Dimebag said that "Through The Ashes of Empires" was the record of the year. Imagine what he would've thought of "The Blackening" had he still been alive.
@@xkovacsx09 it's obviously entirely subjective, but a) you forgot Through the Ashes 😉 and b) I'd switch Unto the Locust for Bloodstone & Diamonds, but if I'm being entirely realistic I think The Blackening was the last true undisputable classic. You can listen ti the imputa Dave, Phil and Adam had. Ashes and Unto are great examples of the vibes they went into and from the Blackening. Best MH in my opinion
@Andrew Carroll That was I. Many fun times were had and lots of cool people from around the world. One of the great travesties of our time was when Robb shut the board down. That sucked. I'd been a part of that community since either late 95 or early 96 back in the days when Sven ran the board before the band got involved. Back in the 90's, when catching flights to go watching a band play half way around the world wasn't really a thing, there seemed to be a lot of people on the board warming up to that. When Ahrue joined the band, back when I was still living in England, a certain Master P let me know about the Cocodrie show and tickets were booked... Now that I live near SF, I got to meet a lot of the folks from that forum when MH was playing their home town shows. Lots of fun, even more alcohol and from what I can remember, lots of good times. That was back before the PC Police got involved and ruined it all. The board was a huge melting pot of cultures from around the world and if the Karen's read it now they'd be horrified but the folks who were part of the board and were the butt of the jokes took it as that - jokes. They'd laugh and make jokes back. There were a few times where a few folks on the board crossed over the line but that was very rare and those were called out. What was your username?
@Andrew Carroll Some of the shit that went down on the board was the stuff of legends. Tharsh and the toxic waltz. Robb refused to play it when board members voted for it. Tharsh bugged Exodus to play it and got knocked the fuck out. LOL. Dirt being worked over by a pretend cancer victim, Sean moving to the Netherlands and getting married only to kinda sorta find out that his other half never stopped sleeping with others. The game was up when apparently she slept with another board member... Eor: the man, the myth, the leg end. I ended up thinking that was the alter-ego of Bill or Mike P. He couldn't be real. Like Osbos... burning in the medieval maybe... Just when you though being invited backstage to the gig at the Warfield couldn't get any better... Walking out though the back door after the show and seeing a gal from the board taking it from behind like a trooper further up the alley. Maybe it was an 'audition' for the Gentleman's club next door... Ah, good times!
+JoRdOguitarman1 Agreed. I also think that Opeth's run of Blackwater Park, Deliverance/Damnation (cheating here, but they were recorded at the same time and released just a few months apart), and Ghost Reveries puts them in the discussion as well.
To Me they are both are equal. Blackening has the life changing arrangements, solos, riffs and lyrics, But unto the locust is a beautifully sculpted work of music. LOVED The Classical inspired thrash going on with Unto the locust. I mean, This is the end, WHAT A KILLER SONG!!!

Shark Bite Studios in Oakland, CA produced this heavy, brutal slab in 2007. Exodus also recorded there and released a few months later Atrocity Exhibition. Bay Area FTW!
Unto the locust is great, well structured melodic and interesting and powerful sounding. I agree, their older albums were Hatebreed meets Pantera boredom.
It's so hard to use the word " perfect " much like " forever ". I mean, what do thee words really mean, when they could mean different things to different people. Some would say " Elton John " perfect. " Queen " perfect. How long is forever ? When you can listen to an entire album through the most expensive home audio , medium range over ear head phones, to crappy earbuds and each time you are MOVED outside of yourself not by any single thing but the entirety of it all coming together in such a way, it's........ To me this is " perfect " and will remain this way in my version of forever. If it wasn't this exact group of individuals, exactly where they were in their lives this would not have been possible. Machine Head have always been a great supersonic thrash metal band ever. Especially, with Adam gone and Jared MacEachern participating, compared to Megadeth, Anthrax, Behemoth and Slayer. I love them and I enjoy their music. I, although, saw them live at the ROUNDHOUSE theatre, about a year ago, on the Catharsis world album promotion tour, they were really great. I hope they keep up with what they are doing!
maybe you are right, it seems live his ride hand tends to fall off time when his feet at snare are always right on hahaha., strange drummer but still one of my favorites
Unfortunately, ever since they're (he's - Robb) chasing the Blackening 2 PS: I LOVE Unto the Locust, Bloodstone and Diamonds and Of Kingdom and Crown, in this exact order (let's just forget Machine Head's Lulu as Catharsis), but there's a clear attempt to replicate structures, riffage, melodies and vocal melodies from this absolute legendary cut, being the latest release what is more "different" than the previous ones since The Blackening.
It's such a major shame that Rob and Adam had a permanent falling out. Those two were musical brothers, the bass lines and backing vocals Adam provided in the MH catelog he is in is tge metal stuff of legends. Apparently the falling out is so bad they really cut ties with each other and it's lasted for many years.
