for marine to strip the protein out of the water so that the water surface(meniscus) is as thin a possible for best gaseous exchange between water and air.
