  • Used TVWXMAN32 instructions on his video, but discovered the alternator in the California model seems to lack some space for bringing the alternator out underneath.
This trick opens up some space easily.

THANK YOU!! This was a lifesaver. I also pulled off the small 'C' shaped half of the collar that goes around the axle with x2 13mm nuts holding it on. Thanks again.

I just changed my 2006 California PZEV focus alternator and it came right through that space without loosening the dogbone. I wonder if it had anything to do with having it on ramps instead of jack stands. I found the job tedious at times but had no real difficulties getting it out. There was a heat shield to remove, an alternator cool air housing to remove, and of course those studs, but once it was all removed it came right out. I wonder why I didn't have the same space issue.

I don't think it changes the steering rack geometry when it is on ramp versus stands. It sounds like you scored the skinnier version of alternator. Thank you for the reply.

I do have a question... I see you have your car on a lift. Ive got my car on ramps, so Im wondering if the wheels need to be hanging for this trick to work?

Should work on ramps as well. If you have not changed the dog bone mount, may be a good time to do that anyhow.

    Nice tip! Thanks Brutha!!
But maybe you wanna change the part in yer description that says "seems to lack some space" to something like; "bcuz those Ford douche's left us absolutely NO space" etc. :)
