    Thanks! If you then copy the values using the recode into another variable the values don't change when resorting etc anymore.
    COMPUTE ID1 = $CASENUM + 1000.
    EXECUTE.
    RECODE ID1 (ELSE=Copy) INTO ID2.
    EXECUTE.

    What do I do if I need to create a large amount of cases for example more than 100 or more than 1000? Is there a way to do this without entering each case manually?
