My husband grandmother made mashed potato candy. She would mix the potato and powdered sugar and roll out like dough cover with peanut butter and roll up and slice. People wouldn’t believe it was made with mash potatoes.
Here in Windsor Ontario Canada we grew up on potato candy at Christmas time. It was back in the 60s and things were different but he still bring back memories
Never got round to that in the end. My gutters leaked and flooded the kitchen so I spent the rest of the day trying to find a builder. Then I went to the pub for a coffee and there on the saucer was a macaroon! To anyone listening I said ‘oh Karen showed us how to make them! I got out my mobile and showed the whole of Surrey your video. You do get around!!!!

My mum used to make Tablet....as a kid it was amazing, now it's too sickly sweet! Other favourites from our Scottish heritage were Stovies, Butteries and my grannie swore by tins of mince and onion.....with a tin of potatoes. One year staying at her house whilst on holiday my sister's and I demanded curry. So granny got a tin of mince and onion and put a tablespoon of curry powder in it, served with the tatties and a "here's ya curry" . Loved her sense of humour and resourcefulness!
I think I'd be trying that with a little bit of peppermint oil in it because the look of it reminds me of the 'After dinner mint' centres. Hmmmm, nice.

Potato in macaroons is something I've not heard of before. I would love to try them though I am scared of that amount of sugar plus the chocolate I know the science of that mix, the sugar draws out the water from the potato. The water helps to rehydrate the coconut and the potato starch help bind and give structure to macaroni. I have only used egg whites, coconut and a small of icing sugar in mine. Sometimes I dip the base of the macaroon in chocolate.
Ah that's coconut macaroons which are a different thing completely from a macaroon bar. The bar is kind of a like a firm sugar fondant covered in chocolate and just dipped in coconut, it's not made with coconut in the bar itself.

We need to re kindle these things which can be made at home as we can try to become more independent from places . . . .. love looking at homesteader preppers with their big buckets of flour and sugar etc - looks like other nations are more set up for bulk purchases than here - unless some of the cost co 's etc sell in bulk - see some people store wheat ? berries ? grains? and mill their own flour - apparently stores longer than ground flour? I got a tip from one lady - to put bags of shop bought flour into the freezer for a week to kill any weevil eggs and to carefully bring back to room / cool room temp for longer term storage - did the freezing bit - haven't done the baking bit yet !
For my mom’s recipe she used to use 1 medium potato 3 1/2 cups of icing sugar 1 1/2 cups of shredded coconut a teaspoon of vanilla if it was on hand then she would melt unsweetened chocolate and roll the balls in the unsweetened chocolate.

I really enjoyed watching you cook. I tried to make biscuits today with a packet mix . On the packet it said add 33mls of water . I poured 83mls in by mistake . I added some raisins and made sort of rock cakes/scones! They taste all right! I used to make meringues in the microwave. You mix icing sugar into one egg white until it resembles a stiff dough . It takes a lot of icing sugar! You then roll into small balls not much bigger than a marble and space them out on a plate. Microwave for about 20 seconds and they grow into little meringues. You have to watch them though as they can burn very quickly . You can dip them in chocolate. The meringues keep for ages in a tin. We used to use them in ice cream sundaes.
You should make Kentish gypsy tart, the amount of brown sugar going in is about 3/4 a bag.. only those with a raging sweet tooth like it. Your recipe is stiff competition to that. I like it hat you don't have to use much heating
