Much as I love the miranda and how this thing looks far better than the nebula (though I do like the nebula for being effective kitbashing of avalible resources,) why name it for the ship Kahn stole? I get in universe there are reasons but 'we need a Miranda people will recognize the name of' seems to be the out of universe reason. That is literally my only gripe. Everything else though? This is what an updated Miranda should be. Very resource minimal use ship, a pocket cruiser that is genuinely solid as a platform that can be built around, especially with the 'rollbar' mission specific pod that could be swapped out at starbase. It's a great ship design that is a great way to fill gaps as either a patrol boat, escort ship within a formation, or even a humble courier. The Miranda as a basis for updates? Was a genuinely solid choice.
I kinda like the name Reliant, and it makes sense if you consider it was a ship that almost destroyed the Enterprise. Khan is a famous historical figure and the ship he used to almost kill Kirk would become legendary in universe. Also when the U.S.S. Reliant was around, the Miranda class wasn't known as the exploding rust bucket it became later in it's life, so the name would represent what Starfleet wants the new ship class to be known for.
This was the issue I had with it as well... In the unedited full script I included a section on that very topic, explaining that in Starfleet and The federations attempt to move forward in to a new century, the made the conscious choice to lift the bans on using Starship names that had been disgraced like Reliant and Equinox, and making them reborn in to new classes... But that was all I could think of to be honest...
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios Works for me man. I utterly adore this little ship and feel it is a far better all 'rounder than the inquiry. Though for those that enjoy the Inquiry I do not at all want my opinion to take away from their enjoyment. She's not a bad ship class. I just like this one better.
The Reliant is a major upgrade to a ship that has served the federation for many years I love it but than again I'm a sucker for the miranda Class it's the first ship you get in sto she was old but she was tuff
The Reliant class clearly shows its Miranda class heritage. Like a Miranda class vessel on steroids. Or like a genetically engineered starship with greatly enhanced performance. I'm sure that Khan Noonien Singh would approve of this beautiful but deadly ship. Great video really enjoyed it.
Game print makes them. I got an Excalibur and 2 Adamant classes. Their catalog is vast, it'll take hours of searching to find the class you want in the paint style you want, (about 50 models per page, with 892 pages, at last count) AND you can customize the registration. My Excalibur was named the USS Tyson NCC 32908. And the Adamant was USS Whittington NX 42598. ....well made, please Paramount return the license to Game Print.
I love this new generation of Miranda class of Star ship this new update design keeps up the design linage if the Miranda class to the weapons roll bar and the lower Warp nacelles
Yes, I love the idea that Starfleet would simply update a starship class, rather then ditching the design! After all, I think eventually, you'd run out of different starship designs LOL
I love this class too! If you love this you might like the Exeter class too. I know I do! I’m hoping to get the Exeter class next when I have more free time.
Love the video, love the story you made, love the ship. The only complaint that I can make is the same complaint that I give to all ships in this era, the use of Black in its color scheme. It was in the book 'Enterprise' where George Kirk was serving, or commanding, I don't remember which now. But there was a mission against the Romulans and in the book they talked about the Romulan perspective of Federation design. The Romulans think that the Federation are brazen, showoffs. That the Federation designed ships from the standpoint of bravado. The Romulans, Klingons and others all designed their ships with dark hues, to at least, visually camouflage themselves to the Blackness of space. The Federation was unique in this regard where not only did they paint their ships White, but they also used self illumination to make sure that they're seen. Federation ships should be Bright, White and Illuminated.
Every Era of Trek seems to change it's color scheme basically to fit that era its in... ENT- Copper, DSC-Gun Metal, TOS-light Grey, TMP Pearlized White, ending on White/blue, TNG- Darker Gery/Green DS9- Brown, Voyager- Robins Egg Blue and PIC Grey, White and Black. So theres really no change to what Trek has always done and considering the tragedies that the Federation and Starfleet faced in the Later 24th century, using a bit of Black makes absolute Sense!
I'm surprised it took so long to finally retire the Miranda-class. You'd think the Dominion War would have finally seen the class retired at the end of it. But this is definitely a nice modernization. New look, new technology, sleek, definitely a worthy successor to be the new workhorse of the fleet
Nice breakdown. Even though it has yet to be introduced in Canon, I’d like a Breakdown of a Possible Canon Version of the Andromeda-Class. I can imagine it being commissioned as a result of the Enterprise-D saving earth one last time. And in honor of Captain Liam Shaw, the other of the Two Prototype vessels would bear his name.
@@jonmcgee6987 oh yeah, imagine the Sutherland-Class that’s gotten the Full Galaxy Treatment? You get the Andromeda. I’m thinking that, while the Galaxy’s actual Successor, the venerable Ross-Class, was still mostly space worthy after 20 years of service, it was starting to show its age and up until 2401 no replacement was drawn up because the design was seen as unpopular, being called “Fat”, “Awkward”, and “Oblong”. That was until Frontier Day 2401, when both many Vessels, including those of the Ross-Class, were either Destroyed or Damaged Beyond Repair by Probert Station with the help from the Daring Potshots made by the USS Titan-A, and the Rescue of Earth from the Borgified Officers by the USS Enterprise-D. Starfleet Focused on developing many Starship projects to rebuild those lost or Damaged beyond repair, and I can see the Andromeda (inspired by the latter of the Two events.) being one of many designs, as-well as possibly the Archon, Horatio, and Lafayette Classes, to rebuild the fleet again. Same as before, Stripping Two Decommissioned Galaxy-Class Starships down to the frame, Modifying, and rebuilding up, just like for the USS Sutherland.
Originally the Miranda (as sen on ST: TWOK) was a happy accident. When the design was put on Gene’s desk it was placed upside down, which Gene didn’t realize. (there wasn’t anyone in his office to say different) So, that’s how he signed it. So the build crew had to build it that way, with the engines on the bottom and the pod on the top. She was supposed to b with the engines on the top and the pod on the bottom. Like I said , a happy accident. She has quickly become one of my fav ships.
This was the issue I had with it as well... There's one thing I don't understand, what is this thing called expiration date? I thought Starfleet gave the older ships to distant starbases or member worlds. Could you please explain this a little more?
I liked the original, but this one is to..round? I have not played one in Star Trek Online but I might give it a shot. Thanks for all the videos. They are quite good.
I'll be honest I gave up on Picard after season 1. This would fit perfectly into Star Trek. In real-world terms she is just a reskin of the Miranda Class. Many of the ships with this aesthetic are real nice looking, less windows making it look less fussy. Large, dark grey, areas of the ship with red highlights is a great colour scheme. I did find an image of the Miranda in the TOS style and it was really stunning too. Although not all ships will fit into a category, it's nice to have some ships that fit into shared design aesthetics. Constitution / Miranda / Constellation or Galaxy / Nebula / New Orleans.
I have always liked the look of the Miranda Class ships, they strike me as a more practical design than the Constitution class. When it's moving it almost looks like it's on rails, and can take a few hammer blows if it has too. I hope the design becomes Alpha Canon, it has a business like appearance that corresponds to the quasi-military style of Starfleet.
The holy trinity: Constitution class (refit) Excelsior (NX-2000) Miranda class (USS Reliant) The best most elegant + beautiful ships ever. You will never change my mind on this.
I would be more okay with the Reliant and California classes if the nacelles were on the same plane as the body of the ship - not below or above that line. This could be accomplished through different pylon design.
2/3 of fleet blown up is what makes the writing in this new era star trek dumb. Instead it should have been an attack on Mars and a fractured federation over the androids. Nothing against you good sir keep up the good work
Not at all, it's what makes for good writing. You seen, having tragedy like that happen in Trek makes it more realistic and gives us a new jumping off point for stories and characters... Far too often fandom gets stuck in this "I want this Universe as it always was," instead of accepting the reality, that times and people change, that events influence us all... Very relevant in todays society, and nothing against you or your ideas, but your idea takes away the true impact of the entire situation and come across as very amateur writing... And again, thats not trying to be offensive, it's just not good writing...
Infamous Miranda class? What? Infamous? The Miranda class is one of the most popular designs in ST history. Look at how many ships follow the design, the Gagarin, the Walker, Nimiz, Europe, the Shiva.... Ok that's Sec31 but the point being the Miranda class was far from infamous... It got a lot of bad play in the Dominion war, but not infamous.
Definition of Infamous; well known for some bad quality or deed. So actually it is infamous, whether you like it or not, as the class (in universe and out) is famous for many bad deeds! IE The Attack on the Enterprise Refit in STII, it's multiple explosions during the Dominion War, etc etc.
Looks terrific. So glad they didn’t utilize the warp nacelles of the Titan A and Stargazer. These are sleek and fit the aesthetic very well.
I think it's a great design overall :)
She looks like she is sleak, fast and able to pack a wallop when required. I like this ship.
