This is so true, I topped my class when I came to study in US but I was that ‘paavam’ feeling the least confident compared to others .. took me many years to overcome that but I still have some part of Indianess still left in me

The best part of US in general that I felt was....people mind their business....but if they see that someone needs help...they are all there....they come up and ask....they can sense the hesitation on your face...and they will volunteer to help you out....

We Indians say hello or Namskaram (greetings) to people we know, but in America on my first day they were greeting me Good morning and holding doors for elevators to complete strangers. I learnt a lot during my short stay there and have great respect for Americans. But trump people have diminished some of that but still not everything.
We don't fake our emotions. It's just the Americans who say random "hellos" or "good mornings" or "how're you" to strangers without actually meaning it. Brits might as well too. We Indians generally greet only those we know, and if we see any foreigner around, we just STARE lol.

Truth is a large number of Indians still consider anything and anyone that is "American" to be superior and better than anyone and anything that is Indian. And as Kenny pointed out its largely an Indian thought process that goes "we dont deserve the best". Infact I feel that we deserve things much better than Americans do. As an Indian and with some of my experiences and interactions with Americans, I can be sure of it
