Fantastic objective review! I have seen multiple "overly positive" reviews on RUclips pushing people to download it. Yours is the first to parallel my real world experience point for point.
I checked out some of the other reviews before making mine, and a lot of them seemed designed as click bait to get people to think this is an easy way to boost performance rather than actual reviews.
@@vinaynair2054 the "boost" thing really does turn off some windows processes and stuff while gaming which might matter if you are cpu bottlenecked or extremely low on RAM. But you can do the same thing manually if you know what you are doing. The graphics setting guide seems bad but it does give people some suggestions I guess. The deals page might interest some people. So I dont think it is a scam (it is free), I just don't think it is very useful. @@danielowentech i have a low end pc and without razer cortex when i play r6s i get 30 fps but with it i get 45 avg and to a low end gamer every frame counts
I think it's best to learn about graphical settings, how they work, what they're supposed to do and how much resources system they use. Whenever I'm trying to optimize a game, I lock my frame rate to 30 or 60 (depending on my performance target) and turn-on GPU usage graph via MSI Afterburner. This way, I can see exactly how impactful each graphical setting is and tune the settings accordingly. If a certain settings bumps up the GPU usage from say 55% to 59% then it means I can "afford" it. Anything over 10% is 'taxing' and 20% is 'pushing', if that makes any sense. Really helps fine tune the game if you have low-end hardware.
I'm on a low-end, 10GB DDr2 Ram, GTX 660 and i5 650 pc, and honestly, the program helps a lot in running Valorant along with Discord in the background. Without it, I lose about 20fps, which impacts gameplay by a lot.
@@txfxpikachu5845 Try to buy or upgrade your setup to 8GB of RAM and atleast dual core 3Ghz processor. And reduce all graphics settings to minimum and disable all fps or latency counters. Make sure you don't use Discord or Razer Cortex and the PC tray(taskbar) shouldn't have more than: GPU Panel, Vanguard and PC's brand related software(mostly two or three). Also set all the graphics or power saving settings to Performance on your Graphics Control Panel. Pretty sure you'll get atleast a 10 fps boost
I tried razer on the suggestion of my friend. It's actually disastrous for RAM bottlenecked computers cuz mine has a i7 non-suffix cpu with just 8GB of ddr3 so the RAM is getting bottlenecked here, and since Razer is taking up 500MB of RAM and only clearing like 300MB im actually losing more precious RAM in the process. My theory to increase performance is simple: The lesser the items in your tray, the better the results in your game. That's why please don't prefer Discord over in-game voice chat gamers. Discord is unnecessarily taking up more RAM and CPU and most setups are bottlenecked by CPU not GPU
It helped my Warzone run so smooth where I can no longer worry that I may lose fights. I can really compete with other players now that I have Cortex installed. It is not placebo I can guarantee and it is working on my system really well. Maybe it won't have that much performance boost for your system, but on mine, I have experienced the huge boost. I also played Apex and Valorant with the use of Cortex and damn, it gives huge significant boost to my system.

the best thing to do to get better performance out of your computer with software like this is something like Process Laso Pro. its basically the manual version of what this program is doing, but allot more detailed. i use it and my computer basically has 1-2% background useage (other computer obviously might be differnt) so its completely focused on running the game. highly recommend watching a tutorial first tho. your doing what people do with car tuning and just tweaking your computer programs to run more efficiently for when your gaming.
My sketchy alarm went off after watching this. Maybe they had good intentions, but if all it does is toggle in-game settings, installing this for it to end up taking system resources makes no sense. Great video!
The "game boost" does turn off unnecessary windows services while gaming but in my testing it didn't help and the overhead from running the Cortex program seemed worse for RAM. Although maybe lower end systems with not much ram and a cpu bottleneck could benefit, especially if they have a bunch of unnecessary junk installed that is running in the background.
@@danielowentech Maybe, but I have my doubts as I feel the resources this would take to run would negate any benefits. It would be nice to get a task manager / resources readout of this app.

I find some of the tools helpful like defrag and system clean, but overall it has gotten worse over time with the addition of pop up ads and "PlAy tO EaRn". I also have a theory that some of the performance problems on my new pc could be cause by the new P and E cores and maybe not working properly with the booster. Razer game booster used to not touch your in game settings and instead would flush Ram, and close down windows Explorer. It would kinda bring your PC closer to the OS overhead of a console, and like you said, was mainly good for PCs with an older CPU
I tried it on my Lenovo legion go and dropped my ram usage by 1GB which is great considering I have 16GB and 4GB is used by the APU. Upcoming BIOS will bring 6GB mode and the more free ram should be beneficial.

Unrelated to this software I'm not a big fan of Razer personally. I remember buying a gaming mmorpg mouse, a kraken headset and a black widow mechanical keyboard about 6 years ago. The mouse started having issues a little over a year after I bought it, the wires inside the cable were breaking internally so the mouse stopped working, the kraken headset broke where the speakers extend because of the crappy design and using weak plastic. I didn't have any issues with the keyboard. I vowed not to buy any of their peripherals. I've heard quite a few people have similar stories to mine.

Razer cortex... man... I just experienced this for myself and awful. Absolutely awful, it literally just crashed my pc performance for 30mins while I was trying to figure out what was going on.
The cpu usage is significant lower on RDR2 with cortex. I bet cpu temperature is lower too. Cortex may not give you more fps but can improve frametime and stutters on cpu bound scenarios since it closes running background process.

Somehow I've never actually owned any GTA game. So It's possibly that if I tried them I'd love them. That being said, open world games are very hit or miss for me. I finally gave Rockstar a shot with RDR2 and I was enjoying it during the opening when it was extremely story focused and pretty linear but once the world opened up I kind of lost interest. However it's definitely a game I plan on coming back to and giving another shot at some point. Definitely finishing RE Village and Metro first though.
@@danielowentech I'm loving RE Village ATM, but seriously Dan go give, when you get a chance between Math and You Tube + Family, RDR 2 a chance it's such a beautiful story buggy at first release but well fixed now!
When I adjust the vibrance of the game it literally stuck until I close the game and when I'm on desktop mode the vibrance is too high and I can't change it on razer cortex. But I think it's a bug.
i decided to give it a try since the comment section says it actually boosted their old shitty laptops but mine came in a different way. it drained 15-20fps on my 4 year old acer laptop. idk what i did wrong but i just instantly deleted it
I uninstalled it cause when I run my games on low to get better fps, It turned on DLSS and it put my graphics to high. My pc is an Rtx 3050ti soo I don't really need the app.
Really depends if you have a laptop or a pc. My friend has a pc and it slows it down, but my laptop would always crash when i tried to run sedulous and levels like that on geometry dash, and with it its smooth 60fps.
I get a solid 10 fps boost for my entry level gaming laptop in rdr2. My spec is Intel i5 12450H, Intel ARC A370M graphics card, 16gb ddr4 memory and 512gb ssd. My laptop is msi thin gf63 12hw.
I own a cheap razer mouse and keyboard, the mouse is good and it actually didn't break after 2 weeks like other mouses i owned, but the keyboard, razer corsa lite ( or something like that) is conpletely awful, can't press more than 2 keys at a time and the pressing feels bad, i still use it because i paid for it but when i play rythm games i still use the free asus keyboard i got from buying my pc back in 2017, so whoever reads this don't buy the lite keyboard from razer

man we need an fps time graph to check if the game is smoother or not ... cuz your fps and stuff will keep same.. it will try to reduce the micro stutters
ive been using razer cortex for a while and i can say if you have a really good pc i really dont think its gonna do a difference but if you have a much lower end pc it can maybe squeeze out a bit of fps
for me the software caused ac origins and odyssey not to launch also I couldn't stop the game when it wouldn't launched unless I use task manager so I deleted it.
I'm not sure why'd tried the razer cortex game booster on high end pc. You can't really feel improvement changed because the computer itself runs smooth already. It's literally answered for low end pc users would benefit from this problem.
There might be a way to feel more improvement using high end specs, virtual reality. The computer's basically processing 2 of the same game with each screen, so having cortex enabled might yield some performance boost. I've got H3VR modded to the brink using an RTX 2070 Super and 16 GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM, using it without cortex and it would actually crash SteamVR due to using too many resources... I was being RAM bottlenecked, and using cortex actually made it play and be more stable. Of course that's my take on it and I might be completely wrong, but yeah.
They always make it sound like these game boosters are gonna benefit everyone but that's really not the case, all these game boosters only really work on low end hardware, I'm talking low RAM, low end CPU, but especially RAM, if you're short on RAM then this will work magic for you, but once you've got like 16GB or more, depending on what game you're playing these boosters are not gonna benefit you one bit
They bloat these apps with to much BS if you ask me. It only takes more RAM then need, does NOT help in this context. Thanks for the great exploratory video :)
One reason I made this video is to try to displace all the overly positive videos trying to sell this as some kind of magical performance booster if you search it on RUclips. Let's hope my video helps put some realistic expectations out there.
so i can tell u right now yeah don't use it unless it's an old or a non gaming laptop ooor u need to use it. i have a pretty good lanovo laptop but for games like sword art online re hollow fragment it lags a tiny bit with settings at the lowest. but with it on it's legit completely fine. i also wanna say this is free so it's not like it's gonna be the best compared to something that isn't free so for it being a free thing it's pretty good for what it is. what i think this review should of done is take a look at something like a laptop or an old pc to compare the really good pc vs a not so good pc like laptop or old pc ect.
It depemds on whether you have a hih end or low end pc, do you have a high end? Then dont use cortex, waste of your time. If you have a low end or middle-class pc then use it, it doesnt help really good pcs but rather helps the lower end ones.
Every time Tap Out of a game i get a black Screen or my games disappear For quite a long time so i cant get in the game back and it was a horrible experience.
For me Razer Cortex consumes 10% of CPU all the time even when not gaming, And heated my CPU to 80ºC (Even on eco mode) even when doing nothing on my Ryzen 7 5800x. If gives worst fps so I'll not use it anymore.
for me, i have a really shitty cpu but a good gpu. it helped with minecraft so so so much, a very cpu (and ram) intensive game and there isnt really much you can do to mitigate that.
i was running the most amazing shaders cranking my gpu to the max and it was the best minecraft experience i had in a while. played 3 hours straight. before this, my chunks would not load without HUGE stutters. so razer cortex is a win for me!

I once got as a present a Razer headset and it was at that moment when they asked me to log in with my email just to download the driver to use their headset that I realised I want nothing to do with them. I gave the headset away first chance, it was bad in pretty much every way anyway. I knew they were overpriced and not the best quality but ever since I purposefully avoid their products, no matter in which form they come.
I was glad that with Cortex I could avoid creating a Razer account although it continually bugs me to do it. I think their main money maker on this product is trying to get you to make an account and sell you stuff, email you offers, etc
1:57 im here because it causes problems i just wanted to fix razer audio but razer has soo many products that i downloaded cortex by accident and it has ruined every game on my computer and makes my discord cut out edit: i am on an older computer and this is trash edit: adding things as i watch the video, i have hundreds of tabs already open and it still worsened computer performance (after installing cortex)

What a weak program it is . The original gamebooter actually make some sense by turn off the aero theme for the windows to save up some of the vram and gpu usage .

Good breakdown of what the app is doing. This is the type of information people should be paying attention to.
I have a rtx 3070 and 32gb ram is not a low gears spec pc but would it make a.little difference if I use razer cortex or not at all?
i decided to give it a try since the comment section says it actually boosted their old shitty laptops but mine came in a different way. it drained 15-20fps on my 4 year old acer laptop. idk what i did wrong but i just instantly deleted it
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70GHz (4CPUs), ~2.7GHz 8GB RAM should i use cortex booster?
My laptop is msi thin gf63 12hw.
super interesting and informative video!
u got a new subscriber!
Tried it on my old pc and it was the same fps as me playing the game regularly
I own a cheap razer mouse and keyboard, the mouse is good and it actually didn't break after 2 weeks like other mouses i owned, but the keyboard, razer corsa lite ( or something like that) is conpletely awful, can't press more than 2 keys at a time and the pressing feels bad, i still use it because i paid for it but when i play rythm games i still use the free asus keyboard i got from buying my pc back in 2017, so whoever reads this don't buy the lite keyboard from razer
I'm not at the end of the video yet, but this sounds like a program for people with computers that they treat like trash and just install anything and everything and never do any maintenance.
Can you go over the system booster in a video or comment if you think it’s actually worth it running a GTX 960m here….
This app is work for me I use to play terraria with 30 fps but now in 40-60 fps.Maybe thats not so much because yeah you know terraria graphic.I gonna try it on dota later.Hope to play it smooth
man we need an fps time graph to check if the game is smoother or not ... cuz your fps and stuff will keep same.. it will try to reduce the micro stutters
It is lifesaver on low end system but snake oil on capable systems. Talking from experience as a guy who experienced gaming on both kinds of systems.
ive been using razer cortex for a while and i can say if you have a really good pc i really dont think its gonna do a difference but if you have a much lower end pc it can maybe squeeze out a bit of fps
for me the software caused ac origins and odyssey not to launch also I couldn't stop the game when it wouldn't launched unless I use task manager so I deleted it.
I only use it for turning my power plan to high performance since we windows constantly changes it back to balanced.
Thanks for the great exploratory video :)
why does nothing work anymore? are they ever going to fix this broken pos...
Yup. Cortex ended up being extremely annoying and useless for the brief time I had it.
One reason I made this video is to try to displace all the overly positive videos trying to sell this as some kind of magical performance booster if you search it on RUclips. Let's hope my video helps put some realistic expectations out there.
I cant get cotex or synapse to work. WHen I try to open synapse, nothing opens, and I keep getting a clear screen when I try to open cortex.
you don't like Raytracing? I get 90fps with Raytracing with my 3080
this app helped me in fortnite from 70 fps to 144 cap
Nah fr tho this app seriously boost my performance in Valorant from 120-190
so i can tell u right now yeah don't use it unless it's an old or a non gaming laptop ooor u need to use it. i have a pretty good lanovo laptop but for games like sword art online re hollow fragment it lags a tiny bit with settings at the lowest. but with it on it's legit completely fine. i also wanna say this is free so it's not like it's gonna be the best compared to something that isn't free so for it being a free thing it's pretty good for what it is. what i think this review should of done is take a look at something like a laptop or an old pc to compare the really good pc vs a not so good pc like laptop or old pc ect.
Why is the program crashing my games saying they’re “running higher than cap fps” and quitting my games in the middle of playing
Well it freezed my pc and crashed my graphic driver
Surprisingly the boost works well
nothing beats old school task manager
It depemds on whether you have a hih end or low end pc, do you have a high end? Then dont use cortex, waste of your time. If you have a low end or middle-class pc then use it, it doesnt help really good pcs but rather helps the lower end ones.
So would This be helpful with a CPU that is amd fx 8350 and a CPU that is a Nvidia rtx 2060
On mine it can free as much as 600 mb of ram and I guess it makes a difference in my low end PC I see slight improvement.
I installed it to optimize fortnite it was 150 fps now im getting 340 fps but after i close the game it opens everything every app gets opened
Every time Tap Out of a game i get a black Screen or my games disappear For quite a long time so i cant get in the game back and it was a horrible experience.
What about competitive online game?
I want to shut it down how will i do it step by step it lowered my hunt showdown FPS very much around 20 how will i complete reset it any help
yo bro im scared if i use it it is gonna harm my pc
No as long as you don't play overnight and let your pc cool all is good to go
For me Razer Cortex consumes 10% of CPU all the time even when not gaming, And heated my CPU to 80ºC (Even on eco mode) even when doing nothing on my Ryzen 7 5800x. If gives worst fps so I'll not use it anymore.
How will i reset it back any idea
Thanks
for me, i have a really shitty cpu but a good gpu. it helped with minecraft so so so much, a very cpu (and ram) intensive game and there isnt really much you can do to mitigate that.
i was running the most amazing shaders cranking my gpu to the max and it was the best minecraft experience i had in a while. played 3 hours straight. before this, my chunks would not load without HUGE stutters. so razer cortex is a win for me!
I got this and fps went as Low as 02 fps, screen froze abt 0.5 secs every 30seconds or so while playing league of legends and my pc is a new legion 5 ryzen 5 5600h, 16gb ram, rtx 3060 gddr6gb
At Nvidia Gtx 1650 Super and Intel core i5 9400f it get the same fps when its on or off
What to do if I did lose 200 fps? beacuse I used it I went from 900 to 600
I was going to use Razer Cortex but when i watched this i stared using Nvidia geforce now
with it ON it has significant less overheat
Who is that one person who disliked
Maybe a Razer dev? Lol
honestly i hate it cortex burnt out my LEDs for no reason
1:57 im here because it causes problems i just wanted to fix razer audio but razer has soo many products that i downloaded cortex by accident and it has ruined every game on my computer and makes my discord cut out
edit: i am on an older computer and this is trash
edit: adding things as i watch the video, i have hundreds of tabs already open and it still worsened computer performance (after installing cortex)
Personally when i had this app it was eating 30% of my cpu
Me playing 4k and 3440 ultrawide on my 2060 super just fine with cortex.
But it's working in my core i5 4400 3.00GHz clock speed internal graphics memory 2999gb
Razer Cortex sometimes decreases my roblox fps and sometimes does increase fps
Ok I used to get 60 fps in valorant
After this I got 210 fps suddenly
CPU temp went upto 80 degrees
And laptop was super hot
I have an i3
This actually crashed my computer every time it was enabled
I like your yu pfp
It works in some games
There are many features that were not shown in this video..... This seems like a very bias, narrative type review of razor cortex
Nvidia experience………..
I accidentally download ndvidia physx by downloading pirated sniper elite 3 and it boost my fps and im trying to download another one and razor cortex is my go and btw without ndvida physx arma 2 demo was so laggy but with ndvidia physx it boost my graphics was high arma 3 run not thay good but good to run 27 to 35 fps
This randomly got removed from my pc ..
Cortex?
Crashes my desktop on startup. Win 11 pro
as soon as i downloaded razer cortex i lagged like a mf idk if that was just me
What a weak program it is . The original gamebooter actually make some sense by turn off the aero theme for the windows to save up some of the vram and gpu usage .
It decreased my fps in apex too
whey do it even exist
Ngl I need all the fps I can get I play Fortnite at 25-60 fps on McDonald’s Wi-Fi please help
Good to know a realistic video is here as I feel great that I didn't waste my time with this razor game tarded mode shit.
I remember when i used it once on laptop and it's creates for me blue screen 🤣
Cortex caused mayhem on my pc with assetto corsa. Major stutters and crashes. Uninstall it and all was perfect again. 3090 and i9 12900k, 32gb ddr5 ram. Trash software.
