Wow, this thing is awesome! The great advantage of it is that you can use it indoors. I'm hoping that they sell a version of it without the two 7.5 AMP batteries for those of us that already have EGO batteries. Great review.
Every EGO gadget I've bought, the self propelled lawn mower, the edger, the weed whacker, has been just great. These products are just what the doctor ordered for us here along the Wasatch Front in Utah, in which our geography makes for the most polluted air in the country at times. Next on my shopping list, the EGO snowblower and probably one of the above too if I discover $1200 in loose change from the couch or something. Suggestion for another EGO gadget: A solar powered recharger at what, maybe 500 Watts? 1000 Watts?

Hey! Awesome video. I bought the 42in zeroturn a few months back, so I have 4 10ah batteries I'm looking to utilize. Have you tried hooking this up to a manual transfer switch on your house's breaker to see if you could backup say, a gas furnace?
great review thank you - to bad that they didn't include additional features, i.e. solar input, 12v outlets and 12V input - would have also had RV, camper markets. Could have been perfect for camper vans - power tools and appliances - much more efficient to use 12V directly than going thru ac inverter (typically 20+% loss).
For emergency situations a small gas generator is still the best.. Mine runs 26 hours straight with one full tank at 60% load which is about 3000w (2 small 1500w heaters) It costs 600$ and will outlast this lithium generator.. I mean, I do like the idea of a lithium generator but reliability and runtime is a big downside for my use case. Either ways, nice video has always 🙂
You can buy the dewalt station with the new 12 amps 20/60 flexvolt batteries for about $1300 and it can even run a 120v mig welder at 60 amps for about 2 hours , a mini fridge for 8 hours, a full size fridge for 4 hours. Is not pure sine wave like this one but to each it’s own.
Kite Army like I said I’ve abused the crap out of this unit for over a year and no issues. I only use it when I’m outside just in case, at the time that I bought the Dewalt the EGO wasn’t available, otherwise I would of bought the EGO one instead.
@@mega-hb4re I think that dewalt has the higher peak but ego has the higher amp hours. For this reason the dewalt will start more heavy tools while ego tends to run home appliances longer Both units are pretty nice units to have.
While the concept makes a lot of sense, and I think that the applications for this portable technology are endless, the real win here is the shiplap wood paneling.
I'm s EGO fan. But the weird thing is. When you use it to do things off grind. You have to plug it in (on grind) to charge it. So you're using the KHW you saved to charge. Lol. I don't mind tho. I have a 10k solar array. So I'll charge during the day. Love your video 👍🏿

Ego comes out with something new and innovative every 6 months! I have a feeling the next things may be ego riding mower, power broom, and 10ah gen 2. And I will most likely see you post about it first!
Price is same or more than my Honda EU2000 generator. The EGO comes with two batteries and can produce 840 Watt hours of electricity with them, then you need to find somewhere to recharge everything. My Honda holds a hair over 1 gallon of gasoline and produces 5900 Watt hours from that before I have shut it down and add another gallon. EGO unit is a neat thing, but won't be my home standby or anything like that.
Regarding your hot tub. I have had many of those inflatable tubs which not only came apart but the filter/heater assembly ran through costly filters like crazy. Not to mention it cost about $100 per month to keep it heated, and you had to have it heated ALL THE TIME because it took so long to get up to temperature. My question is: How much power in watts does it take you to keep yours heated? How long do you have to run your power to get it up to the top degree of about 105 degrees? Using the bubble jets makes it lose heat because the jets are blowing cold air which cools the water. You can't just turn on the power and expect hot water within a short time.

How many batteries and what amp hours were used for the run times that you put up in your video? Also, did you actually run the devices for that amount of time or were you just using the estimates that the Nexus unit tells you for how long it would last with the current batteries plugged into the device? Thanks mate - for the run times I used only 2 7.5Ah batteries (as it is sold). To test the run time I used a single 7.5Ah battery and ran it down. I then multiplied that by 2 to get the estimate. Though for some of the tests I used the power station estimate. It would have taken to long to fully test all appliances - real time.
Hi Andrew, i really enjoy your reviews. I’ve learned a lot from watching them. I have a question on the ego nexus powerstation. I recently purchased one. I was thinking and even try calling ego to see what the best way to store the batteries and how to keep them charged when not in used. Can I leave all 4 batteries connected to the unit while not in use, or should I remove them. And also I bought just in case we lose power what is the best way to store the batteries. Should they be stored 100 percent or 50’percent power. Thanks Andrew
Thanks mate - The batteries actually do a really slow maintenance on themselves - The most import part is to make sure the batteries don't get to hot or less so to cold - Heat is what kills the cells. The ideal power is about 70-80% but as I said they will reach that on their own. Yes it is okay to leave them on the generator in charge mode - lots of smart tech running that thing

I'm going to plug in my zero turn EGO charger to my Bluetti 240 while a 375 watt solar panel charges it , ego went in the weeds for the solar connections.was hoping to find a easy avenue to charge my mower.?
Honestly for the indoor/outdoor factor alone compared to any other product that would attempt this type of power output $1200 for a power station capable of 2000 continuous and coming with 840 watt hours of power isn't bad. Also I don't know that I could find a product that allows me to hot swap batteries for as long as I have batteries to keep running. Not for that price anyway.
ImalTman you dont get 2000 at that price point only with the 4x 7.5ah batteries which brings it's up to $1800 and for that I'd rather go with goal zero

I'm an off grid tiny house builder and I live in an off grid tiny house that's mobile I have a deep cell freezer D box freezer and two LED lights my kilowatt usage is only one kilowatt per day and I'm wondering if you can answer the question on how that will turn around and translate into cycling and how often I would have to re-charge the generator inverter
Milwaukee has a new line with big batteries I'm pretty sure they have a faster charge up time. I think they call it M power or something like that. Milwaukee has a very good name.
2000watts continuous for how many hours untill the batteries run out , or is it possible to recharge the batteries and replace them for continuous use ?

Oh ok. Thanks for the response! How's the charging rate compared to the standard chargers (with only one battery installed)? That's kind of a bummer if there's no fan for the batteries. That's what sets those chargers apart from most of the competition in my opinion. That power station is still an impressive tool though! This may sound ridiculous, but I wonder how much runtime you could get if you had FOUR fully charged 28Ah commercial backpack batteries installed on it with the needed adaptors. That'd be 112Ah! Of course, that'd be stupidly expensive at probably well over 5 grand! One guy said that with four 7.5Ah batteries installed, you could only run a fridge for a couple of hours. Can I run a sump pump through it at all times. Does it charge and discharge at the same time? I am looking for something to run my sump pump if I am not home and power goes out
My problem with it is it's limited input and output connections. It's only input is a 110v power brick (edit: Kite Army says that there is another connector on the back that may be for solar), on the output side we are limited to older 5v 2.1A USB and 110v. When loaded with an additional 2x 7.5Ah batteries it's price is close to a Goal Zero Yeti 1400 ($1800 Yeti @ full retail* vs ~$1900 EGO) but the Yeti has inputs for solar and additional outputs for 12v DC, 2 USB-C (one 5/12/20v 6A and one 5v 3A) and can be chained to other external batteries for more storage. I could get a Yeti, charge my EGO batteries with it, charge my newer phones/devices much faster and power an addition set of items (12v DC). All while recharging from solar. If I was already heavily invested in EGO with multiple batteries and could get the Nexus as a bare tool then it might be attractive but as it is now there are better and more flexible options. *Yeti can be found often on sale in the $1,400 - 1,500 range.
@@Kitearmy - 1425 vs the 1680 for a 4x 7.5A EGO. It's continuous output is only 1.5Kw vs 2Kw for the EGO though. Sorry for edit, did 52v x 7.5 instead of 56v.
@@Shindinru Yes and you can hot swap in a battery into the EGO and use the for yard tools - this will squash the Yeti if they come out with a solar connector
@@Kitearmy - not really. I mean each of those is an additional $250-350 or more expense. Like I said, if one is heavily invested in EGO already it makes some sense, but other wise there are other options that are a better choice for most people.
This is great! Question: I would love to use this on my 240v water pump for my well when the power goes out. Any idea if this could power a 240v water pump or is this just for 120v applications? Thanks!
Scott Devor it could, if your well pump is less than 1000 watts, and can start on less than 2000 watts, you could get a step up converter and attach that to the well pump... then it could do it.
Didn't see how long it could run that fridge, from the video it looks like it's about 1hr? Or does that normalize once the compressor turns off? Has anyone tested this?
DeWalt has one that runs on 4 20v batterys and puts out 1800 running watts,so I'm sure Milwaukee could do the same or higher with the 12.0 batteries that use the 21700 cells as opposed to the 18650s in the ego batteries. 21700 can draw much higher amps.so I think it could be done.

While it is crazy expensive, the 2 batteries alone are half the cost... SO its the same cost as the mower for example... I am actually going to be buying the mower in a month or so, so instead of the mower kit, I may just buy this + bare mower tool. Get an extra 7.5 out of it... Already have 3x 5mah and a 2.5mah (blower, edger, trimmer, snowblower)

Hmmm, I’m on the fence about this thing... you need power to charge the batteries to run it, so in a longer outage or multiday camping, you get one shot with your existing batteries if you have no power source, unlike a gas generator.. So that makes this just an expensive tailgating prop for a few hours of use. I’m also worried about Ego moving to 80v or 100/120v from 56v...will everything they have become obsolete? I wanted an Ego snow blower last week as we are in an extended winter and ZERO are available to purchase anywhere, online or in store. Makes me think they are going to move up in voltage.

Roman Aleksanyan wow-I love the way you think. So I think the answer to this question simple. Basically you will never be able to charge more batteries to full than you start with. This will be true until they release a solar panel. Fingers crossed that will be out soon.

I didn’t notice mention of a significant disadvantage. You can’t charge and use (discharge) at the same time. So you can’t use it as an unattended UPS (uninterruptible power supply).
Assuming you have 4x 7.5 ah batteries and the A/C compressor stays on with a continuous draw of 1400 watts, You will get a run time of less than 1 single solitary hour.
Thanks. I'm looking at it as either a backup or replacement for my battery bank. Likely not a replacement as it has a couple limitations... can't charge and discharge at the same time is a big one, no fast charging (yet). I use about 12-15ah of 110v nightly... and 4x7.5a 56v would give about 15ah of 110v not accounting for losses. But I like the tech.
That sounds real interesting - I think some of the limitations are going to be addressed with future updates to the power station - looking forward to those fixes
I'm running our house/cabin in FL off a battery bank of 22 35ah agm batteries (9.4kwh, 4.7kwh usable) hooked to 5kw of solar panels. The weak spot is the batteries as they can only take a charge so fast. Likely moving to litium Iron at some point when costs come down. But this guy might be a handy place to throw all the extra power I get on a sunny day. Just use separate fast chargers to charge the batteries.

I'm wondering how long you can power a projector and either an Xbox or Blu-ray player? I think they projector I have is 384W. In this video I think the fan at 150W only runs 4 hours.
@@Kitearmy that's what I feared. If I had movie night, that would cut it close if I wanted a self contained setup. Right now I have a portable projection screen I bought this year that I set up in the front yard and had my neighbors and friends over to watch a couple of Thursday night football games. But in that instance I have access to power so I was able to run an extension cord for everything. However, if I took it to someone's house with a bigger yard, or a park, etc where I didn't have easy access to power, I was hoping for a quiet solution like this power station.
Its just really expensive only comes with 2 batteries. Each battery is about $230 ,plus it only gives you 80 percent of what's charged because it retains the last 20 percent. Just really expensive which it would last longer for the price same with the jackery 1000 explorer.

I have 8, 100watt Renogy solar panels that I bought on Amazon for less than $100 a piece almost 2 years ago. ...40 Amp charge controller ...small 100 ah agm battery bank (24 volt) ....2000 watt inverter going to house transfer switch which I have used to power all of my Ego batteries and a bunch of appliances during daylight hours.

i cancelled a team meeting to watch this... damn it is big.. and i got 4 batteries already... This is bleeding into my Dewalt powerstation 1800 area.... app seems awesome... $1200 dollars however is an issue. I can get 6-8 x 12amp dewalt batteries..... maybe they will sell it barebone without batteries for $499 then i will buy one... for now...
Problem with the DeWalt. The way the power station batteries run are the weakest battery shuts the whole thing down regardless of whether the other batteries have charge left. I'm guessing Ego was smart enough to overcome this due to Andrew saying you can run it on a single battery.
During discussion of fridge run time, I saw the figure "200 watts" flash on the screen. Assuming watts = amps*volts, don't most fridges require something more like 700 watts? If so, how many hours would a *typical* fridge with 700-800 running watts requirement be able to run?
If it was a UPS, it would be a game changer. Plug in my router and internet into it... use this to charge my batteries...if the power goes out, my plugs go uninterruptable to the batteries. That would make this a game changer.

I get all of that. I have older parents and they have had to sell their gas generator because they can no longer start it

Using the bubble jets makes it lose heat because the
jets are blowing cold air which cools the water.
You can't just turn on the power and expect hot water
within a short time.
Its not really practical to run a hot tub with this - you get aabout 4 hours of run time

Thanks mate - for the run times I used only 2 7.5Ah batteries (as it is sold). To test the run time I used a single 7.5Ah battery and ran it down. I then multiplied that by 2 to get the estimate. Though for some of the tests I used the power station estimate. It would have taken to long to fully test all appliances - real time.
I have five 7.5 amp batteries...I rotate them on my rapid charger with a small gas Gen set that can run 12 hours on 1 gal of gas...unlimited run time!

Hi Andrew, i really enjoy your reviews. I’ve learned a lot from watching them. I have a question on the ego nexus powerstation. I recently purchased one. I was thinking and even try calling ego to see what the best way to store the batteries and how to keep them charged when not in used. Can I leave all 4 batteries connected to the unit while not in use, or should I remove them. And also I bought just in case we lose power what is the best way to store the batteries. Should they be stored 100 percent or 50’percent power. Thanks Andrew
Thanks mate - The batteries actually do a really slow maintenance on themselves - The most import part is to make sure the batteries don't get to hot or less so to cold - Heat is what kills the cells. The ideal power is about 70-80% but as I said they will reach that on their own. Yes it is okay to leave them on the generator in charge mode - lots of smart tech running that thing

I'm going to plug in my zero turn EGO charger to my Bluetti 240 while a 375 watt solar panel charges it , ego went in the weeds for the solar connections.was hoping to find a easy avenue to charge my mower.?
Honestly for the indoor/outdoor factor alone compared to any other product that would attempt this type of power output $1200 for a power station capable of 2000 continuous and coming with 840 watt hours of power isn't bad. Also I don't know that I could find a product that allows me to hot swap batteries for as long as I have batteries to keep running. Not for that price anyway.

I'm an off grid tiny house builder and I live in an off grid tiny house that's mobile I have a deep cell freezer D box freezer and two LED lights my kilowatt usage is only one kilowatt per day and I'm wondering if you can answer the question on how that will turn around and translate into cycling and how often I would have to re-charge the generator inverter
With 4 7.5Ah batteries you should be able to run 1.5 to 2 days on that draw

Milwaukee has a new line with big batteries I'm pretty sure they have a faster charge up time. I think they call it M power or something like that. Milwaukee has a very good name.

Standard USB Type A. My Samsung phone only charges normally and not fast charging when connected to the ports. No wireless charger.

I don't think so - the charge rates on the power station are much slower than the high speed chargers

That's kind of a bummer if there's no fan for the batteries. That's what sets those chargers apart from most of the competition in my opinion.

This may sound ridiculous, but I wonder how much runtime you could get if you had FOUR fully charged 28Ah commercial backpack batteries installed on it with the needed adaptors. That'd be 112Ah! Of course, that'd be stupidly expensive at probably well over 5 grand!
One guy said that with four 7.5Ah batteries installed, you could only run a fridge for a couple of hours. I'll see if I can find the link to that video.

My problem with it is it's limited input and output connections. It's only input is a 110v power brick (edit: Kite Army says that there is another connector on the back that may be for solar), on the output side we are limited to older 5v 2.1A USB and 110v. When loaded with an additional 2x 7.5Ah batteries it's price is close to a Goal Zero Yeti 1400 ($1800 Yeti @ full retail* vs ~$1900 EGO) but the Yeti has inputs for solar and additional outputs for 12v DC, 2 USB-C (one 5/12/20v 6A and one 5v 3A) and can be chained to other external batteries for more storage.
I could get a Yeti, charge my EGO batteries with it, charge my newer phones/devices much faster and power an addition set of items (12v DC). All while recharging from solar. If I was already heavily invested in EGO with multiple batteries and could get the Nexus as a bare tool then it might be attractive but as it is now there are better and more flexible options.
*Yeti can be found often on sale in the $1,400 - 1,500 range.
How many Watt hours is the Yeti?
@@Kitearmy - 1425 vs the 1680 for a 4x 7.5A EGO. It's continuous output is only 1.5Kw vs 2Kw for the EGO though.

Also, I have seen the 7.5Ah on sale too - that would lower the overall cost as well
@@Kitearmy - not really. I mean each of those is an additional $250-350 or more expense. Like I said, if one is heavily invested in EGO already it makes some sense, but other wise there are other options that are a better choice for most people.

Scott Devor it could, if your well pump is less than 1000 watts, and can start on less than 2000 watts, you could get a step up converter and attach that to the well pump... then it could do it.

DeWalt has one that runs on 4 20v batterys and puts out 1800 running watts,so I'm sure Milwaukee could do the same or higher with the 12.0 batteries that use the 21700 cells as opposed to the 18650s in the ego batteries. 21700 can draw much higher amps.so I think it could be done.

While it is crazy expensive, the 2 batteries alone are half the cost... SO its the same cost as the mower for example... I am actually going to be buying the mower in a month or so, so instead of the mower kit, I may just buy this + bare mower tool. Get an extra 7.5 out of it... Already have 3x 5mah and a 2.5mah (blower, edger, trimmer, snowblower)

Hmmm, I’m on the fence about this thing... you need power to charge the batteries to run it, so in a longer outage or multiday camping, you get one shot with your existing batteries if you have no power source, unlike a gas generator.. So that makes this just an expensive tailgating prop for a few hours of use.
I’m also worried about Ego moving to 80v or 100/120v from 56v...will everything they have become obsolete? I wanted an Ego snow blower last week as we are in an extended winter and ZERO are available to purchase anywhere, online or in store. Makes me think they are going to move up in voltage.
I would say with almost 100% confidence that they are set on 56v. They will be increasing Ah though

Roman Aleksanyan wow-I love the way you think. So I think the answer to this question simple. Basically you will never be able to charge more batteries to full than you start with. This will be true until they release a solar panel. Fingers crossed that will be out soon.

I didn’t notice mention of a significant disadvantage. You can’t charge and use (discharge) at the same time. So you can’t use it as an unattended UPS (uninterruptible power supply).

it depends on the batteries you use in the generator - my best guess for best case scenario is about 5 hours.
Assuming you have 4x 7.5 ah batteries and the A/C compressor stays on with a continuous draw of 1400 watts, You will get a run time of less than 1 single solitary hour.

Thanks. I'm looking at it as either a backup or replacement for my battery bank. Likely not a replacement as it has a couple limitations... can't charge and discharge at the same time is a big one, no fast charging (yet). I use about 12-15ah of 110v nightly... and 4x7.5a 56v would give about 15ah of 110v not accounting for losses. But I like the tech.
That sounds real interesting - I think some of the limitations are going to be addressed with future updates to the power station - looking forward to those fixes
I'm running our house/cabin in FL off a battery bank of 22 35ah agm batteries (9.4kwh, 4.7kwh usable) hooked to 5kw of solar panels. The weak spot is the batteries as they can only take a charge so fast. Likely moving to litium Iron at some point when costs come down. But this guy might be a handy place to throw all the extra power I get on a sunny day. Just use separate fast chargers to charge the batteries.

I'm wondering how long you can power a projector and either an Xbox or Blu-ray player? I think they projector I have is 384W. In this video I think the fan at 150W only runs 4 hours.
fully batteried up this can give you 1680Wh - so I would figure your setup can run for 3 hours
@@Kitearmy that's what I feared. If I had movie night, that would cut it close if I wanted a self contained setup. Right now I have a portable projection screen I bought this year that I set up in the front yard and had my neighbors and friends over to watch a couple of Thursday night football games. But in that instance I have access to power so I was able to run an extension cord for everything. However, if I took it to someone's house with a bigger yard, or a park, etc where I didn't have easy access to power, I was hoping for a quiet solution like this power station.

They are going to release solar in the future though for now it is not. I would say that 2 would comfortably run everything you would need in a house.
Its just really expensive only comes with 2 batteries. Each battery is about $230 ,plus it only gives you 80 percent of what's charged because it retains the last 20 percent. Just really expensive which it would last longer for the price same with the jackery 1000 explorer.

I have 8, 100watt Renogy solar panels that I bought on Amazon for less than $100 a piece almost 2 years ago. ...40 Amp charge controller ...small 100 ah agm battery bank (24 volt) ....2000 watt inverter going to house transfer switch which I have used to power all of my Ego batteries and a bunch of appliances during daylight hours.

Problem with the DeWalt. The way the power station batteries run are the weakest battery shuts the whole thing down regardless of whether the other batteries have charge left. I'm guessing Ego was smart enough to overcome this due to Andrew saying you can run it on a single battery.
I think the answer is yes - you can hot swap in a battery. This would be a great future test

During discussion of fridge run time, I saw the figure "200 watts" flash on the screen. Assuming watts = amps*volts, don't most fridges require something more like 700 watts? If so, how many hours would a *typical* fridge with 700-800 running watts requirement be able to run?

If it was a UPS, it would be a game changer. Plug in my router and internet into it... use this to charge my batteries...if the power goes out, my plugs go uninterruptable to the batteries. That would make this a game changer.
