Rich Dad Poor Dad has led me through the best internet rabbit hole I’ve ever stumbled across. I read it last week & now with videos like yours, I have so many ideas and new goals.
The teenagers and young 20 year olds that watch this are going to be in a winning position when they get older. There really wasn't anything like this around when I was 18 if you grew up around poor ppl you were just going to have the same mindset about money as them.
Hopefully, but probably not for most. Most people are pretty intelligent, but intelligence means nothing at all when your decisions are made by emotions and impulses. Western society is built around consumerism, debt, expensive trips, and buying expensive things is so normalized, people feel like everyone around them is doing it, so they deserve these things too. It's almost like an illness, and a few RUclips videos unfortunately probably wont change someone's mentality. Hopefully it helps some, though.
Great tips for young adults. I will share my experience when going to college & living with my father. I still had to get a job and contribute financially. Not because my dad needed the money, but because he said it creates that sense of responsibility within me. Also helped with chores around the house.
Great advice to start young and invest in your financial well-being as early as possible. My family talked openly about finances to plan for college and it helped a lot as we paid off a HUGE student loan bill from graduate schools.
For sure! My parents gave me a bit of a financial education before I started university and it helped me out SO much over the years! Made it possible to start getting ahead early and I'll always be grateful for that information.
Look at Ivy League schools if you are from a low-income family and have the grades + extracurriculars. They have very generous scholarships (sometimes can be a full ride) and good student loan repayment assistance that supplements any government repayment program. Also, some brands/cars depreciate less than others. As with everything, do your own research.
Get a job AND a side hustle. Not sure I've heard that given as advice to young people before. It certainly should be. Jobs change and sometimes go away. Job markets get tight. An ongoing side hustle can, at the least, keep cash coming in when you need it most. It can even turn into something more, as it has for many. Unlike an emergency fund, it won't run out after 3 to 6 months. Great advice!
It's so important to start young! I wish we learned this stuff before we graduated. Just the basics, but imagine how much different the world would be with better financial literacy!
Just watched your video, why did you left your job that's really really important for me I'm so thankful that you provided me this insight. Now this , just pure gold, just turned 21 last week. This I what I wanted right now.
Now we need a video for 53 year old spend thrifts who are tired of their irresponsible selves. I have been binging your videos. So appreciative for these.
Instead of college try apprenticeships, vocational training, trade schools, internships, government programs, etc. It's better to have hands-on or professional experience.
I totally agree with you Erika, I also did not learn anything about finance in school but I decided to learn financial literacy myself. I also moved out of my home right after high school and was forced to learn to be independent and be good with money. Now, after years of trying to figure things out for myself financially and making mistakes along the way, I am able to live very comfortably and have continued to buy assets and build my portfolio
There are so many HIGHLY PRACTICAL TIPS one after another!! Thank you Erika! I couldn't agree more that higher education is not for everyone. I think this is true now more than ever. As someone who has many degrees from top schools, many of my peers that I graduated with are sill struggling to make it financially because of heavy student loan debt; while my friends who started their own businesses or TAUGHT THEMSELVES trade skills are now in a much better financial situation. I believe there is a lot of truth to Elon Musk's words when he said "college is basically for fun and not for learning."
Best book I ever read on buying a car: "Don't Get Taken Every Time: The Ultimate Guide to Buying (new / used) or Leasing a Car, in the Showroom or on the Internet," by Remar Sutton. Through six editions, this invaluable tool by Public Enemy #1 of the car dealers? (The Washington Post) has remained the definitive guide on buying or leasing a new or used vehicle. Completely updated, "Don't Get Taken Every Time" takes readers inside the world of the auto business itself. It exposes hundreds of tricks some dealers use to separate unwary customers from their money. Sutton alerts people to dealer scams on the Internet, tampering with credit ratings, and more. From negotiating to financing, the step-by-step techniques offered here make any car shopper a savvy purchaser. Enjoy!
I have never understood why basic accounting (essentially just understanding financial statements and cash flow concepts) and an introduction to finance are not part of a core curriculum for college in the United States. It would make it much easier for people to make informed investment decisions.
Great Tips for the Youth Also!! I wish I hadn't spent Soo much on clothes, shoes, Rims, Grills and other things just to be seen. The Earlier the Youth realize it's not about impressing others the more Money they will have in their pockets. Great Video Erika!!
I’m setting up my niece with Roth IRA to match her contribution and actively teach her financial literacy. If my own parents had taught me this, I might not have ended up in bankruptcy.
yes ericka, what is new is not necessarily better, that is an illusion; sometimes it is instead the older, not the new. how was your trip leaving japan? is that a real lemon tree in the backround? and also keeping up with joneses is also not better. and your point about whether you need it? half of the time you don't at all. you just are living under an illusion that you do, but really you don't need half of what you have. and it looks like you've gotten rid of a lot of stuff you don't need too. good for you. and yes indeed the world is very fragile and unpredictable, that is nothing new under the sun either. you are one smart cookie, erika. hope your new place to live you like. You have a lot of interesting points, thanks for sharing with the world. and your point about new cars? don't necessarily agree with you on that one, cause you have to admit a new car is different than a used one. Siyonara. tom o'connor :)
Awesome video ERIKA. How is Barcelona treating you? Always a pleasure seeing you. Thanks for sharing. Keep the incredible content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend. Much love
Hello. I was trying to find a video where you talked about how to deal with medical emergency bills.. Questions. Within how long after been at the emergency room the hospital start reporting to the credit bureau? To avoid late payments ..Thanks for your content.
@Eřîka kúllbêřg-------RUclips• • subbed a few months back and has been sharing your videos to my children who are about your age and to my relatives as well. Take care always and more power to you. If possible, can you make a video on life insurance policies? What's your thoughts on the subject. Thank you.
Woah woah woah, this is offensive to American culture. We need to consume consume consume to feed corporations profits. If not, the poor things will starve. Lol
Hey Erika love the article on you in business insider. I all ready knew most of it from following you here but did learn some new stuff. Your definitely a beautiful interesting woman so it makes it a great read. I have always wanted to start my own channel and I checked out the site with all 15 segments 90plus lessons and it’s something I think I need to just take the plunge and go for it. Like you I would be uncomfortable but would get thru it once I can learn the ins and outs. Also why don’t you have a Twitter listed on your social stuff???
Hi Travis! My Twitter is erikakullberg but I don’t really use it. RUclips is amazing-if you want to start a channel, I highly encourage you to! Stay consistent and have fun :)
Ok thanks I just figured you would use it as part of your channels promotion. I’ll def follow you there and your other socials and I think I will start my own but honestly wanna go thru what you offer before so I do it right and don’t have to go back and fix or change anything I might have done wrong. Just want to be able to hit the ground running.
Can I ask you something? Will all this school and work you've done and do...have you had any fun in life? In Econ class my professor said with "with every you're giving up something" with all this schooling and work what have u given up?
but isn't the 'network with people more successful than you' and 'don't be the smartest person in the room' contradictory? If the successful people also take your advice, why would they talk to someone "lesser" than them... In real life, there's zero to none utility for more successful people to talk to lesser ones and they just won't respond ... (which is the norm when you just cold handedly message someone on linkedin for a 'coffee chat')
Be carful what your read... cause it like if I eat at Mcdonald every day... it will make me gain weight and be unhealthy... Books are the same way.. You brain will be unhealthy in investing... My first book I would recommend is called "the richest man in Babylon". The first edition came out in 1926.....

The things I've done in my twenties set me up for my thirties.
I'm so happy I was frugal and invested

I did this too. Then saved the $ and gave it to them when they were starting out on their own. They didn’t know I was doing it and were very grateful.

The Roth suggestion is right on. Not many even know about it.
Good job.

I learned how to think analytically and historically in college. I also learned how to learn. These are important lifelong skills.
Absolutely :)
Humans have learned and still learn to think analytically and historically outside of college.
Could you do a video where you go more in depth about pros and cons of credit cards? Trying to find which one to open has been rough!

a high credit score is a huge mistake everywhere. the best credit score is zero because you never borrow money
