    The thing I realized about the Welfin scene that I love is that it didn’t save the world or anything as grand as that. The king was already affected by the poison in the bomb. The only thing that Welfin saved is the King and himself and yet the show is able to make it feel like that is an even greater achievement.

    Welfin's primal fear induced breakdown is one of the most unforgettable anime scenes I've ever seen, the distorted imagery onscreen looks like the inside of a mind on the verge of total collapse, so well done.

    This episode is another example of that thing I love about HxH: anyone can make a massive impact, whether it's in a story or in real life. Welfin isn't a major character. He barely even qualifies as a minor character. He's a side character to a side character (Ikalgo) in the latter fraction of a massive arc. But that doesn't matter. His overthinking, paranoid nature was exactly what was necessary to help the King in this moment, and he was the best choice narratively. Most authors (especially shounen authors) would have found a way for one of the bigger characters to hold the claim of being the one to restore the King's memory, but that's just not how circumstances and coincidences work.

    I love your commentaries. As an aspiring writer, I love dwelling into character's perspective and mindset. Really nice

    I know it seems cheap but it’s honestly refreshing to see nuclear weapons get the proper fear and respect they deserve in an anime. With characters that can literally shrug off a blast, it’s crazy to see how in this story they, like anything else that would encounter such a weapon, are doomed.

    In episode 123 you said "Ikalgo is Welfin's Pitou; that is kind of sad. He might lose all his hair." I still don't even understand what you meant by that but I am terrified about how accurate that turned out.

    if beauty is found before death, is it any less beautiful? death comes for us all, and while it's usually not through bomb poison we all have limited time with what we can do with our lives, even the King.

    This contains my favorite scene in all of HxH. When Meurem tells Welfin that he hopes he can live as a human as Pouf collapses in defeat, that is the moment the protagonist of the arc defeats the antagonist of the arc. It recontextualizes everything in the best way possible.

    I think you probably have one of the best interpretations of this episode.
    12:31 - 13:24 This is a great metaphor, it perfectly explains how Meruem is feeling and why he's not mad at Pouf.
    16:11 I've seen a lot of people get confused by this conclusion, but I agree that the intention is clearly going in this direction. Meruem has awakened, he knows what's important, and none of our weaknesses will hold him back any longer.
    I've been waiting a long time for this reaction and I'm not disappointed.

    Do not underestimate humans, any human can become like meruem, in terms of the rawest most abstract potential. Is it the best response to get revenge? To hit or insult or attack when insulted or attacked? two responses, a cycle of revenge and law enforcement happen? Logical self serving one. Does the other person deserve it? Moral pure one, illogical from my perspective, thing that morals and lack of morals should be determined by logic. But meruem is drunk on morals. Actually you too i think. its just if you look as deep as much as you can go, there is no benefit to helping people for yourself, unless there is, it is determined by what you can get from it. Meruem and thorfinn are extremes in terms of overwhelming potential, while following morals blindly, or to an extent that they thought is enough.

    I don't know if you have already watched it but If possible, find a version of episode 135 without the "next time on Hunter X Hunter" at the end. The episode was made for broadcast and since there is no broadcast. The ending clashes horribly with the final moments of the episode. Technically, there is supposed to be a commercial break between the ending of the episode and the "Next time" bumper.

      Nah the jarring reaction to the happy music is now a staple in HxH reactions lol. The emotional whiplash is a part of the experience

    These rose bombs are truly horrifying, anyone that survives the initial blast ends up becoming contaminated causing even more widespread death and destruction as survivors try to flee and seek refuge, not knowing they're now a carrier for this fatal easily contagious poison. At least with radiation there's no risk of survivors irradiating other people around them after exposure.

    Really like how you interpret Pouf.
    The first time I watched, I feel annoyed by him, but more time I watch, I love him as a character more. What a tragedy character he is.
    While the King. Yesssss, that's what I think and not many people got the same answer as mine. He is BOTH and NEITHER! He is something above all yet both Chimera Ant that evolved to the pinnacle and humanity that civilized and merciless.

    He only had to hear her name to see all the universe, the golden butterflies start their fly, the white roses bloom and see all the paintings of the world
    Only took her name to be heard to remember the sound of being with Komugi, in his perception he saw him with Komugi in the eden garden where the light that illuminates all resides, a paradise that only her name could evoke
    (so sorry for any mistake English isn't my mother language)

    To be fair, Meruem only became like this because he fought Netero and he is dying. He knows that he has only a little time left and therefore doesn't care to kill any more people. If Netero had not used the bomb to kill and poison Meruem, I doubt that Meruem would act the way he does here.

      Yeah.....in the end of a day Meruem is still king of the chimera ant's but him now dying means that he failed as a king therefore liberating from this responsibility.So now he has only two choises:dying while lamenting and cursing everything and everyone,or dying while spending the rest of his time with the one he loves;he choose the second......the ultimate tragedy in all of this is that none of the royal guard's were able to overcome their nature.Even while showing the glimpses of potential to become something more in the end they all reverted back to being a simple royal guard's.Pitou while developing a genuene compassion for other's still thinking only about the king at the end and even became a simple meat puppet for king after her death!Youupi also developed a respect for his enemies and learned how to control his anger,regret's everything after seeing what happend to king and even revert's back losing his transformation into centavrus.And Pouf is just down spiral of madness .....King weren't liberated from his duty by himself but by Netero.....in the end arguably the best conclussion was possible only because the most drastic measures was taken ..

    The personal interpretation I always had (and I have no idea if the manga/Togashi confirms or denies this in any way) is that Gyro became Meruem after the ants attacked the NGL. From that point of view it makes the dialogue between Welfin and Meruem at the very end even more resonant.

    • @djf4549
      @djf4549 День назад +5

      Gyro is an ant, but he was not the king. It was shown in the manga that he was in the same town as Gon and Killua while they were looking for Knuckles

    • @keito204
      @keito204 День назад +2

      They cut lots of content with Gyro for anime, cuz they knew they would never get around to it. He’s very much been setup as a super endgame villain in the manga though.
