I’ve owned this lens with the fx30 and I absolutely loved it. I owned the sigma 18-50 also and even though that lens is sharper. I find that the fx30 sensor is so sharp that it still looks tack sharp with the 18-105.
This lens is such a Swiss Army knife. Especially if you’re shooting events and action. Even though it’s f4 on apsc you still get lots of bokeh on the telephoto long end.
Low light is the only place where this lens struggles. But in that case one can easily augment this lens with the viltrox 23mm 1.4 or Sirui Sniper 23mm 1.2 for less than $300.

I LOVED the sentiment on pushing the FX30 to 6400 iso. Its given me the confidence to push into that higher space for shoots going forward! I appreciate the upload! Thank you for the good content!

You definitely lose some dynamic range going that high. But not so much where there footage is unusable . So long as you stay in the higher quality codecs .

I completely agree with this. It is 2024 (2022 for the FX30) and APSC cameras nowadays aren’t how they were back then so pushing that ISO up is just as capable as it was on full frame. I got this mindset because I also had the A7iii and I’ve pushed that camera’s iso to 12800 and still came out with a pretty clean image.

Great content! Too bad they haven't made a power zoom version of the 24 to 105 and a compact form like this only a little bigger. Do you have tips for settings for wanting to use this lens and A7IV? Thanks!

If you wanting to use it on a full camera best advice is use APSC mode and NEVER take photos with . The lens was mainly made for video in my opinion. You lose too many MPs from a Photography prospective . For Video it’s absolutely A1 in 90% of situations. Thank you for the Comment . Happy Shooting

Dude I love this lens . Even with the F4 limitations the fact that I can a wide range with out the aperture changing is super clutch. At least until I can get my hands on a 70-200

@@DavinciHD_ right. I thought the f4 was going to suck but it’s actually not that bad especially if you do a lot of your filming during the day. I have some fast sigma primes but can’t shoot those wide open during the day even with a nd filter without having to crank the shutter.
