  • I'm back for the finale part 3 of my "The Ordinary Shopping Guide" where I share a researched look at the products on the Ordinary. When I first used the website, I found it difficult and confusing to navigate. If you've experienced this, keep watching as I dissect the "Hydrators & Oils" and "More Molecules": what you should buy, and what you should skip based on the ingredients and actives for these products. If you're interested in the Vitamins and Retinoids or Direct Acids hop over to part 1 & 2 (link below). My views are specifically for anti-aging so this is where it'll be most helpful. However, the general research I discuss will be helpful for other skin concerns like acne as well! OPEN FOR MORE+++

    Hi Joanna, you are such a well spoken young lady. Your explanation is very helpful about skin care. I started watching some of your past video within the last 2 weeks and find many subjects you talked about very informative. Your Ordinary Buying Guide opening my eyes to skin care which I never even knew or thought of. My whole life regiment has just been cleanse, tone, moisturize and sun block, I'm now 49. Since I had watched HotandFlashy and then found you it gave me a better understanding how I should take more care of my skin as I get older. Thank you so much for these video. I look forward to learning more about the different products from your explanation.

    the advantage of the squalene oil is that it is a stable oil - the others you discuss are not, therefore as soon as they are opened they start to deteriorate and his happens rapidly. Unless you use the oils within a fairly short period of time, any benefits will be completely lost, which is not something beauty brands inform their customers of. The Squalene however being stable is more suitable if you are not going to use it heavily and quickly. The only other oil that is stable is coconut.

    This "3 part mini series", haha, is the best review I've heard anywhere on the Ordinary. I do remember you purchased a Niod product. I think it was cooper peptides. I used a serum with these ingredients in the past and found they plumped my skin in a good way , calmed my skin of any redness and gave me a radiance that was noticable. Im looking forward to hearing what your results are. The last one I used was great I just could not justify the price.

    Thank you so much for creating this series. I'm late to the game with The Ordinary products (and skin care in general), but your videos were still very relevant a year later. I really enjoyed hearing your research-based knowledge about the actives that the Ordinary offers. I quickly sucked into the hype based on results of others, but I'm so glad that I listened to the science-based research you found. I was able to make better decisions about what my skin actually needs, and what these products actually do vs. making decisions based on the results of others. Thank you!

    The caffeine solution has been very helpful for my undereye allergy puffiness... with no irritation. I put a little squalane oil on top to give extra moisturization needed during allergy season also. The squalane oil also helps the extra concealer spread smoothly.

    The thing about HAs is that if you live in a humid climate it will pull moisture from the air, but if you live in a dry climate it pulls moisture from your body. I think there are enough HAs in my other products that I wouldn't purchase the HA separately.

      @LogicvsLuxury  7 лет назад +1

      Good point! i forgot to mention that in my video, but this is somtehing I've read as well! I don't know if it holds true in a scientific setting but it should certainly give those in dry climates pause... or at least the urge to put on some heavy duty occlusive product! thank you for the reminder!

Being a guy, I just wanted something to keep my skin hydrated because I have combination skin type. I think with today’s buyers, we want to know what’s in our product so we can just research if its right for us. I think ordinary does a good job at that. Thanks for the detail guide Joanna! Yet another great video. Thank you sooo much! At this moment, I am only using NMF. But as you also mentioned, it comes in such a small bottle. I would like your opinion on this moisturizer vs the NMF of the ordinary, based on ingredients only. It's from ceramedx and these are the ingredients: Aqua, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, glyceryl stearate SE, cetearyl alcohol, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, glycerin, cetearyl olivate, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), sorbitan olivate, dimethicone, ceramide NP, lecithin, phospholipids, glycine soja (soybean) sterols, cannabis sativa (hemp) seed oil, rosa canina (rose hip) fruit oil, sodium hyaluronate, tocopherol, laminaria ochroleuca (kelp extract, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, panthenol, allantoin, hydrolyzed soy protein, ulva lactuca (sea lettuce) extract, ascorbic acid, glyceryl caprylate, potassium cetyl phosphate, glyceryl undecylenate, sorbitol, citric acid, xanthan gum, ethylhexylglycerin, phenoxyethanol. I really hope you are willing to comment... I believe I have asked this in another one of your video's alsy, but I saw this later and thought it would be better related here.

Just came from someone younger who grabbed all of the hottest trendsetter items & said nothing worked except the Buffet. Wow - this is the best explanation of the differences between oils I’ve ever heard. I knew rose-hip was good for oilier skin, but I didn’t understand it’s because of the ratio of oleic vs linoleic. I have the Amino hydration booster but I’m not sure it’s working (only tried it once). Do you talk about how to layer or incorporate these into a routine? For example, if I’m using the 10% lactic acid at night, should it be straight on, not over the buffet? That way it can penetrate the skin better. Thanks!!

    For the longest time I was so scared using oils in my face. I knew coconut oil was a no no for me. So I was scared of trying out oils. I gave marula oil a try and it made me so happy to find out that it didn't break me out. Alpha arbutin clogged a blackhead and created a yuckiest pimple (massive pimple). 🙃 hope it helps

      Hi! Thank you :) I'm wearing Nyx's soft matte lip cream in Copenhagen (but I like to apply and then blot it off). It's a great colour whether you wear it flat out or blot it out, but it's definitely not long lasting. My only reservation! This color and Stockholm are my two fave lipstick shades like ever... but just the wear does not hold up to matte lipsticks for example.

    Do you have an opinion on stable vs. unstable oils? Some information I am reading says to avoid any polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs...including linoleic acid and most seed oils) because even if they are kept fresh on the shelf they may become rancid IN our body from the heat, and contribute to free radicals and skin aging. Beautyeditor.ca advises to use stable oils like coconut oil instead. I use the squalane as opposed to the other oils like rosehip because of this. But I'm not sure if this concern is unfounded, or maybe a fringe opinion. Any thoughts?

    • @LogicvsLuxury
      @LogicvsLuxury  7 лет назад +1

      Oh this is interesting! I have not really heard of this coming from any other sources.. on the contrary, usually i hear that coconut oil is a bit too comedogenic for daily use. i'll have to do a bit more research on this. in general, i agree that you should not use expired products, but rosehip seed oil (at least the one from the Ord) has a 1 year shelf life (IIRC). I believe the point in general is a good one, and actually may be a good reason to try another product like Marula which is more stable... especially if you're like me.. there's almost no way i'm going to get through the bottle i have before it goes bad! maybe if i stored in the fridge ha. Definitely, if you start noticing any of your products turn (smell, colour), recommend tossing instead of saving the money!

    • @gwen9166
      @gwen9166 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply! I have heard the same about comedogenicity of coconut oil. Having acne-prone skin but also wanting to avoid PUFAs as a precaution in case the instability argument has merit puts me between a rock and a hard place! I am looking into it too, and will reply back here if I find anything convincing either way.

    Hola. I have oily acne prone skin and use oral and topical prescriptions for it. Last year I got DE Marula oil during a sale and loved it. I actually finished the bottle so fast. I recently ordered the Ordinary version to compare. I have their rosehip oil and I don't enjoy it as much as the DE marula. Sometimes you just have to try different things and listen to what your skin enjoy 😊

  • @angeleyeslubsyou
    @angeleyeslubsyou 7 лет назад

    Hello ! I was wondering if you could answer this for me.
    I have VERY sensitive and acne prone skin. I also fall more on the oily side.
    I know there's a difference between hydrators and moisturizers and I currently have neither. (quick background info I use the Cetaphil Daily face wash and LOVE IT as well as the Klairs Supple Toner. I was using the Vit. C from klairs but it slightly oxidized and now I can't use it.) (so i'm only on a wash and tone routine!)
    Anywhhoooo
    What would your opinion be on Buffet, Matrixyl 10% +HA, HA 2% + B5, and the Natural moisturizer +HA ?
    Buffet has Matrixyl 300 and HA components as well so I'm not sure if less (products) is more here?
    Otherwise, would you advise I a separate combination of the two?
    (I do have other products in mind to buy but these are the few I can't decide between)
    Niacinamide and MAP nightly as well as the Lactic Acid 5% +HA 1-2 times weekly.
    Thank you in advance if you decide to respond!
    I've loved your videos in this little series and subscribed too! Thank you for not filling your videos with too much BS and talking facts !

    • @LogicvsLuxury
      @LogicvsLuxury  7 лет назад

      hello! i would suggest to be open to trying diff things until you find something you like, but i would start with the Buffet instead of the other products. If you're looking for a moisturizer, the NMF could be good. I also really like First Aid Beauty's ultra repair cream (on a per oz. basis, it's way cheaper too).
      For evening, i do love the niacinamide and use it in my routine (you can go view my evening routine video). i personally did not love the LA 5% but that's just my personal experience finding it very itchy! i think it could be fine for others.

    Everyone keeps talking about your location being the factor wether HA will work for you or now, but my questions are...
    Does it work over time or is there no build up and you can get a result with one time use?
    If you get quick results can you not put it on before a hot steamy shower for an important evening or, or a few times a week for a treatment?

    do you know of any products that would help with thin skin under the eyes?

    • @LogicvsLuxury
      @LogicvsLuxury  7 лет назад +1

      depends on what your issue is under the eyes! i'm afraid if it's hereditary thin skin, you can only really rely on concealer. if it's hereditary puffiness from fat deposits... here again, clever use of concealer! (not directly on the puffs but under the puffs this time). i do not know of any product that can change that!

      TO caffeine for puffiness under eyes and wrinkles on mobile lid.TO Squalene to make concealer go on and stay on all day. Love both for my eye program. I do not have problems but then I am way older than the reviewer.

      i think don't be afraid to moisturize heavily esp. in the evening! even in the daytime, use a solid moisturizer. the more you moisturize, the better luck you may have in balancing your dry patches and even regulating your oil production. i think First Aid Beauty ultra repair cream is a great, rich, and inexpensive moisturizer for the face (and body)

    I've been using the Argireline solution for a month now to fight wrinkles on the forehead and crows feet around the eyes. I can see minimal changes and I'm not sure if they're caused by other products I've recently introduced in my skincare routine. I will continue to use it because I'm still hesitant about Botox. I'd rather smooth out my wrinkles slowly than get a shot of Botox and make them magically disappear. But my aesthetician told me if I really want to get rid of crows feet, Botox is the way to go. So I guess you're right in that these creams and serums can only do so much.

    • @ElisabethOberndorfer
      @ElisabethOberndorfer 7 лет назад +1

      Btw, I'm using the HA 2% even though I have other products with HA. It really plumps up your skin, more than with the moisturizing factors cream. The only thing the moisturizing factors are lacking in my opinion is SPF. And I've also been using the Caffeine solution. I don't actually know what's causing my under eye circles (other than turning 30 :D ) but it has brightened my under eye area a little bit.

      +Elisabeth Oberndorfer i also found the HA 2% B5 is more powerful than their other serums that contain HA, including their NMF HA

      haha i love kristen wiig and if i ever were an actress, that is the type of actress i'd be... i.e., the awkward, funny lady who can do an occasional dramatic scene but never the centre of media attention ;)

    just wish you didn't "pass" on most of the things i've ordered...
    i'm still hoping on good results on my dry ageing skin with:
    Argireline10%, Alpha Arbutin, HA2% + B5, Marula Oil, and EUK134 i'm sure you mention somewhere else,
    all that wrapped up with my regular moisturizing cream.
    we'll see what goes on!

    Thank you for the explanations and use information. I enjoy the results of the Buffet however my matte foundation would lose it "matteyness" by days end. Going forward I will just use the Buffet. i wish their website was easier to navigate and understand. Also I created a Shopping List playlist which I share with friend & family...so adding yours.

      Their High Adherence Silicone Primer is quite mattifying. My glowy tinted sunscreen even looks a bit satiny-matte because of the primer.

      Thanks for the info and sharing your experience! I haven't used it yet but man my skin has been dry lately with flying and change of climate. I could use some less matteyness hehe

    I buy all of my oils and many other cosmetic products from New Directions Aromatics online. The prices are really good, even compared to The Ordinary. I found them a few years ago. I am not associated with the company in any way, just a fan.

      I mention this company because paying for and shipping a half ounce or buying the tiny bottles at Whole Foods, etc. seems such a shame when I can often get 3.3 ounces or more for the same price online, and it's beautiful stuff. You mentioned in another video that you don't sweat. I don't either, so I use coconut oil mixed 50/50 with palmarosa essential oil as a fantastic deodorant, better than any commercial brand and I tried them all. Plus my underarms are very soft and you can apply any excess on your hands on knees or anywhere that's dry. My skin isn't sensitive and I've never oil stained my clothing because it sinks in fast. Other essential oils also have anti-bacterial properties and work just as well, but I don't want to smell like oregano. I buy a 33.3 ounce container of palmarosa for $65 and it will last for maybe 4 years. The last one I bought in 2014 isn't close to gone yet and essential oils don't go bad. The only caveat is with this company you have to buy a minimum $100 order (they mostly supply soapmakers, etc.), but with the large bottles I order only every few years, it isn't bad. Thanks for your reviews. I appreciate them and am a new subscriber.

    Your review has made me realize that younger( say under 40) woman do not seem to have same issues older woman do and so your reviews might not apply to me. Make sure your viewers take your age into consideration.

    I enjoy the content on your channel but your delivery is a little off feeling. Like you’re reading from a cue card or something and seem a little uncomfortable and awkward speaking on camera? There’s not a lot of inflection in your voice so you sound a little bored sometimes.

    Your reviews are both unfair and trashy, given that you bash the Ordinary products and talk about them WITHOUT even trying them.
    Even if you defend your actions by saying you're talking research and thus you're playing the scientist, girl, you're forgetting a huge thing: A product costs like 7 dollars, like nothing, you're buying a fairly priced high quality product, not an aircraft!!!
    You should be a politician :)

      Literally, so dumb. Did you even watch the video? She doesn't bash any of the products. Even if it's inexpensive, if you bought everything in their line, you'd be out a few hundred dollars. Even the Ordinary's website says to only use 3 products at a time.
