  • Here at Peach we love Mesa Boogie amplifiers, so we thought we’d give you a more in-depth look at a few that you perhaps haven’t heard much about. We’ve chosen the brand new California Tweed, the Fillmore and the Triple Crown to demonstrate a huge range of sounds available, and perhaps not quite what you’d expect from Boogie!
    Take a look at the range here: bit.ly/2KOsYAq

    The tweed sounds soooo good at low volume

    Sure, the guy can play, no argue about that, but no one ever mentions the sound guy here. The guy in charge of miking, recording and setting the amps is doing marvelous job. Every amp sounds great on almost every videos. Great job sound guy!

    The Triple Crown is truly the most versatile amp made by Mesa. It can play anything, has the most gain on tap of any Mesa's amp, 3 channels with midi, line out, Cab clone, headphones out, has a speaker on/off (resistive load), different voicing with 6L6/6V6/EL34 tubes, solo boost, reverb tank with adjustable level for each channel. It can almost make coffee and wash the dishes!

      I have the combo and head and it is all I use now. You can go from Fender, to Marshal, to Mark V all in one amp. The 3 channels give you a nice clean, crunch, and high gain as a base.

    • @danyeo
      @danyeo 2 года назад +1

      The lead channel of the Triple Crown has a smeared feel to it and it lacks bottom end, the Mark Series or a boosted Recto do metal a lot better…imho. I like the TC for classic rock/hard rock.

      Funny how the mark iv came out in 1991 and has everything the tc has except midi, cabclone and attenuation. In addition it has triode-pentode, class a/ab operation.

      I was auditioning a TC-50 against a JVM50 head and the moment I switched to the blue channel on the Mesa I said "well that's a modded JCM800". Suffice to say the Mesa came home with me.

    Got the Fillmore a month ago after a many long years of amp hunting and thousands of dollars. You name it i have tried it. Found this 2 channel amp that gives me perfect cleans like a blackface and then gives me two different levels of gain? It's perfect. I don't need pedals anymore. It has changed my amp life.

    • @jixxxxer17
      @jixxxxer17 4 года назад +1

      yeah but is there a footswitch to change between the 2 channels ? I have looked at photos i only see a reverb footswitch 1/4 inch input jack, am I wrong ? thanks

      @@jixxxxer17I also got a Fillmore 25 about a month ago - amazing, versatile amp! It comes with a foot-switch that plugs into the front panel just below the input jack. A separate reverb foot-switch is available and would plug in the back of the amp., but it comes with the Channel-Switching pedal - hope that helps.

      Hey JS. How would you compare the Fillmore to the LoneStar Special?

    • @realgoodmind
      @realgoodmind 4 года назад +1

      Darin Ames I would say they are a lot alike in the sense that they have a good clean and a good drive. Really depends if you prefer el84 or one of the 6’s as your power tube section. I like the drive on the lonestar more but the clean on the Fillmore more. But if you want higher gain then Fillmore gives you that you can go Mesa higher gain. I prefer the clean channel with the gain halfway and main all the way up and hitting it with a pedal

  • @paulcowart3174
    @paulcowart3174 4 года назад +10

    Even the complex chord structures shined through on the hi gain channel Boogie knocked it out of the park with the Triple Crown

  • @druwk
    @druwk 4 года назад +16

    California Tweed is a winner! I really like these Boogie’s! Boogie has always done high gain really well. And you can hear the boogie vibe in the high gain settings on the Fillmore and TC.
    I keep being haunted by the clean and edge of breakup tones of the Cali. Very sweet. There are other videos showing what the Cali sounds like being pushed by pedals...😋
    Like all great amp companies, they an identifiable vibe. In the case of these amps, the vibe isn’t so heavy that every guitar sounds the same.

  • @adamf.4823

    You can always hear a Mesa, it's this creamy yet explosive and dynamic exclamation point at the end of every note. It's almost a cartoonish quality but in the best way possible.

    That Mesa Boogie Fillmore has got to be the greatest sounding rock tone that I've ever heard...It produces such an enormously big, round and driven sound while remaining so articulate and clear.
    The first time I heard it was on this channel with Jack playing a review on a 1959 Epiphone Les Paul Standard.
    It was even better than this....Holy Sh$t !!!

    Yes, I am a Mesa player from way back, having bought my first Mk amp in the 80s. I still have a Nomad 55 4x10 and a Road King II. Let me tell you, the California Tweed is a whole different animal. And the addition of the Jensen Blackbird speaker is also a win for the tone. Just a great amp at every setting, and cool looking as a bonus. I have the head and 1x12 cab, and can’t say enough good about it. If you love classic Fender tone, but want a reliable amp to get it in, the CT is your ticket.

    Great demo. The Guitarist magazine vid on the tweed did the amp a disservice by dialing in an horrible fizzy blown speaker sound at the 2 watt setting. This demo was far better and, as everyone else has said, its inspiring to listen to someone who can actually play put a fine amplifier thru its paces as opposed to a bunch of noodling. Loved the comparison between the three mesas as well but the cali tweed is very tempting indeed. Cheers.

    OK I went back and listened a couple times and heard what I was looking for. I remember that time period...our guitarist in a blues band was looking for the ultimate tone, and sat in a San Francisco music store for hours… Comparing the Riviera with a Dr. Z. I think the only reason he took the Dr. was that the sales man said that the Riv...was built using a PCB.

    Who doesn't get on with Mesa Boogie amps? That's kind of strange since most of their amps are pretty flexible and easy to live with. You can change entire family of sounds by switching tubes (6l6/E34 etc and it's all self biasing just flip the switch etc etc). The Lone Star for example is a Fender, a Marshall, a Boogie and whatever else you want. A great chameleon amp. And most of their amps are actually. Can impersonate most any amp.

    I own a Lonestar 100 watts head with a 2 x 12 Rectifier cabinet; e.g. the Andy Timmons combination.
    I also have a Schecter stratocaster from Japan.
    If you guys like Andy Timmons' tone, it is all out of Lonestar amps, stereo nowadays, so 2 Lonestar sometimes the combo version.
    As it is more and more usual now, nobody uses the lead channel of their amplifier. It is all the clean + pedals.
    Andy also used the Stiletto deuce, which sound signature was typical of EL34's. However the Stiletto was discontinued.
    Now that we color our tone with pedals, all the shenanigans into the lead amplifier channels has lost its appeal. I don't know if you agree.
    I can basically vary my singing tone by alternating the pedals out of my clean channel, and get whatever suits my needs. With a lead channel, you can still add some subtlety with pedals, but you are stuck in the rut.

    • @PinchTune
      @PinchTune 4 года назад +1

      Pisk Six I don’t know man. Perhaps. Assuming we put modulation effects aside and focus solely on distortion and overdrive, I run a modded TS808 and a Fulltone OCD into my Lonestar’s (Classic 6L6) clean channel. I still prefer the drive channel 2’s sound to the clean with pedals. And these are two popular pedals. Now, if there is a magic pedal out there that can surpass that, I haven’t found it.

    Sounds better than the Dr. Z's they always use. The Z colors the guitar's tone too much, where you cant tell how the guitar should sound from a guitar demo.

    Why did you play with different guitars? It's hard to compare the amps.

      He’s talking about Dumble, Dumble started to get going in the 70’s and was “the guy” in the 80’s. Two-Rock launched in 1999. When he demos Talk to your daughter by Robben Ford on the third “drive” channel it’s a dead on ringer to the Dumble Overdrive Special. Go listen for yourself. Ford used the Dumble on just about everything. Awesome tone! Thank you Boogie for launching this!

      Yep, he means Dumble.
      The other boutique California maker of the 80s. His amps are insanely expensive now because he was always just a one-man shop. He never scaled up. This is a reliable clone that you can get for a reasonable price.
