  • The Fujifilm X-Pro Line a staple in the Fujifilm World. It's how it all started, it's the only camera named PRO, it's the "poor men's Leica"... It's a lot of things.
    Well, I believe Fuji should make this even more complicated by dramatically innovating its design, leaving behind some of the things that made this camera famous.
    Please do not consider my ideas as rumors, the only trusted source for rumors is ‪@FujiRumorsOfficial‬ . Mine are predictions and hopes.
    Let's find out what i predict, what I want, and what Fuji should be doing in my opinion.

      I'd prefer an EVF with the same body. Sure you can can just get an XT series, but I have a bigger nose, so the EVF position in a pro body like that would be perfect.

    Nice to see you again Luca. I’m still using the X-T4 and I’m more than happy with it, I don’t have any intentions of upgrading to the X-T5 or the X-H’s, but if the Xpro-4 is everything you mentioned, I’ll buy it, not to replace anything, but it sounds like a great new toy to have. Be well and stay safe.

    You don’t want an X-Pro camera. You just want it to be like all the other cameras, but in that case… what’s the point of the X-Pro? Just use the X-T series instead. They seem to do what you want.
    I disagree sinplifying the OVF in the 3 is removing pro features. For me the larger OVF was a huge improvement over the 2, espescially for people who wear glasses (like myself). The OVF is much larger and works really well for me in anything from 23mm (35mm equiv) to 50mm (75mm equiv). And it even works reasonably well with 18mm (28mm equiv). This is pretty close to what Leica does.
    EVFs just aren’t the same. The OVF is main reason for the existence of the X-Pro line for me. I don’t want to look at a screen when I take photos. If anything I think Fuji should consider an OVF-only X-Pro camera.
    As for the screen. X-Pro line *is* the one where Fuji make niche designs that don’t target a wide audience. They got all the other cameras for stuff that have super wide appeal.
    The flippy screen does *not* allow for the same efficient workflow as the X-Pro3. The X-Pro3 let’s me keep the screen hidden most of the time, but allow me to *very quickly with a single motion* bring out the screen for a waist level shot and the as quickly hide the screen again. *No other camera allows for this efficient way of shooting.*
    As for battery life: if you use OVF and don’t use the LCD much you actually have pretty good battey life on the 3. :)

    • @LucaPetraliaPhotography
      @LucaPetraliaPhotography  10 месяцев назад +1

      I get your point and it makes sense if you use the OVF a lot. If I were in your spot I would share the same opinion.
      I wouldn't however agree on the battery and the screen. The battery has to be the new one, no questions asked.
      The screen, in the solution like the Sony A7RV would allow for the best of both worlds, letting you shoot with the hidden screen, and others shoot in a more flexible way.
      The reason I want a modern rangefinder style camera is because the viewfinder on the left of the camera makes a lot of sense from a shooting experience standpoint. Regardless of the type of viewfinder we're talking about

    • @torb-no
      @torb-no 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@LucaPetraliaPhotography I get the appeal of the viewfinder placement, it's nice to not hit your nose.
      As for the A7RV screen I don't think that still provides the sheer efficiency I mention with the X-Pro3. I can bring down a waist level screen in *a single motion* , and I can also completely hide it as easily. On most cameras without hidden screens, yes you can turn off the LCD, but you have to flip through dozen of view modes in order to get it to hide (and often you overshoot). That said, if I could set a custom button to toggle the screen on and off *in a single button press* that would go a long way, but so far I've never seen this from anyone (including Fuji).
      I suppose a X-T4 screen maybe sort of could be a compromise, but that's slow too.
      Hmm. Actually, what could work for me is if Fuji put in a X-T3/X-T5 style screen (or even A7RV) and *had an option to make the automatically screen only turn on if you flip it out, otherwise turn it off* . That allow me to more or less replicate the way I use my X-Pro3 screen now. I don't care about the screen being hidden as such, I just don't want it shining in my face when I'm not doing waist-level shots.
      I'd still really want the OVF though, but I suppose I maybe should just admit that I'm probably a true optical rangefinder person and start saving up for a Pixii or even a Leica M… but it's sooo much money, and I kinda like having autofocus.
      Anyway, thanks for answering!

    Totally agree with everything on your 'X-Pro 4' wish list, Luca! No repeat of the X-Pro3 screen and no flippy screen please. The one on the X-T3 / 5 works for still photographers. If anyone wants to use the cameras for Vlogging, use the phone and X-App (why does nobody seem to mention that?). I have one more general wish for future Fuji cameras: make the control button layout more similar between all camera models. Like many, I am using more than one X-system camera (currently X-T5, X-Pro2 and X-E3) and it is annoying to keeping searching for function buttons on my cameras of the X-system line. Why do Q buttons, playback buttons etc. have to be on opposite sides of different models? Cheers!

  • @phillipjackson2199
    @phillipjackson2199 10 месяцев назад +3

    I pretty much agree with everything you said Luca. Except, and you know what I’m going to say, the viewfinder. The hybrid viewfinder is what makes this camera what it is. Otherwise what’s the point? It’s unique. You say that there’s no interest in hybrid viewfinders but you forget about the X100V. The hybrid VF doesn’t seem to stop the high demand for that. The frame lines in OVF really are brilliant. I am still using X-Pro 2 cameras for my professional and personal work. And whilst I use EVF maybe 2/3 of the time, I still use the frame lines in OVF when really needing to nail composition. There’s nothing else like it. I’d even say to make the 4 slightly larger. Ultimately, for me, this is a real photographer’s camera so all the other stuff around it can go. Ok, it has to match up in the key specs but It’s all about the viewfinder. Let’s hope they stick to their original idea about this amazing camera and don’t lose their soul. Thanks for this

    • @LucaPetraliaPhotography
      @LucaPetraliaPhotography  10 месяцев назад +2

      I get it, I knew for some the viewfinder is key to the whole design. And the X-Pro 2 is a great one. My point is they limited it already with the X-Pro 3, you wouldn't probably like it. So at that point get rid of it. I would understand keeping it if they go back to the original idea, different magnifications, with a bigger and more advanced one, not keeping the X-Pro 3 idea

    • @phillipjackson2199
      @phillipjackson2199 10 месяцев назад

      @@LucaPetraliaPhotography Yes, I didn’t like how they limited the X-Pro 3 viewfinder. I wasn’t bothered about the screen argument (I don’t use that to chimp anyway), for me it was all about getting the VF right. The hybrid VF is a technically difficult and expensive thing to produce and I can understand why fujifilm might be baulking at the whole idea of it. But it’s the heart of what the X-Pro is. Take that away and it’s just another digital camera. An X-Pro without it is no longer an X-Pro - as you suggested, an XE-Pro. I, for one, would very much miss the frame lines in the OVF. And I refuse to pay £10-£12k for a Leica M just to get frame lines. Looks like I’m going to have keep on with my X-Pro 2 camera then. Thanks again

I have also added an X-T2, X-T3, X-T4, X-T5 and a couple of weeks ago, the X-H2. I never liked the X-Pro3 but if the X-Pro4 has a screen either like the X-T4 OR X-T5, and has the larger battery and perhaps the 40mp sensor, then I will buy that too. Xpro 4, needs a better autofocus and hopefully a higher resolution, that’s about it, size wise it’s perfect.
    I hope it keeps the con sealed screen, definitely one of it’s great features.
    This is a rangefinder style camera, not a standard DSLR not digital compact.
    Rangefinders still exist to this day for a very good reason, they excel in areas of photography that the DSLRs and other compacts can not.
    I think most of the negative comments about this camera tend to come from people who don’t understand how or what to use a rangefinder style camera for.
    Fuji would be dumb to drop this range, as they are the only company offering an affordable alternative to the legendary Leica M range.

    • @LucaPetraliaPhotography
      @LucaPetraliaPhotography  8 месяцев назад

      As I said, I have used and loved the X-Pro 1 since its debut for years, because of its layout. However electronic viewfinders were really bad, and the camera could use a lot of lenses with the OVF. The last iteration of the camera partially limited that with the narrower OVF field of view, and at the same time electronic viewfinders are becoming increasingly good and easy to use on a daily basis.
      Last, but not least, shooting from the LCD screen is becoming more and more used even by pros.
      That's the whole point about what I want in the next generation.
      Of course I knew many would still love the hybrid solution

    I love my X-pro 2;I didn’t get the X-Pro 3 because I don’t like the weird back screen. If the X-E3 and X-Pro 2 had a baby, that would be my dream camera. With that said, it’s got to have IBIS, I say lose the optical viewfinder, it’s too limiting; it’s basically only good with the 23mm and 35mm. I’d like the camera to be smaller and I’d like a pivoting screen like that on the X-T5. Great video, thanks.

    I'm not convinced we will get an X-Pro4 but I sure hope we do. Seems like we should have heard something by now. Although I never used the OVF function on the Pro-1 or Pro-2 (always used EVF) there is a certain aesthetic to it that so sets Fuji apart with this design. And looks matter given the rave of people buying X100's just for the hipster look on TikTok. I hope they keep this a "photographer's camera" and don't push the a video specs too much...Fuji has plenty of other great options for the video crowd. An X-Pro2 with a semi-articulating screen and IBIS would hit the target. Sony has the full frame A7C with IBIS and lacks the OVF which is similar to what you're describing here albeit Sony's viewfinder is abysmal. The previous X-Pro's flew off the shelves and I'm sure an X-Pro4 that isn't a radical departure from the previous design philosophy will sell like hot cakes..

    It really makes no sense to say something like - it would be bold for Fuji to get rid of the hybrid viewfinder, when literally all other cameras do not have one. Why would it be bold to remove the very thing that makes it bold? They would be making it conventional, normal. You seem to be critiquing the concept based on the poor execution in the XPro 3. That camera was a nightmare of dumb mistakes and they should fix those on the 4. Bring back the DPad, correct the screen, develop a game changing hybrid viewfinder, give us a discreet photo/video switch that changes the aperture settings etc. for each mode so we can fluidly jump between both.
    I think it would be great for the video mode to have more on the go journalistic features to run and gun a bit. This would match the feel and use case of the camera body. IBIS, autofocus, and some clever software in camera could go a long way to making some very compelling video features that aren't standard on other systems. 32 bit float would be cool for the audio, level checking during a riot wouldn't be needed!

    I.M.O..considering what fuji has said about the xpro will be headed towards a more luxury camera. It will still be an xpro as we know it. It will introduce IBIS, a higher resolution sensor, different ovf/evf. New battery, it will be bigger and heavier. It will only come in semi precious metals bodys and be priced around the same as nikon z7 mark 2. It will be lot more expensive. IBIS and hybrid evf's are the most expensive mechanisms to make. Fuji will lean into it this time. Last time they tried to convert the popularity of film into digital. It didn't work, so they'll double down on the xpro strong fan club that they alienated with that screen. Either way, the xpro4 will be more expensive than most capable full frame cameras. Im calling it now.

      @@LucaPetraliaPhotography It makes the most sense for fuji. The XT and XH lines cover a wide variety of bases for casual and work purposes. The GF series cover a good amount of commercial use. The xpro will be focused more on users who simply photography for photography itself. In some ways it will be more akin to leica's than ever before. The duratech finishes will just be stock standard. My only reservation is that the body will have to be retooled slightly. Retooling is an expensive exercise in manufacturing. Hence the xpro will be about the same price as amid range, capable full frame body. I can't see it being made in huge numbers and it will basically be for people like myself who genuinely enjoy the xpro shape and functionality more, but were put off by some of the xpro 3 design decisions.

    The reason to choose the X-Pro is that it competes with and beats the Leica M. It gives the purist experience with the option to have autofocus and built in evf for when you want it. (Not to mention close focus) Therefore the OVF is essential. It could be improved by giving an even simpler electronic rangefinder style system in the OVF. There are plenty of other cameras to choose from if you want the experience you speak of in the video. As for the screen, any kind of screen that can be hidden neatly will do 👍🏻 TBH i dont mind whT they do with the X-Pro4 as they have already made the X-PRO3!!

      I disagree on the initial statement. There's plenty of good cameras available for purchase from Fuji. I do agree, however, on the fact that they have to step up their game from now on.

      Agreed, if Nikon develops a “retro” range of cameras including a rangefinder styled after their offerings from the 50s and 60s, watch your back Fuji, Nikon is gunnin’ for ya.

      @@cameraman655 and Nikon should definitely try to eat that part of the market... it's on Fuji to come up and step up their game. But not so much in cameras, but with lenses. My next video is going to focus on this

      @@LucaPetraliaPhotography Indeed, glad to see another player in this realm, nothing like some serious competition to wake up a complacent Fuji. Will I switch…? Gotta tell ya, I was with Canon for close to 40 years (flirted with Nikon F3 in the 80s), but making the switch, man that's a pain in the ass and having 2 systems, not my style, I tend to “marry” into a system. If Nikon does indeed go down this path, I will definitely be looking very seriously at defecting.
