I doubt they would have thought of her as a witch, maybe a bit too bold for a court lady (it was often subtler), but makeup was common historically in upper classes. In ancient China, there was an actual incident where a concubine cut her face and her scar became a trending style in makeup. If I recall it was particularly popular during the Tang Dynasty but originated during the Three Kingdoms Period. Florals were also popular during the Tang Dynasty due to a flower falling on a princess' forehead while she was sleeping. Admittedly this is set during the warring states period so I'm not sure what cosmetic products would have been available, but I would not have been surprised if a woman during this time used cosmetics in the court to enhance their popularity or hide a disfigurement. I've found that most ancient civilizations are far more advanced than one would expect, the Romans for instance had heated flooring and made posters for Gladiators, and the Chinese distilled hormonal medication and developed toilet paper! I found the fur thingy-ma-bob on her shoulder more distracting XD
Yes i agree but i have been noticing a lot of Chinese and Korean dramas are taking a creative approach to these costumes and hairstyles i am not mad about it. So far it's not over the top. Because if they are going for the real authentic outfits i think it'll be bland just my thoughts.
