Thanks for your kind review. A few remarks:
    - playing nothing but Events yields considerable advantage and flexibility to the other player, who is free to do Ops + Special Activity every time without losing the tempo that ought to remove him from doing that. It's something people usually don't try in more than one game.
    - Subvert and Ambush are two powerful FLN tools that need underground Guerrillas; he can pick on the Algerian cubes without French interference or quick retribution (Subvert does not Activate the Guerrilla) and Ambush is a good way to pick off French Troops if the Government player has carelessly left them in a Sector without Police to absorb casualties (also, you do not lose the Guerrilla into the bargain).
    - I did create a 2-player variant for any of the 4-player COIN system games. I also made a 4-player variant for Colonial Twilight, if you want to try 2 teams of 2!
    - This is the third strategic level game ever designed on the French Algerian war, an obscure war (for Americans at least). Besides this, I also designed the first such game, "Algeria", which partly inspired Volko Ruhnke to create the COIN system!

Yeah I agree. At first glance it seems powerful, then you realise its limitations. Good to know the background to COIN, I wasn't aware of that!

@@WiseGuyHistory A lot of people seem fascinated by the events and play them a lot when starting to play COIN games; more experienced players don't seem to do it as much though it does depend on the game state at the moment and sequence the cards come out. COIN system variants are at brtrain.wordpress.com/scenarios-and-variants/ Thanks!

@@briantrain6315 This variant seems excellent, especially as I was just looking at getting A Distant Plain as my first COIN game, though to play as a 2-player. Thanks!

Well, I hope you try it out at least! It's not extensively tested but it's not a really viable way to play the game either.@@saviloic

Nathan, really enjoyed this new 'review' format, would love to see more content like this. My feed is to full of unboxings rather than actual thoughtful analytical content theese days!
    Thanks

Awesome review. CT is not my favorite COIN. Some of the reasons are pointed out by you. I appreciate your comparison with other COIINs.
