Congratulations Dan!!! I can still remember back in 1982 working in the lab preparing the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) specimens (Polishing melt-spun metal alloy ribbons) for you at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS). You inspired me to think differently and to work hard at understanding a problem before running off to get help. You said "try hard to solve problems yourself" and when you have exhausted all of your ideas and attempts to solve...then go get someone to help you. On the question of "Luck", I agree there is always an element of luck in everything we do, but I also know it takes very special people like yourself that are willing to put forth the effort and do the work to give "Luck" a chance :) - Dan Carrick
