Same, especially considering now, like everything else, is subscription-based. Such a shame but it’s still undoubtedly the best option if you need GPU acceleration.
A waste of money. Bootcamp runs Windows a lot better on the Intel Macs and its free.
I don't buy any of their products anymore. With the last two versions they practically forced you to upgrade because the old Paralells version has some compatibility issues with the new macOS.
And I don't want to buy subscription models, I want to buy software. But then I expect it to work properly for more than just 1 year.
Thanks to piracy, subscription models are the only way companies can survive and keep employees. That's the truth when I sit down and think about it. Adobe software would be pirated and they would go out of business. But some companies like BlackMagic still offer a one time purchase option.
@@surfntrucks yes there isnt really any great monetizing way rn, but for example crossover with about 65€ for a lifetime license is much better
I hear you but that was Apple's fault. They do offer the one time purchase which is still cheaper than buying a full copy of Win 11.

Click, click and click, and you will see the non-subscription version is barely under $100 after 25% off. This was the normal price a couple of years ago. Also, I have Parallels Desktop 17 and 19. 19 still has no DirectX 12 support I believe, and I see the same bug, Serious Sam classic still runs like slow-mo, which runs perfectly fine on VMware. I was warned by Parallels Desktop 17 that it's not compatible with macOS Sonoma. Turns out it runs just fine. Looks like the so called incompatibility is about printer, and IMHO should be treated as a bug.
I got this a few weeks back to try and play Dawn of War Soul Storm online. It runs really well, but when you try to go online you get a sync error that I just can’t sort, which is a real shame.
I wonder if either Parallels or Fusion will ever use Apple's D3DMetal? If Crossover can use it, why not them?

Hey there, Andrew! I just sold my PS5 and Gaming PC (am moving to another country), and now I’m only with my M1 Max. Would you recommend Parallels for some GamePass games, like Lies of P and Starfield, or would it be better for me to just use Crossover? Thanks!
Gamepass won’t really work on Parallels or CrossOver. Buy Lies of P on Steam and play the Mac version. There isn’t a method to get Starfield working yet.
Game Pass works well on the Intel Mac with Bootcamp. If you're a hardcore gamer, then your best option is to buy a Gaming Laptop. Apple wasn't built for gamers. That's why a lot of developers don't port their games on it.

hey can you please help me? I have an MacBook Pro with m3 pro processor and I downloaded parallel and crossover and parallels. crossover is working perfectly fine. I just bought myself a copy of ratchet and clank rift apart on steam and I can't play it. crossover says critical error and when I try to run the game with parallels It just does not open. there is not even an error message popping up. there is just nothing. can you please help me and explain me what I am doing wrong?

I have recently installed Parallels on my M1pro MacBook Pro and I've been trying to run Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30.
I am having this issues where character bodies do not load during gameplay and in engine cut scenes. As well as this, parts of the ground do not load in and the background flashes as a white screen. This is an issue I have had with the other brothers in arms (earned in blood) game as well.
Have you encountered this issues before? If so, have you got any remedies? Thanks

It's a waste of money. It doesn't run Windows games properly and not all titles are compatible like Resident Evil 4 and Village. At least Bootcamp is free and runs a lot better on Intel Macs with the Radeon 580RX videocards.
@@surfntrucks tried some games out, it runs non arm games but only some. For example overwatch didnt really run at all but eu4 did

Honestly, no version is that good. I threw 16GB of ram at it on my M1 Max and it struggles to play anything properly. It's missing new OpenGL software so you are going to get a a lot of error messages. If you want to play games, go with Crossover.
there are websites which offer the premium version of parallels for free
@Andrew - Like you, I am a fan of CrossOver, especially since Version 24 ... but I have to say Parallels 19 Pro gives CrossOver a run for its money. It's fast. I feel it runs as fast as CrossOver. It runs more apps than CrossOver. I can get PalWorld running on CrossOver but not on Parallels, but I may just need to do a reinstall. But other games run, such as the Mega Man series that won't run-on CrossOver. I am pleased to work with both as each has its benefits. Thank you for your fantastic videos.

I would gladly buy a $150 lifetime license, but the non-subscription one ends up being the same as a subscription, because when the new macOS drops next year, the new Parellels v69 or whatever will be released and then v68 won't be compatible, forcing you to upgrade, and you play the same game every year.

Fortnite and many other games don't run on Windows ARM right?
Fortnite won't run due to its Anti-cheat, regardless whether you're virtualizing windows ARM or emulating windows x86_64

@@surfntrucksI mean, a lot of people hate windows/linux. A lot of people just wanna own/carry 1 device. But this is the smart way. And if you think of it, two or three years of subscriptions to Parallels or VMWare or CrossOver equal an entry level SteamDeck for example, and then you can have a portable device that runs a lot of AAA games, instead of just playing the lottery with the mac alternatives. Or just a cheap gaming laptop and you have native support.
Mac gaming will never be the thing Apple envisions, because developers don't care. I mean, even now (and this is relevant to mac since all these solutions under the hood have benefited from Wine and Proton) with the push to Proton given by Valve, developers still don't care about Linux, they just expect Proton to be able to magically run their games. I'm afraid this will be the same deal in macOS. Developers will only "hope" for their games to run through whatever wrapper and maybe get those extra 100 users in mac.

Decent software, still has some bugs but the subscription model has pushed me away from it. There decent opetion ou there that doesn't always have their hand in my pocket. RIP Parallels.

Folks, if you want to run Windows games, just get a Gaming Laptop. Parallels aren't compatible with titles like Flight Simulator, Gears 5, Mech Warrior 5, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and Destiny 2. This is one of the reasons why the Intel Macs are still better than the Silicon because it can run x86 and 64-bit applications perfectly with Bootcamp. It's a shame Apple has discontinued it.
Not everyone is a "gamer," some people are just casual players. I'm not gonna buy an entire computer because I want to dip into some older games in my Steam library for a few hours.

Just kidding, I've never heard of half of those games. On the other hand, I can still play most of my Steam library on my M2 Pro MBP using either Whisky (free), Fusion (free), or if I wanted a more polished experience, there's Parallels or Crossover. I still want to play GTA V and Arkham Knight, so I went with Crossover after they integrated D3DMetal. At some point I'll probably buy Cyberpunk, but there's nothing else on the PC-only list that I care about. So I'm not gonna buy a PC. I've already got a ROG Ally anyway.

I hate this software! When you pay for a year, you expect to receive only updates for a year! But after a year you cant even use it at all anymore! Crossover is way more consumerfriendly like that! Also parallels 18 has no real new features compared to 17. A shame you promote a ripoff like this :(
