The biggest wow effect isn't just ETS2 itself, but how beautiful and content rich a game can get if it's beeing developed constantly and not dropped somewhat 2 years after the initial release. I think that's what's missing in alot of the modern gaming industry.

@@geog26 it's like Mojang with Minecraft. When developers change the code in the game, they should do it very carefully, not breaking existing code and making further changes easy to implement. That actually takes the time. Mods are based on the existing code, and don't expect to be reliable, that makes development way faster, but not suitable for serious game development

They want something done, they do it. On the other hand, devs don't decide shit. Management does. And if the strategy is to release new additional content 1 time a year (and its not an arbitrary decision, it's based on a TON of factors that make sense on a business, marketing, task-management and legal level), that's what they'll do, and in no way it means the official development team couldn't produce more if they were asked to.
@@cutiepielonely the game engine is great apart from the anti-aliasing it has. it literally ran on my old intergraded graphics pc at 60fps no issues and on my current pc i can crank everything to max and still get over 100

I still have an old ETS2 1.8 installation from 2013 along side with current version. Sometimes I like to relive playing ETS2 of those old days in my old G25 steering wheel!

The skybox and HDR style of the first versions of ETS2 look like you're in a dream, but looks very cool in my opinion. I wonder if it would be possible to replicate in the latest version of the game.

The cloud texture on that version was awful . We never know if it's morning afternoon or evening. Everything looked same . The cloud was gloomy always. Also there weren't any greens like plants or sceneries always greys everywhere you go
Yes but i am pretty sure they wont come back because it costs to much performance. If you go to online dealer it loads 6 trucks i think only a small screen of it. In the old dealer the full truck was there. But it was cooler for sure.
They literally just dropped an update with adaptive cruise control and emergency braking. This is the only game I know that actually listens to its community, and is fully committed to the game
This is true. I liked the earlier truck engine sound versions better. Although they weren't as good, at least they were better than the current ones. For example, I hate the engine sound of Scania trucks, they sound horrible nowadays and you have to resort to free or paid mods to get a more realistic and improved sound.
I wish they could add an option to choose between the original and the new lighting system in the graphics options. I really liked the old lighting and HDR effects specially the dawn and dusk lighing effects.

So glad they made those changes. The original version was the reason I never played it and completely forgot that I even owned it at all. It casued me to have pretty negative memories of the game overall for many years. Stumbled back in randomly about 2 years ago and haven't put it down since.
Just bought the game before watching this video and man let me tell you not disappointed to see the difference. Still need to install and play it but was curious enough to watch this video. Visual effects seems to be a massive improvement.
The fact that this game still has endless opportunities for new DLCs/content is the key. No company can keep updating a game for 10+ years without it bringing in a steady income for obvious reasons.
My last game was is between 2015-2016 and damn that's the best day of my life. When i go home from school and start playing it on my father laptop i didn't remember the layout still like 2012 or not but when i start playing it again on my laptop Feb 2023 damn all my memories flowing back to me
I liked the old Scania truck, which had the black plastic part on the sides (side windows). Now there is not even that customisation option where one can choose whether to put the plastic part or not.
Crazy to see the changes in direct comparasim. Back in 2012 I got the game right when it was released, I was playing ETS1 before and was glad about the Tuning options but you could see many of the ETS1 buildings and landscape back then. Now years later I played the game a bit and the streets and landscape became much more realistic. I'm glad they continue to update and improve the game instead of releaseing half finished products every year.
They took a HUGE step back in the clouds department. They look more real back in the day. The music was also better back in the day, for me at least, along with the older loading screen.
I disagree. The newer skyboxes are phenomenal. The clouds can be more realistic than that, but still way more realistic than the grey washed early versions
I downloaded this game a week ago, never played it before since I was not into simulation games and I always played RTS and MMORPG but the ETS2 easily bacame my favorite game. This is simply INSANE, the physics are so good player can almost feel it lol and yea, I am playing it on keyboard...I can only imagine how awesome it feels for guys who have insane setups.

Things have certainly changed! The game is nearly 11 years old, and it has gotten better with newer map DLCs, reworking of countries, new features in trucks, new trucks to buy and drive, and creating a high quality experience to drive around!
From one update to the next one, you don't notice much difference. But from 10 years ago to today...man, the differences in graphics are huge! reflections, lining, textures, everything. But the colors are a huge step back. The streets looked more realistic in the old lighting. Seriously now.. how did the roads become so brownish? The asphalt is still grey the last time I checked...
cool but it's a real shame that they don't realize that the menu and hotel and some other such things are so far behind the times, they really need an update

2012 best light shaft, more lighting reflection, and bluring image, but on 2023 look like add some film filters and add more texture with HD definition, and also add some more feature
They updated many features,build a new ones,and even the engine is updated as far is possible with very nice lighting system. Some people complaining that engine is outdated...of course,it's not a freaking UE5 but still looks very good for this type of game. Also when we talking about purpose,engine is very well build because there is no limitation on map sizes,like in SnowRunner or FS22,and you can build real 1/1 map sizes(ETS and ATS maps are smaller not 1/1),because everything is streamed and optimized. SCS is not a Rockstar with thousands of people on the payroll so they can easily build a new engine that would serve they purpose,it a small team that keep deliveling amazing updates. This is very enyoyable,detailed and deep simulator and developers never targeted to be triple X Next Gen title. That's it.
I really love that they keep updating the game more and more. I just wish they would add optional stuff like older trucks. Sure there are mods but i´d like to have them coming with the game, put them in a dlc and have my money.

Tbh, the older music, some graphic tones, and the dealers seem better imo. Idk why but, the graphics back then are so nostalgic to me I’d almost want those back some times. Lol. ETS2 and SCS Software proves that you don't need to make sequels for your game series every 2 years to make cash, you just need a passion and an idea.

I didn't like it, it gave me a headache and it didn't look very realistic. It was too shiny.

Me too. I played the same version till 2018 because it ran somoot on my pc. After that I got the latest version.
the bloom effect on the older versions was developped to hide those imperfections (light signal ,brake lights etc.)and make the game look "realistic"

SCS is not a Rockstar with thousands of people on the payroll so they can easily build a new engine that would serve they purpose,it a small team that keep deliveling amazing updates.
This is very enyoyable,detailed and deep simulator and developers never targeted to be triple X Next Gen title.

I really love that they keep updating the game more and more. I just wish they would add optional stuff like older trucks. Sure there are mods but i´d like to have them coming with the game, put them in a dlc and have my money.

they need to update the vegetation, flat looking trees grass with modern hardware nowadays we have, its ridiculous more games still have that type of vegetation
After so many games have their own remasters and remakes, ETS2 and ATS (as far as I know) are the only ones that recreated their games right.

Tbh, the older music, some graphic tones, and the dealers seem better imo. Idk why but, the graphics back then are so nostalgic to me I’d almost want those back some times. Lol. Sounds stupid but it’s true. Have a like a old graphic new graphics switch in game. Lol great improvement over the years. Amazing
