A couple of weeks ago, I've been listening to this song in a bus after loosing all my money and got back stuck in my home town in a third world country where tough is tough.. It hit so hard at the moment, and the "how did you end up here" was piercing deep. Now by the grace of god I managed my way to leave back to a better place in a couple of days. Looking forward to recover and tighten up my back. Now as I listen back to it, It reminds me of that scratch but gives me great energy.
He knows it. Jason’s knowledge of music is impressively deep and wide: Songwriting, gear, across genres - I could listen to him wax rhapsodic for hours.
Wow, yet another great album. I think I've listened to this track like 5 times today, and the last track, Miles, maybe 10. I'm so excited to see them in August. I first saw Isbell opening up for John Prine (RIP) and I was hooked. Such an amazing show, start to finish.
Miles is a stone cold classic. Beatles, Petty, Young with hints of Zep and Floyd ... it's a KILLER. And yeah I've played it 10 times by now. I made a playlist with the songs reordered and 'This Ain't It' was my choice for the opener. I think Death Wish is a much better late album track than opener. Obvs Jason disagreed lol.
@@bvaljalo Yeah I agree with you about Death Wish. I've taken issue with a few album composition choices that have been made in the past too. For example, I love Super 8 Motel but I don't think it belongs on Southeastern compositionally. At the same time I am so grateful for everything they make, and I am so glad they are doing what they do.
The turnaround on Miles sounds like he wrote it for Jane's Addiction. I seriously thought I'd be hearing Perry Farrell doing a guest shot. 😊 I mean this in a good way, so happy that Jason can still surprise me.
Been listening to the new album all day, had to drive all over Co. Limerick in Ireland for work and listening to all the sounds and stories on Weathervanes was just perfect. The lyrics made my jaw drop to the floor so many times I almost didn't need my feet on the pedals!!
I know a lot of comments are usually on Jason's lyrical mastery, but man... I don't know what it is, but the band's sound is on a different level. *Chef's kiss
Jason produced it and went for that live band sound instead of the vocal forward in the mix stuff that Dave Cobb did -- I for one am absolutely loving the sound of this record as it lets the band shine through.
More of a Mick Taylor’s Stones era to me, but anyway… GREAT SONG! Been a fan since I saw you in 2017 at Milwaukee on the Outlaw tour. Greetings from Argentina!
One of my numerous life regrets is not having Jason do a back porch session when maybe we could afford him years ago. My new plan is either hitting the lottery or having him really really feel generous on our 35th or 40th wedding anniversary 😊
Goddamn, man! This song makes me laugh and wanna rock! Jason's channeling so many different artists and styles into a perfect honkytonk rocker!!! I agree with those above!! I wanna see the 9 minute live version...
Got the opportunity to see you at First Avenue when you came here last winter, my third show of yours, all have been fantastic, but that atmosphere was amazing. Keep up the good work y'all!
How could anyone get a First Ave ticket for Isbell??? I had a hard enough time getting an Old 97s ticket at Fine Line! I love that these bands adore Minneapolis!
Im a big Jason Isbell fan and Also Bill Nelson from Bebop Deluxe 1970s uk band I was so intrigued when I heard the guitar solos at the end I thought Jason must have been referencing Bill Nelson who is a guitar virtuoso...but then again im sure Bill Nelson must've learned his lick's from his previous heroes and so its all one big glorious mixup ...but for a moment though I thought Jason was a Bebop Deluxe fan 😂
A lyrical genius guitar god playing with the most intuitively awesome band-each at the top of their game-with a second guitar god thrown in for good measure. No, I’m not talking about Springsteen and the E-street Bad. I’m referring to its second coming. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit! I’m so glad I became aware of them before everyone else has. It’s like we get to witness a miracle before everyone else is aware of it. Also, his wife is an incredible singer/songwriter just like Springsteen’s.
I played this for my 7 year old daughter and now she works as a bartender in a honky tonk bar, chewing tobacco and cussin out truck drivers. Imagine when she turns 8!

The Allman refernces are kind pissing me off!! Jason, and Amanda, deserve not to be compared to any other thing!! They are killing it on thier own! Let it be!! Love to all Jason lovers! My 2 cents!!

Jason snarling a bit on a 70s Allmans vibe...this tune from him was a long time coming. What a gem.

Allman roots run old and deep here in the Shoals area of Alabama where Jason was born and cut his teeth. Love it!
