    I can't help but be particularly disturbed that Andrew was last seen at King's Cross Station. As an ex-homeless street boy in London myself, (aged 13-16) I know that that is one of the most dangerous places to be. I want so badly to believe that he's ok but I can't help but feel that he's not. Without going into too much detail, King's Cross is notorious for paedophile rings, they lie in wait outside the station watching for runaways getting off the trains. It's their stamping ground, they can flog them off in cafes just across the road and if the fruit machine is facing the right way you can buy them for the price of a pint. This was a young naive kid from Yorkshire, he would never, no matter how bright, have been able to deal living rough on the streets of London. I am not suggesting for one moment that this is the case here and man, trust me, I hope that it's not, but it's certainly something that should be considered.

    Andrews case is eerily similar to Breck Bednar's case. A 14 year old boy who was highly intelligent but spent most of his time online gaming. He was groomed online by an 18 year old male:Lewis Daynes who pretened to be a sucessful app inventor/computer whizz. When Breck's parents became worried about the time he spent online gaming and communicating with this person, they took his computer away. Only to find out after, that Lewis had sent Breck a mobile phone so they could contine to communicate without his parents knowing. He lured Breck to his flat, tried to sexually assault him and ended up killing him. This happened in 2014 and very little was known then about online predators, so in 2007 there would have been even less if any info at all about online predators. I would say its more than likely Andrew was groomed online through the use of his gaming console and his hand held console and had made arrangements to meet up in London. If this person was able to convince Andrew to skip school and board a train to London without telling his parents, then its likely he was told they would make sure he got home so he would only need to buy a one way ticket. However from my experience buying train tickets in the UK, its very rare to be told by a ticket seller, its only £1 more to buy a return. .It was never clear whether Andrew bought a child ticket-I assume it would have been and if thats the case then I would also have thought that a young kid buying a one way ticket to London when he should be at school would have warranted a phonecall to the rail transport police by the ticket seller or the ticket inspector on the train. Regardless of these facts and what we now know about online predators, its likely Andrew was a victim of an online predator. Personally Id be looking at peadophile gangs/ peadophiles operating in that area at the time Andrew went missing and peadophiles that were known to use online gaming to groom kids and subsequently charged and sent to prison.
    In the UK the only program on TV that featured people/kids who had gone missing was Crimewatch and that hasnt been on TV for years. The only times we hear of these 'disappearances' is when the killers are caught. There should be a lot more media outlets and TV featuring these types of cases in the UK because like America, a lot of people in the UK disappear without a trace and go unreported. This needs to change and more needs to be done. The amount of money 13 million thats been spent on Madelaine McCann and the amount of tv programs made about Fred & Rosemary West is ridiculous. Every missing person case in the UK deserves the same amount of attention and funding, Im ashamed to say Im British/English when clearly there isnt. Thank God for lordonArts Brainscratch podcasts, I hope you do more podcasts about missing persons in the UK

    I saw an excellent documentary on this case, wish I could remember the name and link. One of the things they covered was his gaming console. Forgive me because I don't know the technical details, but it was a model that would have allowed him to have private chats that would not be saved. The theory was that he was groomed through this game. It fits with a number of things, the fact that he was hard to wake up that morning - up late chatting and gaming? One way ticket, thought he was getting a lift home? Not a runaway, I think he was groomed and met his abductor in London.

      A. Morrigan that makes sense to me. Im aways seeing my nephews talking to ppl on those gaming consoles. As young naive teens they tend to believe what they are told online. We as their chaperones have to stay on it as much as possible. I pray that his parents fight to keep the strength to find the truth. I hope tho that he is still out there so we can have one with a good ending.

Socom for instance was a military game that had full 15 v 15 matches with voice and text chat- I know alot of other games at the time had similar features taking advantages of these 'new' capabilities for the time. I met alot of other cool like minded kids on there but I can deff imagine that there would be creeps lurking those same game chats as well.

    Putting myself in his shoes, as I had similar interests at that age, my instinct has always been that he was going to meet someone he'd met online, and the most likely place for that meeting would've been Camden market. Camden is near enough to Kings Cross that he could've got a bus there and not needed to use the Underground, though the Tube is probably easier if you don't know where you're going.

      I would wager that he went to Camden Town also on a Mon-Fri work day the market would have been open and not much to do in London that's exciting between 11:20am and the few hours he had left before he had to get back before it was noticed that he was missing from school.

    • @davedogge2280
      @davedogge2280 6 лет назад +1

      If he had walked it that area between King's Cross and Mornington Crescent (and then Camden Town tube station) is a bit dodgy but not 'that' dodgy during the morning / midday. I think there was a movie set in that area called SummersTown or something similar.

      @malina1239 6 лет назад +1

      Dave Dogge I don't find it dodgy at all in daytime. But I wouldn't have my teenager going there at night.. But I agree that the most likely place he was going, if he hadn't agreed to met the person in an arcade with a particular game they could have talked about. Then we have more opportunities . Too bad about the delay with the cctv. They are everywhere in London , so he should have been easy to teach if he didn't walk straight in to a car

    Andrew and I were both close in age in 2007. I'm 23 now, and we listen to the same type of music - and I did back then, too. In school, people who listened to 'different' music were often seen as weird, and didn't tend to make as many friends. I wasn't inherently bullied, just kind of ignored. At the time, I lived in a small town in the south of Ireland. I was originally from the capital, and the more I struggled socially, the more I fantasised about going back all by myself. I didn't want to leave my family, though, and obviously couldn't pull that off at 13, so I settled for travelling to the capital every weekend or so to meet the friends I'd made online and at concerts who had the same interests as I did.
    I don't think it's a huge stretch to say maybe he ran away to try and find a community where he was accepted, and where there was more of a music scene. I know when I was that age, I visited Camden several times and swore I'd move there one day to be close to a scene I felt I belonged to. Did he want to join a band? Did he want to be closer to the music scene he liked? Did he feel like it'd be easier to live in a city where no one knows you, than in a smaller town/city where many people know you? These are all just things that I thought of when I lived in that small town and fantasised about running away. Just something to think about.

    Something I'm wondering is if through is music interests he met someone older than him, maybe 18ish or older, who invited him out to this concert and said he could come live with him in London. He could have been tricked into thinking he had a good place to stay in London. The fact he didn't buy a return ticket has me pretty sure there was someone he was meeting to stay with.

    • @jamontoast5303
      @jamontoast5303 5 лет назад +2

      I feel the same way, the other person involved was likely into slipknot themselves and probably only a few years older (possibly met this person elsewhere in the past and he trusted people nearer to his age). Or this person told him to wear a t-shirt that would make him easy to spot in a crowd, kids often wear "band" t-shirts when they are meeting like minded individuals in the city. I believe Andrew was thinking of running away or at least staying away for a weekend, either he decided to stay permanently and never return home or the person involved in his disappearance spent a lot of time trying to earn his trust over a long period of time, Andrew bought into the kindness and it cost him his life, the only question is if he is deceased the body must be well hidden. For me the main clue is that he refused getting a return ticket, i dont think he intended to return the same day at the very least.

    Sadly, I believe Andrew moved on to the next dimension.
    He bolted to London. Ran away. It's that simple. Age fourteen, it happens. Not thinking clearly. The CCTV film shows him arriving there.
    Once there....
    It takes fifteen seconds for a 180 pound man to overpower a 120 pound person. Fifteen seconds.
    Life is ugly, full of ugly creatures, and they don't wear a sign saying "I'm Dangerous". Young kids cannot just wander around train and bus stations and concerts.
    Please, if you are young, and reading this....Learn from it.

    In the UK a return train ticket is only valid for the same day. So he would not buy a return ticket if for example he was going to travel to London, stay the night and return home the following morning/day/night. He's need to purchase a new single ticket that day. This makes me wonder if that was the reason for not buying the return regardless of its cheap price. Maybe he did aim to return home but for some reason was stopped from doing so.

      @@FatLeonard84 you pay extra for a return ticket to London that's valid for a month and you either have to specify a return journey where your ticket is only valid for that journey or its an open return & you can catch any train or time within a month. The latter costs a lot more. Even though his parents said Andrew could navigate his way around London's public transport system, he might not have understood or taken into account the off peak & peak travel times applicable to train tickets to and from London.

    I believe there are 2 likely explanations. The first is that he was suicidal and planned to end his life in London. Hence the one way ticket, no spare sets of clothes, no PSP charger etc.
    The second, that someone lured him to London and either murdered him, or is still holding him hostage somehow. Andrew's actions seem so deliberate and planned, he had made his mind up about something. He may not have used the computer at home to communicate with this person, but a stranger's involvement can't be ruled out. They may have told him they will look after him, buy him food, clothing etc. or would drive or accompany him back home. He may even have immediately left London with this person, which would explain a lack of sightings/no body found.

    This is infuriating. The police dropped the ball on this, big time. Whatever happened, any chance of finding out went with the surveillance footage. It isn't like in the US with Amber Alert where you need to meet certain criteria: a detective can say "all CCTV footage from these areas on my desk, now, because I said so." The biggest problem would be getting people to trawl through it, but there is no reason they couldn't have copies of CCTV from everywhere between Yorkshire and London if needs be.

    Thanks for clarifying the internet aspect of this case. It was my first thought, and remains my suspicion, that Andrew was groomed by an internet predator. I don't know if they are as common now, given there are better safeguards in place and more awareness overall, but 2007 is about the time it seemed to be happening a lot.
    But if as you say, Andrew did not have access to a computer, a predator's access to him would be circumscribed. Is X-box chatting alone going to allow for the kind of interaction predators operate in? Can it be monitored? I feel like Andrew's movement on his last known day correspond with a pre-arranged rendezvous, but the apparent lack of any cybertracks or even cyberaccess has me totally puzzled.

      Bill, I think you very well could be right. In my opinion it breaks down to these three possibilities: a) someone followed him from train station/elsewhere in London b) he met for the first time the wrong kind of people at the rock concert c) he chatted with someone online and planned to meet up with them as you mentioned. If the answer is c, I think he was chatting with the predator on his PSP, which happened to be the only device that he brought with him. If Andrew didn't want his parents to find out about these conversations, the PSP would be a great place to hide them. However, I lean more toward he got abducted at random by someone who saw him on the train/in London/at the concert. Either way, very high probability that foul play was involved.

    • @billslocum9819
      @billslocum9819 7 лет назад +5

      Chris M - I definitely lean to C, but I can see A as well. B seems possible, but I think if he had been moving around London freely for many hours, he would have left more traces than he did.

    • @user-uy3eq5hg1s
      @user-uy3eq5hg1s 7 лет назад +3

      Valid point: I'm sure they checked CCTV footage in London... and if he got all the way to the rock concert you would expect other footage of him to be out there. Following this logic, I believe he was abducted just outside of the King's Cross railway station in London, either by someone who spotted him at the previous train station/on the train/outside of King's Cross, or by the person(s) he planned to meet up with. Based on this, I now think it is more probable that he was meeting up with someone, since you're right that the abduction likely happened right outside of King's Cross rail station... which is where someone would have been waiting for him if they planned to meet up. Of course, it would be a good location for a random killer/pedophile looking for vulnerable children as well, so that is still a possibility. Either way, there's a high probability that he got into someone's vehicle outside of the station and was never seen again.

      Pulling all of your money out of your bank account and buying a one way ticket to London on a Friday sounds like something someone would tell you to do.... like this man said "Hey, Andrew... if you're ever fed up and want a change, want something new in life, take all the money you've got and buy a one way ticket to London." His actions seem more like following instructions than wanting to disappear to me, especially with reportedly no issues at home and 100% attendance at school.

    Strange one way ticket for child who had savings so careful with his money

  • @gizmo3846
    @gizmo3846 4 года назад +2

    There are a few mistakes here, the return ticket doesn't necessarily mean he had no intention of coming home, return tickets in the UK are same day only, so this just means he didn't plan to return that day, that makes the concert theory hold water as he wouldn't have been able to leave a concert and board a train on a same day return.
    Also although he did have xbox, he had no xbox live account and this has been confirmed, meaning the chances of him being groomed are slim.
    On top of this, you missed out potentially the most interesting development in the case, which is that someone did come forward to police with information on Andrew, but by the time an officer arrived to take his statement, he was gone, and never answered any appeals to come forward again.

    Hi John,
    Good work as always, I worked over in North Yorkshire shortly after this time and can give a little background. Doncaster area is full of ex mining communities and Barlby itself has it’s nice areas and also less well off areas, looking at the lad I’d say he very easily could’ve been suffering from some level of bullying at school enough to give him a motive to run away.
    London is on a direct rail route to North Yorkshire so would be the quickest route to get furthest away and to a young lad with limited knowledge of the uk he would think of to escape too London first. The one way ticket is definitely a clue to his intention to run away and I’d say he intended to make it permanent by taking away the temptation to return home.
    I have limited knowledge of London, but I think it attracts many young runaways a year and he could have melded in to a group. You can survive by begging and several cases in the UK of people making a better living than me from it so certainly a young lad could survive this way.
    I know London is a big city, but I’d say it’s fairly difficult to hide a body if he was murdered by a random serial killer, murder yes, keeping it secret in an overcrowded city, quite difficult.
    This leaves either he is alive (I think he is) or murdered somewhere other than central London. If he is alive he would struggle to leave the country and travel very far without a passport on less than £100…. I doubt he would know where or how to go about it and he would’ve taken a direct route by ferry form the northern city of Hull which is relatively close (to his home) if it was his original intention to reach the continent. He stopped in London. He isn’t working in a legitimate job, he hasn’t qualifications and his name would have become available on the census by now. There is a strong possibility he isn’t involved in hard drugs (no arrest for petty theft etc.) he’s either still begging on the streets of London, or he is in social housing living off a low wage and the welfare state via his partner. I think guilt or personal circumstances are preventing his contacting his family.

    Xbox Live has been around since 2002 and if you google "predators on xbox" you're going to get a return of several articles and warnings for young people that use it. That sitcom is fairly dated. It could be that it was a favorite of someone older that he met in a chat who put him onto it. That tv show was based on several novels and its stories contained risque content that had to be toned down for television. The witness that saw him on the train said he was engrossed in his PSP. Perhaps he wasn't playing a game but was using it to chat with someone.

    People are speculating that it is unlikely he was being groomed? Really? Why do they think that? Everything points to Andrew completing a secret mission. Secret from his parents that is.

    I have to say I am his age (living in the USA) and in 2007 I was not any kind of computer wiz. I remember 2007 being a year of music for me, and I was into the same kind of music he was. I had to delv in a little on this one and I saw there was a new arena that had opened in London called the O2 arena in London. If Andrew was anything like me at that age I would have hiked to see my chemical romance playing althere november 15th. Also I had a lot of contact with strangers on MySpace instant messenger. I would put my heart into this theory as I too had a carrier bag with bands and side bangs. It's not a positive thought, considering staying with a stranger could have lead to his demise. Though, he could have met some groupies and followed such a lifestyle, drugs could have been introduced as well. I think if we could find some footage of the concert or photographs taken we might spot him with a group. Just a thought

      Either someone predatory followed him from the train or he met with someone at the concert... but 98% chance foul play is involved here. Find it extremely unlikely that he pulled a 10 year disappearing act without a single real sighting with a family and many others dedicated to finding him. A train station, London and a rock concert seem like prime locations for bad stuff to happen to a 14 year old boy by himself.

      Since no footage of him exists outside of the King's Cross rail station, I think it's a 98% probability that he got into the abductor's vehicle right outside of the rail station shortly after this CCTV footage was taken (it even looks like he notices someone in the last frame): media.bizarrepedia.com/images/andrew-gosden-cctv-walking.gif
      The pizza hut and park sightings are not substantiated. If he was meeting with someone, it makes a lot of sense that it would be just outside of the train station where cars can park. Even if he didn't plan to meet anyone, it would be a good place for predators too.

      @user-uy3eq5hg1s 7 лет назад +2

      Personally I think he was chatting with someone in secret on his PSP and went to meet with them. But even if he did just leave on his own accord because he was fed up with school or something, it is very likely he was met with foul play/got into the abductor's vehicle just outside of King's Cross rail station.

    At that age, my son talked to people from all over the world on his PlayStation at his dad's (horrified me when I found out!). So the idea of this kid being lured to meet up with a predator is very believable to me. While a lot of predators do kill these kids, there have been several accounts of predators keeping kids alive into adulthood. And, although they have been thoroughly brainwashed, they have eventually been rescued. So, no matter how unlikely, my hope is that this young man is alive and will find his way home to his long-suffering family.

    Would you consider doing a story of the Bricca family from Cincinnati? A husband, wife, and daughter were killed in 1966. It's still unsolved. One possible suspect was a man that the wife allegedly was having an affair with. This affair was never affirmed. This was a crime that was out of the realm back then. I was only 8 yrs old but it gained so much news coverage that I still remember it. Thanks in advance.

    I've been homeless twice in London and there is lots of kids that are homeless and yeah some of them have runaway from home. I ran away from home once and I did the same I went to London. The homeless people help each other and there are places in London where you can hide. I wonder if he went to any off the places I went to but I not 100% sure I'm just saying and thinking.

    Also forgot to mention, I've read somewhere that a few years after he disappeared, someone went to a police station saying he had important information about andrew, but the station was closed and the person was told to return the next day but the person never did, whether it was genuine or not I don't know but the police should have really looked into that

    I ran away from home twice to my fathers house and i see myself simillar to Andrew as i was his age too and had similar interests. I think Andrew might've had contact with other family members and wanted to live with them and was most likely promised a better life.

    If you look up the case of Martin Allen, he was similar to Andrews age. Went missing after going to Kings cross station after school one day. He was in London everyday, familiar with the area. However, Kings cross is very dangerous for children on there own. Unfortunately I think Andrew faced the same fate. Peadophile rings are everywhere in kings cross. Maybe he was blackmailed or scammed or tricked into one of there plans to find vulnerable street kids.

      Emily this is definitely a case pedophiles hurting children yet I can't understand why the kid bought a one-way ticket.

    • @Pinkdinosaurs7
      @Pinkdinosaurs7 5 лет назад

      @@jabarithomas7290 he could of been lured or someone at his home station encouraged him to buy a one way ticket. However I'm not sure as he allegedly didn't have any access to the internet at home

    I know I’m two years late, but I’d never heard of this case before! One thing that plays on my mind: his mum said he slept in the like the first time ever, and was hard to awaken. Could it possibly be that he took an overdose on sleeping meds the night before, but it didn’t work and only made him groggy?
    It would play right into the suicide theory - along with the one way ticket.
    Honestly not sure what to think, but my heart goes out to his family - especially his dad, who has seemingly put his entire like on pause trying to find the answers. Let’s hope he finds them someday, and sooner rather than later.
    Great coverage John, thanks for covering another UK based case.

    Watching this video, a scenario immediately popped into my head. He's a bright boy. If he put his school clothes in the laundry, maybe he wanted his parents to think he went somewhere after school, this giving him an excuse for getting home late. A groomer online says he'll take the kid to a concert, but he'll drive the boy home because he'd never get there in time by train. If the clothes were a ruse to keep the parents from thinking he was missing for long, maybe Andrew meant to be back that evening or the next morning.

    Whenever someone clears their bank account, doesn't bring extra clothes, doesn't have enough money to travel for long and buys a *one way* train ticket it makes me think they're going to commit suicide. Like they want to "live it up" their last couple days and splurge (hence the money they take) and then kill themselves. I guess he could've met someone online and been "groomed" by them, but why clear his bank account out just to go see a friend for a day? And why not bring a change of clothes if he was meeting a friend and planned to stay longer? No *way* was that kid living on the streets all that time, that life is too hard to live and he'd run back to his parents house after a week! And I doubt he's alive cuz he would've called his family after10 yrs. Feel so bad for that family, that dad sounds like he's soul-dead, just barely living and I feel for him.
