i swear dave has to be going to open a retail shop soon to sell just his own gear , otherwise he's going to be sleeping in his van down by the river , love the hiwatt ....
Congrats mate! My teacher of Electronics played guitar and used to say like a lullaby "if you love a good Vox you will like Hiwatt. If you like a good Vox you will love Hiwatt."
Cheers on the upcoming milestone! I'd suggest a top ten list video, with you choosing your ten favorite videos you made over the years (10 best or one each year) and the why. Sounds like homework, but I think it could be an interesting video as you'd take it seriously. Could also be fun for you as well.
I vote for some swag: calendars with pics, virtual and real, mugs, t-shirts, even custom pick guards and head-stock decals. Also, a dvd iso full of your best intros and outros would be inspiring, edookayschunal, and very useful as practice tracks. A dvd of gear demo vids would make a great buyers guide...how about Queenie and JonJon making some bass+drum practice /jam-along backing tracks? The next ten years? The best is surely yet to come! And yeah, you deserve all 200 watts!
Dave, Another great Road Trip, made even better because you collected a new amp! As a retired physics teacher I get geeky around technical stuff and so I was prompted to comment on your remarks about the perceived loudness (sound pressure) of amps (excuse me if you already know this stuff - but hopefully it's useful to you and your viewers!). Our hearing (and other senses too) work on a logarithmic scale. Take a 10W amp on full volume as your starting point, then you might think that to get twice the perceived volume (sound pressure) you'd need a 20W amp - but you'd be wrong. No, to get to this level you'll need a10W x 10W = 100W (= 10 squared - ie 10 to the power of 2). So, is your 200W HiWatt twice as loud as a 100W amp - no! To get this loud you'll need 100W x 100W = 1000W ! All things being equal a 200W amp is only 15% louder than a 100W amp. A 100W amp is a good compromise between clean headroom and the ability to get the power output valves into sweet overdrive. A 200W amp gives you about 15% more clean headroom and so makes a better pedal platform, but there's not much in it. Using the reasoning above, your 200W HiWatt is only 44% louder than my Marshall DSL40 (at 40W). Isn't science amazing?! Malcolm.
@@malcolmporter4173 OK thanks. So to double the loudness of a 100W amp you need 10,000W? Is this right? I get the logarithmic thing 1 10 100 10,000. Interesting stuff.
@@robjones7725 No. Sorry, I've not explained this very well, have I? Been retired too long! To be clear - to double the PERCEIVED Volume of an amp you need to multiply its power by 10. To get double the loudness of a 100W amp you will need to use a 10 x 100W = 1000W amp.
It's not everyone's cup of tea I know and this is a bit selfish of me but I'd like a lil bit of your anniversary to mention your CBT triumphs and how they have helped you to progress in music and life. Yeah, I do suffer with my Mental Health and I find you quite the inspiration, so up front, thankyou. As an aside, I think Andertons should give you a free guitar as a present.
Whenever I see you with these big amps and cabs I always start hankering after one. But my wife who is normally tolerant of my guitar and gear collecting would have a fit if I tried to sneak one of these in
Old McDavey had a farm, ee-aye ee-aye-o And on that farm he had some ducks, ee-aye ee-aye-o With a moo moo here and a moo moo there Here a moo, there a moo, everywhere a moo moo...😁
Amazing sounding amp. Now about the 10 year anniversary, i agree with one comment. A live gig for us sub's, especially us who haven't had the pleasure to hear a whole set of THE TRIO'S own music, also stops any copyright because you guys wrote them. Maybe an odd track from other bands like Bread van by Budgie, mostly because of the main riff, it's amazing and tbh i don't know many guitarist who can pull that riff off like Tony did. Or it could be simple but sound complicated, I NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS lol. So yes live set from THE TRIO doing you're own music, with a Budgie track lol, i doubt you'll get a copyright on that song tbh. Great vid as always. 🤠✌️
East coast D1 signature anniversary model, or for those further down the food chain (like me) some pick's please with the gravy logo; these would fly off the online shop! Kept going, you keep me going!
Inspired by just after 7 minutes and your clean EQ settings: We don't need no valve amplifiers We don't need no bass control . . . It sounds excellent, particularly on the clean channel, helped (as always) by the quality of the playing. I hope it gets on well with your pedals.
I bet my pro bass-playing pal in NY state would love to play with you Dave, because one of his stock lines as a low-end merchant is "stay outa my register!" - and you clearly do.😆 Great-sounding head there. LOUD! Nice find. Oh and Happy 10th year. Looking forward to seeing how you decide to mark the occasion.
I guess that it does worth it that you get the best microphone possible to capture your room sound as close to as you hear as possible. I really wish that.
Ive been using a marshall mg10 cd that I've cut up and am now running as a head into a vox 1 x 12 cab but Im not a fan of the tone any recommendations for a low watt SSD or hybrid amp head?
The Amp sounds great back.in the 70'sHiwatt was one of the first metal sounds I ever heard a friend had a custom 100watt Hiwatt he would at times use 2 6x12 cabs very loud yes! 6X12 cabs! not 4x12's
Cool amp looking forward to seeing the full review… here are few suggestions for doing RUclips for a decade… 1 Top 10 comments… 2 Top 10 best pedals.. 3 Top 10 videos… 4 Top 10 pieces of guitar gear you regret buying… hope these help!🙂👍🎸
Hi Dave. Plug your new les paul through full stack 200w head. For 10year anniversary I think having a gig for subscribers would’ve been amazing. I’d come without a doubt and I think majority of us here would as well.
I have been a solid-state amp user all my guitar-playing life, but I want a Hiwatt. When I had the Fender Mustang V V2 head, I used the Hiwatt model 98% of the time, and it sounded quite good. I know the new Hiwatt incarnation has a pretty decent-sounding solid-state lineup (based on the few RUclips demos I could find), and it partially appeals to me. But I've got my first tube amp on order right now (a Marshall), so we'll see how that goes. A vintage Hiwatt (and cab) would be my dream amp, though.
My bro in law was a big weed smoker in the 90's In Andover Artist way, He took me to a house to have tea, , Sit have a smoke. My Brother, I should come with cos the guys like really into amps, It happened to be my school friends Dad.. Went I walked through the door maybe in 93, There were amps in pieces in every room and every corrider, Kitchen, hall, Bedroom , living room, He was I guess Mr Hiwatt, He showed me Freddie Mercurys amp. He didnt know what to do with it, As he just passed, He had a amp being fixed that was Claptons, Still no his son, His Dad passed away maybe 8 years ago or longer
I would wholeheartedly recommend trying to find one of the 2x10 20 watt high watt combo (valve) made in the late 90s, unbelievable amps also really bloody loud …
Hi dave how about something special on your 10th anniversary man I have really enjoyed the ride its been awesome the journey from old hat to the present day
Dave, I noticed the Hiwatt display (very briefly) on peoples Birmingham Exhibition vlogs. It would have been good to cover them. Surprised no one didn't! Congrats on the 10 years, why not do a 'From then to now' resume?
200 horse power amp‼️ If I had a place to jam with a 200watt amp .. look out neighbor’s miles away. And btw : take it to that yearly Drum Off and I doubt ppl will be close to you on stage…
Hi Dave hope your keeping well just wondering if you can help me out I’ve got the hiwatt maxwatt G100RHD it’s a great amp and I’m really happy with it although trying to find things out about it is. Like looking for rocking horse shit lol I mean can find the combo version reviews no problem but not much on the HD model. I’m after a fs301 pedal for it can’t seam to find one and when I do it’s so not available. Just wondering if there is another way maybe with a A/B pedal or similar. The original pedal has three switches and two cables coming out of it any help would be much appreciated thanks in advance al the best Dino 🎸
Happy You Tube broadcasting birthday Dave ! How about a ''Principles of Improv '' vid to celebrate ? Maybe with another musician of similar You Tube vintage . Is a Palm Mute a guy who's dumb that can't use sign language ? I'll get me coat.
Dave Simpson, Ian Anderson - same guy? Maybe, probably. They went to different high schools together and you never see them at same place at the same time! 🤔
For the 10 year anniversary, you and Cici and the band need to hold a concert just for us subscribers!
Sounds like a plan!
Absolutely, and to get away from copyright i would love to hear their own music, what a gig that would be
I was about to comment an idea, but yeah, this is it.
In America
i swear dave has to be going to open a retail shop soon to sell just his own gear , otherwise he's going to be sleeping in his van down by the river , love the hiwatt ....

So did David Gilmour.

Hiwatt amps always make me think of Townsend with the Who....he used to play those amps and loved them.

Thanks for posting!

Last time I checked, 100x100 = 10,000. You may well have meant 10x100 = 1,000W or apples, or pears or bananas.
@@robjones7725 Ha ha - you're not wrong there! Thanks for the correction. I meant 100W x 100W. The physics is still correct however.

That makes more sense. 10,000W to double the volume of a 100W amp is crazy. Therefore, it's base 10 i.e. 1 10 100 1000 10,000 etc Thanks, good chat.
