I have the steps here: 1.) get your first starter 2.) save the game 3.) Start a new file 4.) do save corruption (reset the game right after the Yes/No window closed) 5.) if it failed, follow steps 1-4 again 6.) if it worked, get your new starter 7.) do steps 1-4 again 8.) do this till you have all starters I know, this is complicated.
These are the instructions: 1. Get first starter and save 2. Start a new file and turn off game right between when you choose “yes” to deleting old file and “saving...” 3. Turn it back on and If it says the old file has been destroyed redo 1-2 4. If no text appears continue game and check if you have the starter 5. If you don’t redo 1-2 6. If you do get another starter 7. Do 2 again 8. If you don’t have any Pokemon restart from 1 9. If work u should have two pokemon already and get your last pokemon Btw the two pokemon which u got from glitching won’t be in your Pokédex but the evolved forms will so use ditto glitch if u want them in Pokédex. Also they will only obey you until they’re level 10 until u beat Misty Hope I helped!

Finally managed it on the 3DS. Greatest success seemed to be when instead of immediately pausing after confirming to overwrite the previous save, and rapidly tapping to pause/unpause play until yes/no disappears, I would just pause it a split second after confirming the save. I also had text speed as fast, not sure if that makes a difference but combined I seemed to go from a 1/10 success to a 1/3 making consecutive attempts a lot more likely. Good luck and keep at it, you'll eventually get it, now I'm away off for some nostalgia with the 3 starters.
TBH when I first saw this I called bullshit but having tried it on the 3DS digital copy of Pokemon blue, it worked and took like 20-30 mins. Did find the description a bit unclear re one point tho. Trick is once u've got ur first starter picked and save reset, start a new game and go through opening texts and once u appear in ashes room, choose save and it will prompt u re: overwrite y/n as soon as you hit "A" on "Yes" double tap the 2DS/3DS touch screen heavily to ensure it picks u up (if uv timed it right the yes/no box will have disappeared but the text box re overwrite will still be intact with all text). Reset and choose continue and boom ur in ashs room with the starter u previously picked. Delighted and surprised this actually worked. Where was this when I was a kid?!
Laetitian Madhatter “cheat codes. “ what is this, 1993? This method works with legitimate copies of the game on 3DS, not needing a game shark or any such nonsense
You know what it is? It’s 6:14-6:19 that’s confusing because in this gap, you can’t follow what he’s doing with the save and shutoffs. Specifically there’s jump cut where the player is in his house but then he’s in oaks lab without visual explanation. It’s hard to follow and line up what he’s done and where he is in his own step guide in the description.
There's no way to follow this thing. Totally messed up the video with the sped up resets, correcting mistakes (I think), or whatever the hell happened at 3:51 - 4:08 and 6:04 - 6:23. How far is your 2 frames anyway. When you're at home and walked 1 step, in computer programming that was actually around 4 frames. (1) Starting frame looking forward, (2) turn, (3) step once, (4) gather both feet.
I did this on the Pokémon red virtual console. It’s pretty easy. Do all the usual stuff and then pick your starter. Then make a new file. Then, save in your room, and repeatedly press the bottom screen on the 3ds to pause the game. If you pause at the right time, then the yes/no box will be gone but the text box saying it will overwrite will still be there. Make a new save and boom, you have that charmander/squirtle/bulbasaur. If you did the glitch, the Pokémon you glitched in will not listen to you since it’s considered as a trade
I really just want to see the part where you do this and it works.. god.. why did you leave the failures in there? I'm copying along and then we both fuck up lmao
now my save on pokemon red on the virtual console is corrupted and I wanted to do this trick again, found this SAME video and now my comment ... guess what
WARNING IT WORKS BUT... I've tried this on the latest digital blue version copy on the 2DS XL. It works however your first two pokemon, whom ever you choose first, are considered a traded pokemon. This means after a certain level if you don't have the required number of badges for a traded pokemon, they will disobey you in battle. Your Third choice pokemon after doing this glitch is considered your gift or true starter pokemon, so they will obey you regardless how high their power level to your badge count ratio. Gift or caught pokemon will always obey you regardless.
Lol that's what I said... Wish he spoke throughout it so I could get a better understanding of what he was doing... Just looked like it kept crashing .:
Can’t believe this actually working omg omg OMG timing is perfect, when you’re saving the file which you haven’t chosen your Pokémon before the text even fades you must have reset or in my case turned off your gameboy and boom it works like magic wtf?!?!?!?!
This is actually a great guide! I got the File is destroyed message and now I'm actually feeling confident that I know what I'm doing >~< if only i had better timing to get two milliseconds
It should work. The save states just make it easier if you mess up to not have to restart the process from the beginning. NERD SPEAK: I think this requires frame perfect or near frame perfect input but it may be easier than that (frame perfect meaning a button has to be pressed during a certain window of time about a 16 milliseconds long the actual window might be longer than this but that is worst case). Not only this but it requires you to do it at least 3 times from the look of the video (it might have been 4 or 5 I didn't completely follow what happened). Save states means that if you do it perfectly the first and second times then you don't have to restart the process if you fail the third try.
Okay guys it’s pretty straight forward and easier than you think just don’t overcomplicate it you can do it on your very first try it’s all about timing if you’re not getting it just keep trying I found you have to reset it right when the yes and no panel disappears
I've actually tried this in the Japanese version, and it worked, although when I have to reset at the right time, unlike yours, I had to wait until all the Japanese text has fully appeared, and as soon as the last word arrived then I reset and It worked perfectly.
I tried this with an Analouge Pocket but unfortunately right after the yes/no-dialogue "saved" appears. Did this dozen of times. There is no on/off-switch so i pull the cartridge out of the gameboy. Sometimes the savegame is damaged but i never get the Pokemon. Is the hardware "too fast"? Or isn't it allowed to give my character a individual name (of course always the same one) ? Maybe someone knows something..
Although you get the other starters using this method they won’t be registered into the Pokédex. Just progress through game ditto glitching the special stats for the other starters. 2 Pokémon to accomplish this: Kadabra and Underflowed lvl 100 Blastoise Kadabra special can reach 153 (Bulbasaur) and 177 (Squirtle). Lvl 100 Blastoise is by luck and if it’s not use Alakazam (176 charmander).
Doesn't this glitch make it impossible to make it passed Viridian City, then? Because in the first generation of Pokémon games, if you were to so much as evolve any of your Starter Pokémon, the game reads it like you already obtained the Pokedex, so instead of handing him Oak's Parcel and proceeding with the game, he'll simply check your Pokedex and rate it. Edit: I completely forgot that the game will not count the other two Starters you have gotten as "captured" per se, just like in Gen 2 when you can perform a similar glitch much more easily (the difference is that you clone the Pokémon into your PC and then start again from where you last saved your game--that, and you can at least breed those other Starters back into your team when you're through).
Actually there is an advantage to doing this in Yellow, being that you can get two Pikachu, one of which is treated as an outsider and thus you can evolve it into Raichu, something otherwise not possible.
yikes, so it IS possible on the 3ds VC but your save file can be corrupted at any step of this glitch? even if you already have 2 of the starters and you have to start from the beginning? that's awful
It's to show that you can do it on the original hardware I suppose, rather than just using a cheat code for them which aren't widely available for people who want the real GB experience
Im on an original Gameboy and I’ve been trying this for around an hour and I was wondering if this works on the original system and not just through emulation.
If anyone has the actual original cartridge plus a transfer pak, N64, and the game Pokemon Stadium 2, after linking your game data to the N64 all you need to do is select a starter, go do oak' s parcel so you can get pokeballs, catch literally anything else (like pidgey or rattatta) then save game and go to Pokemon Stadium 2 N64 storage, where you can proceed to store your chosen starter. You have to catch the other because Stadium won't let you have no Pokemon in your party. Once you do this with the rattatta or whatever in your party you're free to start a new game and choose another starter. Get the same distance in with catching another Pokemon, save and erase old file, store the second starter in the N64, start a new game, choose third starter, and save before fight with Gary. Go to the N64 and withdraw your other 2 starters, along with anything else you like, and proceed to battle Gary. Same effect, all 3 starters! And two of them will be boosted exp.
A separate note, it is also possible to store items into the N64 as well, including glitch- induced items. So if you perform the missingno glitch with master ball set to the sixth slot in your party, don't do anything file corrupting like battling it, just fight it and get out with the duplication, you can store all your master balls in the N64. Why is this important you ask? Because Pokemon Stadium 2 allows trades and works with Gen 2, enabling you to transfer all your master balls from missingno to a gold or silver save file -- a game that doesn't normally have access to that glitch. I'm sure there are other crazy shenanigans possible, of course. But if you ever wished missingno worked for gen 2 the same way as for gen 1... never fear because provided the same item appears in both games you can totally do it
3:57 pokemon red featuring onix! Nvm it doesnt work. Basicly the title screen swaps through the pokemon rly quikly for some reason. Probably because its a emulator.
Nice commentary easy to follow with you explaining in such detail how to do this gonna get all my friends to subscribe I'll even send a personal messege to the world leaders to get subscribing to keep up the good work btw wondering what mic you use the sound is soo crisp
It could mess up the game cartridge, (It's almost guaranteed to mess up the game save you're playing because that's how the glitch is accomplished) but it won't do anything to the gameboy.
But as I can see, the other two starter are not registered to the Pokédex. The same happens in Gold and Silver, where the duplication glitch when depositing the starter in the PC and then get the other two. The last one you get is not registered, and to obtain it you should breed an egg.
Heya there, by any chance, does this Glitch/Trick also happen to work with Pokemon Blue, too? I only have the 3DS Pokémon Blue, Red and Pokémon Yellow 3DS Emulators, so. Hope that shouldn’t be a problem? XD;
What do you mean by "then reset the emulator (or Game Boy) about 2 frames in"? (In the Description.) can you give an explanation and a time stamp of just before this part where the step occurs?
Thanks, it works. But I messed up the second time and erased it. Now I have to start over... I will get all 3! Edit: I got all 3 a few more tries. I did it on the 3DS. As soon as you click yes to overrite the file, hit the touchscreen. If you can still see the yes/no box, hit the touchscreen two more times really fast to go back to the game and back the VC menu. Do this until the YES No box goes away, but the other text screen is still up. That's the timing you want. It has to be RIGHT AFTER the yes text box goes away. Where was this trick growing up?
@@samiboii9930 Obviously you messed up. Just keep trying. You want the exact frame the yes no box disappeared but the other text box is up. Keep opening and closing the virtual console menu on the touchscreen to advance frames at a time.
Has anyone else completed this with an actual game boy instead of an emulator because I'm trying to get it on a game boy and basically the only way to reset is turning the game boy off because when you soft reset with a Gameboy you use a b start and select at the same time and it won't actually reset if it is currently saving so when you are trying to reset while saving you have to turn it off and it hasn't been successful so I'm wondering if anyone has tried with a game boy and it worked
If I remember from playing, Boulder Badge - Pokemon under lvl 20 obey. Cascade Badge - Pokemon under lvl 30 obey. Thunder Badge - Pokemon under lvl 40 obey. You get the idea.
Christophee1987 That's true. Don't forget that the only pokemon that has the same Secret ID as you is the last one you picked. The other 2 are from previous saves, which means different Trainer IDs
you cant do it with the fossils, you can only use the ditto glitch to summon whatever pokemon you want, which in case you can summon any of the fossil and ancient pokemon.
Does anyone else have the issue that the file gets destroyed too often? Is that just part of the whole thing that it's going to happen more often than not?
Too bad this glitch is virtually impossible to pull off on the 3DS.However, if you give your player character the right name, you can make all three starters spawn on the eastern Cinnabar Island coastline thanks to the Old Man glitch. Not only that, but since their levels would be extraordinarily high, all you need to do is give each of them a single rare candy to help them evolve once, and then get their experience to underflow to level 100 so they can fully evolve.
Wouldnt this softlock the game? If you have more than 1 pokemon registered the game will think you have a pokedex and when you give oak the parcel you dont recieve one therefore the passed out guy is still blocking the area
It never registers the new pokemon as "caught" since you just recieve it and they won't show up in your pokedex when you do get one. You'll have to use dittos later in the game to breed them to add to the pokedex
I tried it many times and need to conclude this is bullshit. On a GameBoy Color the soft reset will not respond during saving. No matter which time you soft reset. The game only respond to the reset at the moment the first character appears from the message that confirms the succesfull save.
Good news. This works on the Nintendo 3DS emulation version! It's tricky since you dont have save states, but the trick is to rapidly tap the touch screen the moment you hit yes to save. When you touch the touch screen, you will see two options saying restart and resume. Also, it will freeze the game once you're in this menu. With that in mind, after you say yes for saving the game, you want to rapidly tap the touch screen until the text box showing "yes, no" disappears. I assume that it is gone once you freeze the game. The last step is to tap the lower screen twice. This step is to ensure that you are not too early when saving and not too late. It sucks that the first two starters that you get are not recorded on your pokedex until the evolve, but that's what having an older brother with yellow version is for lol.
+rickey4567 Do you do it at the point where it warns you that it will overwrite your saved data, or do you wait until you confirm that you'd like the previous data to be saved over?
+rickey4567 can you please helpe me? do I have to press a button (YES) and at the same time touch the lower screen or do I have to press the button and the touch the screen. No matter how many times I try, it won't work. Also I wanted to ask, have you done it?
The moment it asked me if i wanted to save, overwriting the previous file. I hit yes. Once I selected yes, at the same time, I hit the touch screen. You have to keep freezing and unfreezing the screen. Do this until the text box saying "yes" and "no" goes away. I guarantee to you it works.
I have the steps here: 1.) get your first starter 2.) save the game 3.) Start a new file 4.) do save corruption (reset the game right after the Yes/No window closed) 5.) if it failed, follow steps 1-4 again 6.) if it worked, get your new starter 7.) do steps 1-4 again 8.) do this till you have all starters
I wish you could do this in the GBA version. I have Fire Red but I can't find my Leaf Green and I don't think you can trade using an emulator. Also, those carts are effing expensive.
sameer chowdhury I meant the process of getting it to work. Like the step by step he gives us is not entirely accurate. I found that it has to be the second frame after you hit yes to save when you have to reset. Not within two frames. Literally only the second frame. And the game runs at 15 or so and fluctuate. It's really a challenge.
what I did was have a mates game boy and just start the game choose one trade it over and repeat until I'd traded over 2 of each so when I properly started the game he'd just trade back so we both had all 3. took a while but that's what I did

I believe it's a Japanese only glitch.
I was just about to ask if this could be done in yellow as well... it then I realized.
Mason Panosh you already get three starters during the game anyways
Actually there is an advantage to doing this in Yellow, being that you can get two Pikachu, one of which is treated as an outsider and thus you can evolve it into Raichu, something otherwise not possible.
I've tried to do this glitch several times on my gba but no luck.
Can you get more starter Pokemon? (The three kanto starters)
yikes, so it IS possible on the 3ds VC but your save file can be corrupted at any step of this glitch? even if you already have 2 of the starters and you have to start from the beginning? that's awful
Charmander and Bulbasaur won't obey, do I have to get the second badge in order for them to?
PokeMario100 same, Did they obey you?
They'll only obey up to level 10 until you get the second badge, then it goes up to 30.
Every new game resets the trainer ID. The first two starters are essentially traded Pokémon.
PBTHHHH
If you're using an emulator why not just use the gameshark cheat for all 3?
+Dustin Hayes what fun is that?
It's to show that you can do it on the original hardware I suppose, rather than just using a cheat code for them which aren't widely available for people who want the real GB experience
There isnt one
But if you ever wished missingno worked for gen 2 the same way as for gen 1... never fear because provided the same item appears in both games you can totally do it
Thank
3:57 pokemon red featuring onix!
Nvm it doesnt work. Basicly the title screen swaps through the pokemon rly quikly for some reason. Probably because its a emulator.
Nice commentary easy to follow with you explaining in such detail how to do this gonna get all my friends to subscribe I'll even send a personal messege to the world leaders to get subscribing to keep up the good work btw wondering what mic you use the sound is soo crisp
I smell saltcasm. I agree though. This was really hard to follow. Would've liked some additional explaining.
It wasn’t really meant to be a tutorial BTW
Deutsche he didnt have to do this for yall
Does this have any bad effects on the game-boy console? Speaking, would it do anything bad if you turn it off during the game like you have done so?
no
Yeah if you switch it off on the wrong frame the battery will actually consume itself and possibly badly burn your hands.
It could mess up the game cartridge, (It's almost guaranteed to mess up the game save you're playing because that's how the glitch is accomplished) but it won't do anything to the gameboy.
how do you reset the game does that mean you turn it off with the power switch on the bottom left corner of the device that Game Boy Advance?
am I the only one who doesn't understand what hes doing???
You've had three years to read the description. Did you figure it out by now?
Nice...
But as I can see, the other two starter are not registered to the Pokédex. The same happens in Gold and Silver, where the duplication glitch when depositing the starter in the PC and then get the other two. The last one you get is not registered, and to obtain it you should breed an egg.
Heya there, by any chance, does this Glitch/Trick also happen to work with Pokemon Blue, too? I only have the 3DS Pokémon Blue, Red and Pokémon Yellow 3DS Emulators, so. Hope that shouldn’t be a problem? XD;
J’essaye depuis 1h sans y arriver …
What do you mean by "then reset the emulator (or Game Boy) about 2 frames in"? (In the Description.) can you give an explanation and a time stamp of just before this part where the step occurs?
Imagine 2 frames as 2 miliseconds
Eh?
So as soon as it says "saving" you turn that sucker off ?
Abraham Cordova Ye, or a bit earlier.
When do you reset if using an emulator? It doesn't work for me..
If you see now saving it’s too late. If you reset before the yes/no has disappeared, or right after it disappeared, it’s too early
Everytime when I try it just said that my save file was destroyed. Does I do anything wrong?
@@samiboii9930 Obviously you messed up. Just keep trying. You want the exact frame the yes no box disappeared but the other text box is up. Keep opening and closing the virtual console menu on the touchscreen to advance frames at a time.
Now it works. Lol :p
@@samiboii9930 Cool, glad to hear!
new philmz 👍
Has anyone else completed this with an actual game boy instead of an emulator because I'm trying to get it on a game boy and basically the only way to reset is turning the game boy off because when you soft reset with a Gameboy you use a b start and select at the same time and it won't actually reset if it is currently saving so when you are trying to reset while saving you have to turn it off and it hasn't been successful so I'm wondering if anyone has tried with a game boy and it worked
It looks like you reset and all that a bunch of times.. Can you explain?? Like am I clicking of continue or new game every time you reset?
The two non-starter Pokémon are not obeying me when I battle trainers on Route 3 and 4 and I just got the Boulder Badge
If I remember from playing,
Boulder Badge - Pokemon under lvl 20 obey.
Cascade Badge - Pokemon under lvl 30 obey.
Thunder Badge - Pokemon under lvl 40 obey.
You get the idea.
03bgood did they obey?, cause mine are not
The boulderbadge doesn't make outsiders obey, so they'll only obey up to level 10. The cascadebadge makes outsiders up to level 30 obey.
Christophee1987 That's true. Don't forget that the only pokemon that has the same Secret ID as you is the last one you picked. The other 2 are from previous saves, which means different Trainer IDs
Can you do this with other choices like the fossils on Mt. Moon?
not the fossils :(
you cant do it with the fossils, you can only use the ditto glitch to summon whatever pokemon you want, which in case you can summon any of the fossil and ancient pokemon.
Get two gameboys and two red or blues. Take the different fossil on each then use trade wite
Can I see this being done with actual hardware? It's not easy to see what's happening with cuts and speed-ups...
How does it work again? Got the red version back and hoping to try it.
Does anyone else have the issue that the file gets destroyed too often? Is that just part of the whole thing that it's going to happen more often than not?
Is this possible with the downloaded 3ds version or only with an emulator?
is this pokemon yellow? how did you get the colors like this?
How do delete a red file cuz mine is crashing and making random noises is it corrupted cuz I'm playing it on a gb color
How you delete any save file in current and previous Pokemon games is you go to the home-screen press select then up on the d-pad then b to delete it.
Lord Shrek press up, b, and select at the same time
Lord Shrek oops wrong person
Milkassasins34 ` np man
If you do this the rival doesn’t get all three starters as well right?
Too bad this glitch is virtually impossible to pull off on the 3DS.However, if you give your player character the right name, you can make all three starters spawn on the eastern Cinnabar Island coastline thanks to the Old Man glitch. Not only that, but since their levels would be extraordinarily high, all you need to do is give each of them a single rare candy to help them evolve once, and then get their experience to underflow to level 100 so they can fully evolve.
If I do this on gameboy will it ruin the game by any chance?
Wouldnt this softlock the game?
If you have more than 1 pokemon registered the game will think you have a pokedex and when you give oak the parcel you dont recieve one therefore the passed out guy is still blocking the area
It never registers the new pokemon as "caught" since you just recieve it and they won't show up in your pokedex when you do get one. You'll have to use dittos later in the game to breed them to add to the pokedex
Does this work for the ds downloadable version
Can anyone tell me what just happened 3:20
Does it work on 2ds
Why not save in Oak's lab before choosing so you don't have to go through the whole game?
does this work w/ the downloaded version from e-shop?
I tried it many times and need to conclude this is bullshit. On a GameBoy Color the soft reset will not respond during saving.
No matter which time you soft reset. The game only respond to the reset at the moment the first character appears from the message that confirms the succesfull save.
Where those sped up or were those real-time glitches?
Sped up. Ik I'm majorly late, but *yes*
I’ve been trying forever on my emulator on my phone and it’s not working. Help!
can u even do this if u aren't using a tas? It seems u need to get a few things frame perfect
how do you reset on a game boy advance? there is only the option to turn it in or off
That's what I like to know any luck. I have game boy color
+rickey4567 Do you do it at the point where it warns you that it will overwrite your saved data, or do you wait until you confirm that you'd like the previous data to be saved over?
you have to do it when it warns you that it will overwrite your save.
+rickey4567 I would not have posted this if I couldn't do it.
This looks too hard to get right. lol
Seven_Martinez have you fucking tried it's impossible
It's really freaking hard! Took me somewhere around 4 hours to get it to work right.
MrCrispy1991 ive given up so hard is it
Don't give up. You only have two frames to press start. The game runs are like 15 frames.
MrCrispy1991 I don't really get it with frames well cuz I'm 11 years old
I've tried this countless times and after many hours of attempts, still nothing.
I have the steps here:
1.) get your first starter
2.) save the game
3.) Start a new file
4.) do save corruption (reset the game right after the Yes/No window closed)
5.) if it failed, follow steps 1-4 again
6.) if it worked, get your new starter
7.) do steps 1-4 again
8.) do this till you have all starters
Would this glitch work to get other gift pokemon or just the starters?
Can somebody explain this to me because I've tried 20 times in nothing's haven't who keeps put me on 2 seconds Choose charmander
I wish you could do this in the GBA version. I have Fire Red but I can't find my Leaf Green and I don't think you can trade using an emulator. Also, those carts are effing expensive.
tarrker you can trade on emulators. I can on myboyadvance anyway
so the save file corrupted but i didn't get my other starter help please?
No uodate pokedex ..
I pretty sure ditto glitch can update pokedex instead of reset things.
I actually never knew this. I'm still haven't got the full grasp. You reset during your saving? Can someone explain the process?
MrCrispy1991 I for some reason destroys the file being saved but it sends the pokemon to the last save
sameer chowdhury I understand the function of the glitch. I am just having trouble figuring out the glitch.
sameer chowdhury I meant the process of getting it to work. Like the step by step he gives us is not entirely accurate. I found that it has to be the second frame after you hit yes to save when you have to reset. Not within two frames. Literally only the second frame. And the game runs at 15 or so and fluctuate. It's really a challenge.
who else loves processor oak?
I prefer super nintendo chalmers than processor oak
Wouldn't the game be softlocked though since the game detects you have more than one pokémon owned, and Prof. Oak won't give you the pokédex?
If I remember correctly this was only possible on the japanese versions
Edit: Also apparently the data of the others wasn't added to the pokedex
I got this to work once on the 3DS but when going for the last starter I did it too early and it got corrupted
can you do this on a regular ds
shit took me like 30-45 mins to get it. your timing has to be impeccable. literally as soon as the yes no sign goes away, shut it down.
If the save file gets deleted, do I have to start over from the first step on the first starter, even if I'm on the second starter?
Chuck Norris stfu you muppet
Messed around with this a little bit. It's a whole lot easier to dump your rom and edit with PKHex or just edit your emulator save file.
what I did was have a mates game boy and just start the game choose one trade it over and repeat until I'd traded over 2 of each so when I properly started the game he'd just trade back so we both had all 3. took a while but that's what I did
Wait.. So what I do after it says save file is destroyed?
you cant do that without corrupting your save file so its only possible on the emulator
