The way Federer moved and hit the ball back then was different. Everything was so fluid and effortless yet still powerfull and accurate.

The man from Thailand was super good. But Fed ruled it at the era.

1:36 it is rare to see Federer do such a bad decision, comming to the net with a crosscourt, giving his opponent all the court open to easily do a passing shot. For worse, the opponent were in that place of the court

Earlier on in the match you want to probe your opponent for weakness.
Federer was forcing a down-the-line shot(hence the slow approach to cover the deuce side) and see if Srichaphan can execute on that day.
If Srichaphan misses then Srichaphan has to carry that miss in his head.

It's early in a match where he was on cruise control and just testing things out. You can do that sort of stuff when you have sky high confidence.

4:37 the approach should've been down the line

What are you talking about fed was on fire 2006. The best year for fed. The stuff he was doing was just out of this world.

Yeah, but he got rekt by Murray later this tournament in one of the worst matches of that year for him

Yeah this was his worst tourney of 2006. Although 2006 was feds best year of his career. He won 12 of 16 finals that year. He went 92-5 made all 4 majors (lost FO to nadal) and won 7 masters tournament. 2006 maybe best year of all male tennis players.

Fed had sigh if relief at the end there. Probably thought if this match went to 3 it would have been harder to get the win.

Wasn’t this the tournament where Andy Murray actually was terrific and completely outplayed Federer?
