This video shows you how to install a new TRQ alternator for your 2000-2007 Ford Focus 2.0L L4. The alternator in your vehicle powers the battery and electrical system while the engine is running. If your alternator is failing, you may wind up with a constantly draining battery.

    2003 Ford Focus
    2004 Ford Focus

One of the absolute best repair videos that I've seen! The pace, visuals and voiceover are outstanding...making this total PITA job somewhat more tolerable. The one key takeaway is removing that lower motor mount bolt, as the alternator is nearly impossible to squeeze between the subframe and driveshaft tube without doing so. Allow me to add a couple more words of advice since I just completed this job yesterday.
    1) If you're working solo, use a pry bar to shift the engine forward to gain the needed clearance. Use a small piece of 2 x 4 to wedge between the engine and frame once you've removed the motor mount bolt and deflected the engine. You'll only be able to move the engine 1/2" or so as measured by the lower mount, but that's all you'll need to easily slide the unit into place.
    2) When installing the new unit, hold it up in the mounting location and installer either of the two bottom bolts first...then go to the top and install the top bolt. Leave everything loose so that the alternator can slide on the bolts (see #3).
    3) First position the alternator onto the mounting bolts without the air duct. Once the unit is loosely installed, pull the unit back, snap the air duct on and tighten the 13mm bolt. After this is completed and the regulator plug attached, tighten all 3 mounting bolts. This saves a lot of bumbling and frustration due to having the clunky air duct on while trying to install the unit.

Thanks so much for making the video it really helped me to streamline the process. I didn't take the studs out or undo the motor mount. But I did have to take off the plastic back shroud on the alternator to squeeze it out the top.

Seems like you put some steps in that didn't need to be. Like taking the studs off and taking the belt completely off just to name a few.

Unless you're putting a new belt on there's no need to remove it and you should draw a diagram if you are removing it

I have a 2001 Ford Focus with the same engine and alternator in the back. Unfortunately, mine has a different alternator and design so this video didn't help. For example, you cannot access the alternator underneath the car. There is no splash shield on mine, just a metal wall.
