@2WIREG There are only a few first generation products out there right now... more coming very soon though. I played with a 3D Bloggie cam from Sony at a recent press event, it was only an engineering sample, but it looked interesting... I'm sure I'll get a chance to review one near launch as I have with the other Bloggie models.
Thanks for the review it really shed some light on the camera. I didn't really know there was a difference since i just went from Dslite to 3Ds. I can't wait for the review for the video taking
@iphone3gs78 Yes... but don't take that to men the Camera on the iPod Touch are good... because they really aren't, at least for stills, it does okay for video though (Which the 3DS cannot currently do, but will in a future update).
Was this an ad for HJ's? Suddenly I'm craving it. And that snort at the end was more than enough to warrant a like for this video, as well as all the other cool stuffs you were doing during this video
@shaunosullivan111 To be honest, I haven't had much play time with the 3DS in the last few days because I'm testing out the pre-release review unit of the Xperia Play (Playstation Phone) for review, so any "game time" I have, I spend on the XP in preparation for its review. heh.
good vid.. still deciding on whether to get this.. just doesnt really have the games im into.. do your eyes still get tired as mentioned in your previous vid when playing with the 3d on? im still yet to try it out... because i dont want to get it and not play with the 3d on for the majority of the time
You say the picture resolution is 640 x 480. Is that for both outer facing and the single inner facing cameras? If that's so, why does the inner facing camera photos look so much more clear and crisp? Do you know if the imaging sensors on the outer vs. inner camera are different? Or perhaps the lenses? I would assume they are all the same to expedite manufacture. Or maybe the outward facing cameras are actually sensing half the horizontal resolution because of the parallax interlacing? Thoughts?
@nick2kewl4u "go on to NGP it's not a long time away when it's in markets" ... how do YOU know? Sony themselves haven't published a release date... all we know is "Probably around November" which is at least 6 months away. No reviewer on the planet has even laid hands on one yet dude, let alone blokes like me.
so does stuff pop off of the screen like the earlier Blue and red glasses 3d, or is it that kinda bizarre 3-D you get in cinemas now days where the image just has more depth to it?
3D pics are a bit like blu-ray was back when Sony launched it. Everyone thought it would fail but it ended up destroying HD DVD's so just be patient. Sucks though right now that you can only look at the 3D shtuff on the 3DS itself without jumping through a bunch of hoops. It is more casual though since no one would use it for serious photography so it doesn't matter much in the end.
My budget is limited so I need to prioritize my purchases. What would you suggest I should buy first? The Xperia Play or the 3DS? My phone is half-broken and I'm still owning the silver/grey brick of the first generation DS. So what to buy? :/
@Blunty3000 To add, if you go blind in one eye you lose almost all sense of depth. That is why you need two cameras for 3D images. (and 2 eyes for depth)
i guess it was a cost cutting issue then since there are now 2 cameras with more functions. i can't wait for HD 3D cameras. in the near future perhaps.
@blunty3000 I noticed you filmed this with your 60d, do you film most of your videos with it now, or is it used intermittently? apologies for the poor spelling.
I thinks you needed to explain the AWESOMENESS of the 3D photos a bit more, cuz it has me a bit inspired too, it's probably my favorite feature on the 3ds! Thumbs up?
I agree that the 3DS camera certainly is not the best, but honestly I didn't expect it to be. I never expect any non-primary feature of a device to be any good, really. I expected it to be about par with my cell phone's camera (a really cheap model that you get practically free when you sign up for the service plan), and I was about right with that guess. Though it's actually a bit lower resolution than the cell phone.
I like the 3d distortion in the photo editor on the 3ds where you can make parts of a picture jump out at you. still worst camera ive ever used. the augmented reality photo taking is cool, its just a tool to pass time.
@acww52 the wording of your comment leads me to believe that this is a common occurrence for you, and one would think that after maybe three or four times you'd actually learn from making the same mistake over and over and SHUT THE FUCK UP until the video is over and you have all the information? Maybe that's juts me though, right?
@nick2kewl4u Doesn't mean it's fact. many stores will enter "place holder" info into their systems for launch dates and prices on products like this well before anything is OFFICIALLY confirmed. Same thing happens with Apple gear all the time, same thing happened with some Nintendo products when I myself was working in retail. Just because it's on gamestop's site or internal systems does NOT mean it's official, and does NOT mean Sony have set a final date and price yet. Don't be such a noob.
The only reason I can think of, for Nintendo making the camera as horribly low resolution, is cause of cost cutting, to make more profit, but I personally think, they could of at least put 1.5mp cameras on there for no more money, and added a cheap $.50us LED flash for low light pics.
I was quite fascinated with the 3D camera. I even used the analog stick to move the images farther apart just so I can see how much 3D I can take...I saw some really great 3D...but then I got quite dizzy. I'm probably never gonna put these on my computer, I've got other cameras that can take better photos. ;)
@Blunty3000 Yeah, it was impressive. I don't know an overly large amount about photography, though it looks as though most of the best cameras wouldn't be able to give that image the amount of vibrancy it had without it being edited after the image was taken.
I believe Nintendo probably gets away with the "crappy" camera in the 3DS because the average person isn't buying it for the camera. Generally, from my experience, people only use the camera on the iDS for simple goofing around and playing.
I must agree on your last point. ive, truth be told, never been a huge fan of photography but the 3DS has definatly sparked something with its very fun 3D photo ability and i do think to myself "wow...this is great,,,but what if nintendo just put the tiniest bit better cameras in this baby?"
@SSJGriei Do you mean autistic? Either way, he said artistic. Why would he say autistic in a video about photography? Unless he's implying hipsters are autistic, but still
for some reason your better taking the .mpo file and converting it over to jpeg on the computer. What ever the 3ds is using for making jpegs for some reason drops out color that the mpo file has, making photos worse :( used StereoPhoto Maker to convert the 3ds mpo file, this program will also be useful for your later CRACK addition ;)
The 3DS's look better because they are in 3DDDDDDD!!!! Seriously though, they are the same cameras, Nintendo should have at least made them 2 Mega Pixels. Maybe in a re-design in a few years, not much else to improve on without making a whole new system all together.
@adambunion This may come as a shock, but not everyone gives a flying fuck about pure subscriber numbers. I'd rather have 2000 viewers with smart questions who watch and respect the content than a million idiots all screaming like retards in my comments section. I call it like I see it, I don't bullshit around hoping don't "offend" some precious fucking snowflake, so please... Feel free to FUCK OFF if you don't like that :)
@jimjamkillsnerds It uses the image from the left camera for the standard 2D JPG
@newnhamlea1 Depends what I'm filming, also when, where and how.
@2WIREG There are only a few first generation products out there right now... more coming very soon though. @thegameguy98 As I made clear... this is just a look at the cameras, if you want my opinion on the 3DS itself in full, watch my full review. Duh.
@yohnazo Yeah, I was even surprised how far I recovered that image. :)
@iphone3gs78 Yes... but don't take that to men the Camera on the iPod Touch are good... because they really aren't, at least for stills, it does okay for video though (Which the 3DS cannot currently do, but will in a future update).
@samsimpson11 Thanks. Always a joy to know my work on producing this content is worth while and appreciated. *headdesk*
Was that Woolooloomoo Wharf I spotted in one of those pictures? Stayed very near there on holiday a few years back, Sydney is fucking awesome.
Was this an ad for HJ's? Suddenly I'm craving it.
And that snort at the end was more than enough to warrant a like for this video, as well as all the other cool stuffs you were doing during this video

That last edited image with the shot from the sky I really like, it surprises me how much you can get out of a fairly standard image.
Is the DSi Camera still better than the New Nintendo 3DS Camera?
@nick2kewl4u "go on to NGP it's not a long time away when it's in markets" ... how do YOU know? I appreciate how honest you are in your reviews, but sill respectful. Good job!

@foregip because there was a lot of high contrast in that composition... and that absurd statue always makes me laugh.
@Blunty3000 To add, if you go blind in one eye you lose almost all sense of depth. That is why you need two cameras for 3D images. (and 2 eyes for depth)

I think the camera's on the 3DS have to be a lil worst since they are also used to scan for AR cards. as well as work a certain way for 3D photos
id say having the camera take a photo that adds more than what u see on the screen is a plus, u can easily just edit out whats not wanted.
Will you be posted your Mii code for us to scan? :)
is the cameras on the ipod touch better than the cameras on the 3ds/dsi?
i always knew the 3DS took worse photos from the DSi but i never looked into it! good video
@MrMechaE The DSi has terrible image quality and two only .3 megapixel cameras. It's obviously not meant for pictures.
I like the 3d distortion in the photo editor on the 3ds where you can make parts of a picture jump out at you. still worst camera ive ever used. the augmented reality photo taking is cool, its just a tool to pass time.

@SSJGriei "Audistic" isn't even a word... so what do you think? *facepalm*
If you want some of that high res 3D, the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 can hook you up with that.
@shaunosullivan111
They don't hurt, it's just if you play way too long, it will get a strain. If you take moderate breaks, you'll be fine.
how are your pictures so good? mine are terable
I love the camera, it gives photos a real potential to be great. Take a picture of a plant in full bloom from a aerial perspective and be amazed.
@Blunty3000
Yeah, it was impressive. I don't know an overly large amount about photography, though it looks as though most of the best cameras wouldn't be able to give that image the amount of vibrancy it had without it being edited after the image was taken.
6:32 I didn't know that the blue 3DS's paintjob looked THAT cool :o
Blunty, could you upload the .mpo files somewhere? I would like to see these things in 3D.
I believe Nintendo probably gets away with the "crappy" camera in the 3DS because the average person isn't buying it for the camera. Generally, from my experience, people only use the camera on the iDS for simple goofing around and playing.
Who buys a 3ds for the camera? I didnt even know it could do 3d pictures but then again I'm not a nintendo fanboy so I guess that explains it
@blueyesalexya I have two hands. If you can't figure out the rest you should probably just go away.
I must agree on your last point. ive, truth be told, never been a huge fan of photography but the 3DS has definatly sparked something with its very fun 3D photo ability and i do think to myself "wow...this is great,,,but what if nintendo just put the tiniest bit better cameras in this baby?"
I'm just waiting for the day I walk through QVB and see a bearded man taking photos with a 3DS/DSi. :p
Blunty, the only thing you did in this video, was convinced me that Australia is one beautiful country!
cant wait to see people saying "That's pretty damn good for a 3DS"
@4LackOfaBetterNam3 Nice catch there Hercule Poirot.
@evilutionist Who else on RUclips can offer technology reviews containing bronze bovine balls and cocaine metaphors? ;)
I feel like a moron sometimes. commenting in the middle of a video then finding out in the end of the video is what I posted early.
Great review I loved it when I tried it in the store
I think Nate likes to open cans of worms and watch the bicker and scoble
@Blunty3000 any reason?
blunty, WHY DID YOU TAKE TWO PICTURES OF A BULLS GENITALS!?
@SSJGriei Do you mean autistic? Either way, he said artistic. Why would he say autistic in a video about photography? Unless he's implying hipsters are autistic, but still
@MrMechaE Hey 'tardo, try watching the video first.
you can change the sharpness on the 3ds can you on dsi
for some reason your better taking the .mpo file and converting it over to jpeg on the computer. What ever the 3ds is using for making jpegs for some reason drops out color that the mpo file has, making photos worse :( used StereoPhoto Maker to convert the 3ds mpo file, this program will also be useful for your later CRACK addition ;)
Maybe my eyes are untrained, but the pictures from the DSi seemed usually worse.
114 comments on 304 views over one day. MAN you have a responsive audience! :D

Awesome video as always :)
The 3DS's look better because they are in 3DDDDDDD!!!!
Seriously though, they are the same cameras, Nintendo should have at least made them 2 Mega Pixels. Maybe in a re-design in a few years, not much else to improve on without making a whole new system all together.
@Somethingproductable
