- Nice early cover version of a song written by Leon Payne (as Pat Patterson) and first recorded by Loy Clingman for Phoenix, Arizona Liberty Bell records. Clingman's version was leased to Dot and Kirk's version to ABC-Paramount. Kirk made a rerecording of the song in late 1960's for Chart label Great subsidiary.

This guy is my great grandfather. I wish I could have met him.
Craig Land He had a helluva croon.
Craig, I'm interested in his story. Do you know anything more about him?
"Et Tu Brutus?"
@@MrMellowTV I don't know much about him. All I know is that after he stopped playing music, he worked for a radio station. I could ask my grandmother about him if you want to know more.
Are you his Grandson??
Wonderful Song 👍🙏
Incredible song. Done by some of the best in the music world. Its remarkable.
Let's just take a moment to appreciate how clear that natural reverb of the tube amp is.
Modern equipment cant hold a candle to vintage. *period*
This song is cool !😊
I like this version was more than Red’s other one. This song is so much better stripped down.
Happy Birthday Grandpa Red
Like it, great voice with lots feeling and emotion. Cracking track👍
Sandford Clark's version is the best by far... Obscure sound for obscure lyrics
Soulless
@@starwarsman05 its a murder ballad...
I like loy Clingman's version
I like the Clingman version and the Sanford Clark version. Apples and oranges, there... This one's not bad either.
I agree, Sanford's version is the best
I forgot to mention that Dick Curless also did this. This song has had some good singers doing it.
Dick is from Maine. Hes a good old Mainer ... or was.
Hermosa, lo escucho desde Lima-Perú.
I love this song! I think it was also recorded by Loy Clingman, Sanford Clark, Lee Hazelwood, and The Sadies. Thanks for sharing ;o)
and Jim Reeves.
Most recently Charlie Crocket
The Abigails
And most recently, Goldie Dawn ⚡️

killer tune for sure
Johnny Winter's version is the best of all.
this is quite great!
So many versions and this one is for sure a tie with the clingman version
I’ve played the Sanford Clark version a few times a day since I first heard it, today I ordered the Clark vinyl and decided to give the other recordings a chance. Hard choice, I’ll have to put them all three in a playlist and listen as one long song lol.
It was written by Pat Patterson who was friends with all those fellas in Phoenix like Sanford Clark and Loy Clingman at Viv Records. (Al Casey is on guitar for one of the Loy Clingman versions) Pat also wrote "Blue Side Of Lonesome", "I Love You Because", and over 200 more songs.
Real country western should of been in new Vegas
❤️
Not bad, but nowhere near Sanford Clark or Loy Clingman. But Kirk did another interesting country song, "Red Lipped Girl" ("Go away, Satan, take your red-lipped girl"), which is well worth hearing: ruclips.net/video/aXcVkz7_ba4/видео.html. It's from 1956.
👍🏿
Jim Reeves had a very good version of this also.
Country used to tell stories and not suck...
