- Rico Verhoeven has been toppling giants in a one-sided manner for a decade. Stepping in as a successor to the legends of K-1, the Dutch grenadier with model looks has defended the championship title a record 12 times and has even tried his hand at MMA. I don’t think i have seen a fighter who dealt with fame and success like Rico did. Did not got involved in drugs or legal troubles and kept his magnificent form throughout the years. That is a perfect fighter.

What I like about Rico is, he's a good sportsman and always a gentleman. And the heart he always put out to get punched at, yet always found a way through, was what makes him rememberable. A great champion and yes, he is true to his word - a great example for the kids. If only the kids of today were to follow that example, the world will become a much better place.
Rico is such a good role model for dutch kickboxing. Well spoken, respectfull and skills.

The 90's and 2000's had much better competition. Rico is one of the greatest. Let's not get carried away. K1 was the best. Best fighters. All in prime. Rico thought most of them when they had expired.

It's so nice to see such a humble man as a champion. I mean if you look at him he looks like a monster. Huge guy with 120 kg of muscle, always ready for an all out war, yet so well mannered. We need more champs like him

Why is everyone so hostile? They’re just appreciative that this channel has introduced them to kickboxing.
"The big kibosh" and "good night, Irene" shouts from Michael Schiavello will always hold a special place in my heart! Some of the narrator's similes from this channel remind me so much of Schiavello's commentary: "more hooks than a pirate convention," etc. I'll always tune in to whatever organization he happens to be working for. It's a bummer that One FC let him go, because I love the format of their fight cards, and he was the perfect accompaniment to their events. Also, Rico Verhoeven is a joy to watch fight. Crisp technique, power, and tough as nails.
I couldn't agree with you more, some ppl say they didn't like him how could you not he is the voice no better hype man when you hear his voice it jus makes the fights better, I started watching one FC because of him got absolutely hooked love there MMA rules set KB and Muay Thai, then they get there big Amazon deal and bring in someone else him n Mitch were a great team. Would love to see someone else take advantage of his talents

To me, what really stands out about Rico is his ability to take damage and keep on going. He takes some huge hits and setbacks sometimes, but he's consistantly able to weather the storm and often outlast his opponents, in pure conditioning if nothing else for a later win.
After watching all of that I really felt that spinning backfist. Brutal. Rico was a beast.

@@steefvanburen7985sports do that to people. Here in philippines, manny Pacquiao is a hero. In malaysia, lee chong wei is a hero (like literally recognized by the government - he has the datuk title which is given to heroes). Sports are huge man, u should check them out.

16:15 this version of Rico is nearly impossible to beat. I think this was right before the Anderson massacre too. He was the perfect kickboxer at this time. Gastank other worldly, perfect low kicks, and fantastic boxing with solid clinch work.

Sports is not just about athleticism. That man is dedicated, even goes back to analyze matches to improve, when he has won! I used to like Badr Hari, definitely a spectacular fighter, but he is the opposite outside the ring of Rico: A very bad boy. Grow up, Badr Hari, and become a MAN! Rico is a true gentleman, inside and outside the ring, and he would be that, whatever he did in life. God Bless and Shalom!

What a great video to watch from a die hard MMA fan who grew up watching the monsters of Pride and K1 clash and then switched over to UFC but never really followed the Glory days as much. This was a great way to catch up on the last 15+ years of kickboxing without having to watch every match individually. Just earned a like and subscribe from me which I never do.
Great video! It’s sad Rico doesn’t get the recognition he deserves outside kickboxing fans, one of the best fighters in the world.
How does he not get recognition? The nr 1 UFC heavyweight is his training partner because of his next level sparring and training
One of Rico's most defining characteristics is his ability to stick to a predetermined strategy. I have almost never, maybe with the exception of the fight against Saddik and Badr 2, seen him go completely crazy. He almost always and continuously fights to earn points, never hit his hardest punch. He's the definition of a smart fighter.
How can you not like this guy? Legend. Goat.

I'm usually someone that thinks nations and borders are worthless. But I have to admit that Rico Verhoeven and Max Verstappen make me proud to be Dutch. Both are showcasing the mentality in our culture. Use your head to achieve your goals and say whats on your mind.

Semmy Shilt doesn't get respect , he's the goat IMO. He was unstoppable at the late part of his career but had a heart condition that caused him to retire on top. I get he was 7 feet tall but he was fighting other giants in the biggest weight class in kickboxing available to him. Rewatch the last year's of his career, he is the 🐐 of kickboxing

I remember a Nosferatu movie where Klaus Kinsky played a creepy bold vampire. The movie was shot in Delft, the Netherlands. Still, when I walk through the old centre of Delft at night, I always get flashbacks of that Nosferatu movie. I was still a kid then and that vampire movie had big impact! I was a vampire fan from that day on. Hope this one will be as good as the one from 1979.
Mentally very tough not just physical. Fought intelligently. Setback and regained strength again. Brilliant stamina. Total respect. Yet handsome.
Even though I never fought and probably never successfully will due to health and weight problems, I deeply respect Rico and kickboxing. Truly a remarkable being and a gifted and hardworking talent

As a kickboxing fan, it’s tough to see people say, “I’ve never heard of him.” Kickboxing needs to become more international because the lack of knowledge of their best fighters is criminal. Rico’s accomplishments deserve more recognition.
If Pereira had never gone to the UFC, people would be saying the same thing about him: “I never heard of him.” Even as a two-division Glory champion. Not only that, but they would probably say he’s not even that good… clearly that’s not the case.
You watch any Rise and K-1 recently ?
@someboi4903 I try to catch as much Japanese kickboxing as possible but it’s difficult for me, being in America and not being awake while their events are live. Plus, I have to use a VPN to watch them on Abema TV if I actually am awake. Also, if I discover new fighters that I like, the commentary is in Japanese so I can’t really learn more about them.
Glory Gelredome events are bigger then any ufc event in capacity that has been held in its entire history.
