I have a question about the scene with general Bai. I'm not familiar enough with the traditions and so on at the time. I understand that stripping the general of his titel/power is a punishment but that was to be expected. However, I was wondering about him teaching her son (the king) military skills. On one hand it seems like a public disgrace to having fallen so low but on the other hand doesn't it show a lot of trust? Isn't a king's teacher a revered/good position? I don't understand wether his new position is a punishment or an honour. His reaction to it (the gasp) could indicate either (I don't speak Chinese, I started learning but only recently). I'm just really curious about it, because from what I understood it could have been either an honour or a disgrace but I'm not familiar enough with the customns during that time. My modern European brain thinks that compared to the death he was facing just a minute ago, her decree is a great honour but I just don't know. Can anybody here shed some light for me? I'd really appreciate it cause I'm super curious.
@Riva Mikhlin That does make sense but I'm still confused about his reaction: Was it one of disbelief because it's a demotion or is it because he cannot believe that she would allow him to wield a weapon in her son's presence (implied trust)? Because if it's the first, then honestly: what did he expect?
@@cassandramuller7337 Also by changing his name she has technically 'killed' General Bai. He now must live a new life as Wei Lao. I'm betting as soon as that meeting ended General Bai's death was announced to all of Qin.
